NHLP Cup Threat Ratings For 2010/11(Updated For 30 Games, 37% (Percent) of the Season and Transaction 35)

The NHLP has always came out with the Cup Threat Rating (CTR).  The CTR is also known as the Power Rankings in the NHLP.  It is a time perfected, skill based, best prediction of what teams are the best and what teams have the best chance of winning it all.  It has been very accurate over the years, however 2009/10 wasn't exactly bang on.  It is true that the CTR holds strongest when upsets do not occur in the playoffs and Philadelphia being a low seed and making the finals did effect the CTR last year.  Cleveland (Tyson) was the CTR #13 ranked team.  However in 2008/09, the CTR predicted Las Vegas and Dallas as being the two best NHLP teams and of course Dallas beat Las Vegas in the NHLP finals.  The CTR Nailed Florida in 2007/08 as NHLP winners and many other winners over the years.  The CTR really does work.  It isn't a perfect science, but it is not a guess either.  If you are near the top, you have a good team and a better shot at winning, near the bottom, a bad team with little hope as is.  The nice thing is you have the power to change your teams position at any time.  This will be on-going and ever changing all year.  How it works - Teams will move up and down based on their Transactions, NHLP Standings (Points back or points to give), Players Points,  Depth Charts, PP Time on the ice and mainly the NHL standings.  You may not like the teams seeded 1st in each Conference to win it all, but the CTR does not go by gut feelings, only 100% statistics.  It holds truest when there are no upsets (but when is that?).  This is the NHLP Power Rankings.

(Division)
Notes
1 1715 (H1 - 2115, L10 - 1004) Shawn

(East)
Only 10 points clear of 5th, even though first in the East Division.  GM Shawn doesn't need a lot of points for improvement as this team is stocked with Backes the lowest seeded playoff player, but still seeded.  Boston has moved back up seeds and Shawn is carrying three Bruins.  There is simply nothing not to love about Halifax and they are giving away their stock load of Waivers for the future as well.  (“I’m coming to get YOU!” - Rambo)
2 1559 (L13 - 771) Michael & Ray

(West)
Gotta love Datsyuk!  If Crosby is the NHLP's league MVP, Datsyuk is likely a close second.  Two Wings here for the co-GM's.  A valuable low number in Kadri to unload Bourque when the time is right.  Has 30 points to move in a deal, so these Jet's have our attention in a big, big way.  (“Ladies and Gentlemen, this is your captain speaking. I have the only gun on board. Welcome to Con Air.” - Con Air)
3 1526 (L15 - 784) Shawn

(South)
What can you say about GM Shawn's season?  Richard's continues to do magic here.  Will he get dealt?  Odds are unlikely if Dallas continues to play this good.  He is an UFA and will be the cream of next seasons crop.  Everyone here but Iggy is rated, the teams hottest guy.  Iginla seems a perfect pick up for a team that is out who needs scoring if they can eat him or unload him later.  There is even hope he gets dealt, but with two full season at 7 million is that a reason to trade for him or not to trade for him if you are another NHL GM?  (“I’m your Huckleberry.” - Tombstone)
4 1405 (H5 - 1418, L15 - 703)  Joel

(West)
The Nuck's are now 47 points up on 5th, carrying Stewart who hasn't played all month.  The team can and is scoring like crazy with 7 playoff players.  Getzlaf is the low seed here, in on faith only, so GM Joel may be looking at trading Getzlaf and some points to improve the CTR and his Cup chances.  Need points, look no further!  ("When the phone ain't ringing, that's me not calling." - Lost and Found)
5 1385 (L19 - 651) Charlie

(South)
Still 29 points up on 5th even though the scoring has slowed down.  Havlat and Myers continue to be 37 points of dead weight, so expect something at some point with all this position.  A really strong Red Wings mix with Zetterberg who is great and Bertuzzi, although maybe slowing, still worth a pretty penny on the black market.  This team is solid.  (“Keep your friends close, but your enemies closer” - The Godfather)
6 1379 (H3 - 1454, L24 - 315) Chad

(East)
Letang may have been the best Waiver pick up this season as the Penguins are flying with a 12 game winning streak.  Crosby is once again the NHLP's golden boy, clearly our leagues most valuable asset and GM Chad is still second place in the East, without Staal playing a game this season.  Staal seems to be having a lot of difficulty still, but at some point Chad is going to have 3 Pens on his mirror team.  007-11 has a nice ring to it!  ("Say hello to my little friend" - Scareface)
7 1294 (H9 - 1304, L24 - 67) Tyson

(South)
Has settled in to a good team in St Louis.  Currently some fringe players, but 7 are rated and the position is great at 21 up on 5th.  The team is hot.  Hell, even when a player (Raymond) breaks a bone on this team he is still only day to day! (“At my signal, unleash hell” - Gladiator)
8 1147 (H2 - 1655, L12 - 971) Andrew

(North)
Hossa has really hurt the teams scoring and GM Andrew finds himself fallen to 5th, some 6 points out.  A well balanced attack with 6 playoff players, not all is lost.  The two Flyers remain building blocks.  Kovalev is a movable part of Ottawa's as Andrew is fully aware.  Already taking the heat for the teams struggles, Kovalew will likely be dealt as he is an UFA, but with is scoring woes, he will be hard to keep that long.  Andrew has decisions to make as this team free falls in the North.  (“Ye’d best start believin’ in ghost stories, Miss Turner. Yer in one” - Pirates of the Caribbean)
9 1061 (L20 - 470) Matt

(North)
Boston has moved up seeds and Savard has finally got himself a point, chipping in the new season high CTR for GM Matt's Nords.  Outside of Boston, all players are fringe at best and Tanguay's 24 points cannot be replaced in the minors without taking some loss.  Perry could be a much bigger headache here as Anaheim has a CTR 36 points, having them tied for 10th and 11th seeds in the West with Chicago.  That is a bad, bad thing here.  There is 24 points to work with, so that is a great thing, but this team has a lot of potential to either fall or rise in the CTR, mostly depending on Matt's future decisions.  (“It’s Alive! It’s Alive!” - Frankenstein)
10 1056 (H4 -1502) Charlie

(East)
Everyone knew this team could not score with the rest of the East Division, but that was ok, Ovechkin can keep GM Charlie close.  Well when Ovechkin slumps, this team pays the price.  Dropping to a season low 21 points out of 4th the assets here are as important as ever.  OV's stock isn't rising with the Caps fall in the NHL seeding.  It is going to take Charlie's best work ever to get this team back in and remain somewhat strong.  the top teams in the East aren't coming back because they can't, not with 1st to 5th only 10 points.  Movement up top is unlikely, so Charlie will need to do the gaining.  If he got aggressive with some waivers, he might be able to keep assets.  As is, everyone is eyeing the top prize.  (“Never take your eyes off of your opponent…even when you bow.” - Enter The Dragon)
11   985 (H6 - 1337, L16 - 606) Joel

(North)
A well balanced scoring team with decent position still.  What hurts the rating continues to be the Sharks so-so play.  Seeded tied for 8th, the Sharks must be better for GM Joel to climb the CTR.  If the Sharks dropped out than Joel will have three non playoffs totaling 77 points.  Parse's replacement comes this week and that low number may be needed.  Joel has such a strong Shark's team, the NHLP's best, he will likely ride them as long as he can.  Should they be ok, ya, they should, but with 60% of the season to play their real value is for true believers only. (“Your ego is writing checks your body can’t cash” - Top Gun)
12 984 (H1 - 1648, L12 - 834) Matt

(South)
With Langenbrunner an UFA will the Devils trade him or not?  GM Matt likely don't care either way as the number is a perfect low number.  Horcoff's injury hurts the scoring and this is a perfect team to make some moves with a scheduled waiver before the Winter Meeting.  Your first though when Fleischmann gets traded from Washington to Colorado is that is stock just dropped.  Then he gets 7 points in three games.  The last 5 games Washington has 7 goals (including 4 in one loss to Toronto) and in that same span, Flash's new team...22 goals!  I think it is going to be OK!  (“I’ll make him an offer he can’t refuse” - The Godfahter)
13 918 (H11 - 1123, L12 - 876) Scott

(East)
GM Scott has taken the first step to rehabilitation by admitting he does have a trading problem.  Many GM's have came forward to support GM Scott while he gets help for this disease.  Scott said in an interview that he gets a 'high' off making transactions and that he'd drop someone today and add him tomorrow for the satisfaction of knowing he made a move.  "I'd spend my last dollar for that high.  Trading is an addiction and I am working through it.  Talking to GM's Ryan, Charlie, Mike and Ray have helped" stated Scott, "Seeing how they go through the season without doing anything at all, has made me see it is possible to succeed in this league with the Draft and see ya approach."  Scott then added, "Maybe succeed was a bad choice of words." (“We all go a little mad sometimes” - Psycho)
14 900 (895, L23 - 425) Jr

(West)
The Waiver is the NHLP's next one and GM will likely use it to move Jokinen who has been below average.  Frolov and Eberle may have to help with the numbers.  Green has dropped seeds, even though Jr has a new season's high mark.  Little has been big of late and Briere...well what isn't there to love about Danny Boy!  ("Do I feel lucky.  Well, do ya, punk?" - Dirty Harry)
15 879 (H13 - 951, L20 - 456) Scott

(West)
GM Scott actually went the right way up the charts for a change.  Is hanging in there while Huselius and Propsal get healthy, likely both in after Christmas for sure.  Has 3 players totaling 10 points, so you know deals here are only an email away.  (“Are you not entertained?” - Gladiator)
16 842 (H3 - 1600) Michael & Ray

(North)
Another CTR season low.  Stamkos has fallen likely as low as he can in the NHL Seeding, as the East Conference appears almost set in top 8 and bottom 7, depending on seeds.  Three high scoring non playoff players totaling 65 points and only 13 up on 5th spell disaster.  This team will need a major shake up at some point, a huge Waiver or Minors deal or a number of trades.  The longer this team remains as is, the harder improvement will be.  Expect a splash before or during the Winter Meeting. (“Destiny’s a pretty big concept, when you think about it. Where you are in life, how you got there, what would have happened if one thing or another had been different” - Mr. Destiny)
17 833 (H5 - 1446) Ryan

(East)
The CTR drop continued all the way to a season low.  Semin's stock fell as did that of Nash.  Only 10 out of 1st place in the East but 4 players either out or fringe, so the assets have diminished. (“You can do anything if you’re not afraid” - Daredevil)
18 809 (L18 - 534)  Andrew

(West - Pacific)
Here is a team that has fallen to the furthest they have been out all season.  Has scored a league low 14 points through the first 14 days of December.  Has been riddled with injuries in Selanne, Hemsky, Malkin and Setoguchi and still....still...STILL hits a season high CTR.  Rolston is the perfect low number for Hemsky, so moving an asset makes a nice 3-3 Waiver.  Malkin has been slow but the Penguins are all like opening a pack of hockey cards and getting a rookie.  It is all good, considering! (Say what again!” - Pulp Fiction)
19 775 (H2 - 1365, L22 - 333) Chad

(North)
GM Chad has work to do with 61 non playoff points from three players.  Many NHLP teams are facing eating a non playoff player and Chad's Leafs are as high on that list as any.  Work will be needed to change things to 7 playoff players, things that can be easily done in this seasons NHLP, but the longer you wait the more competition you may get, as others are in the same boat.  Only 6 points up on 4th, Chad can't be throwing away points.  Shattenkirk was an awesome addition. (“Fasten your seatbelts. It’s going to be a bumpy night” - All About Eve)
20  771 (H7 - 1294)   Marcel

(South)
More lows for just an all around low season for GM Marcel.  He has Kopitar and Smyth hear to build around by keeping or trading and several low numbers.  He has hung onto Perron even though Perron's recovery might be best described as "not occurring".  This team can make a big splash with a Waiver at any time, so pay attention here.  (“What we have here is a failure to communicate” - Cool Hand Luke)
21 722 (H9 - 1209, L20 - 540) Tyson

(East)
The defending Champs are doing all they can to stay in the playoffs in the East.  Only 9 out of first, but a single assist up on 5th place.  Washington has hit the skids in a big way and Backstrom's CTR value has dropped.  At 25 points, Koivu is looking like he will have to be a 2-2 to the minors at some point.  Doughty has picked his game up, but this team isn't in the same class as most of the East Division.  (“Play it again, Sam” - Casablanca)
22 315 (H3 - 1207, L24 - 159) Jr

(South)
Has two players with a combined 1 point, so can easily take on the leagues worst bucket of shit and go to the minors.  That will likely have to be the case as GM Jr is 15 out here in the South.  Although a lot of fringe players, only Spezza is unrated.  Have a high playoff guy?  This is a good place to go shopping.  (“It’s only after we’ve lost everything that we’re free to do anything.” - Fight Club)
23 217 (H16 - 870, L24 - 169) Ryan

(West)
Well they ain't last in the CTR anymore.  Bobby Ryan has proven he is good enough to score with a wrong-handed stick.  Can another Ryan prove he is good enough to score with a bucket of shit? (“I have always depended on the kindness of strangers” - A Streetcar Named Desire)
24 181 (H22 - 502) Marcel

(North)
14 to 30 to 43 to 54.

That is how many points GM Marcel's Habs were out 15 games ago, than 10, than 5 games ago and now at the 30 game mark.  Still nothing from Marcel.  Assets include Cammalleri and Pronger who total 35 points.  Even squeezing 15 points (something Marcel already turned down for them) leaves him 39 out.  Then a couple 7-7 drops, with some major point gains, can it be done?  Not GM Marcel's style maybe but what is the other option?  ("Skin that smoke wagon and see what happens, Are you gonna do something or just stand there and bleed?" - Tombstone.

The NHLP has always came out with the Cup Threat Rating (CTR) a couple times a year.  The CTR is also known as the Power Rankings in the NHLP.  It is a time perfected, skill based, best prediction of what teams are the best and what teams have the best chance of winning it all.  It is very accurate.  Like last year it predicted Las Vegas and Dallas as being the two best NHLP teams and of course Dallas beat Las Vegas in the NHLP finals.  Nailing Florida the year before as NHLP winners and many winners over the years.  The CTR really does work.  It isn't a perfect science, but it is not a guess either.  If you are near the top, you have a good team and a shot at winning, near the bottom, a bad team with little hope as is.

Notes -

Position refers to your NHLP standings.  Good position means you have points to give and potential to improve your playoff players on your team.

Position is ranked into the statistical formula above for the rankings, however, Position disappears from the ranking in the very end when the playoffs are decided and we predict the final cup favorites.  It might mean something now to have 50 points to give, so now we give you potential points so to speak.  If you do nothing with them, in the end, your standings and your 50 points mean nothing.

Fringe refers to your playoff players are near 6,7 and 8 spots, not great for the CTR, but still better than non playoffs which are useless.
