Highlights for 2011/12
2011/12 Playoff Highlights
---
One Big Day - It Can Happen
We only see a dozen or so 10+ point nights a NHLP
season, but not always are there 15 games being played with perfect
conditions to see huge nights. "Last night was a really low
scoring night" said Muddy Capone, "For 14 games only 3 NHLP teams scored
more than 5 and 7 was the high, while 17 NHLP teams scored 2 or less on
the night." That can change Saturday!!! Races for the final
NHLP spots are not as close as races for all other seeds, but at 7 and 8
points, someone could get the shock of their lives on Saturday, where
some games will be like the All-Star game, little hitting while others
will be playoff hockey as usual. "The problem is all NHLP teams
are playing everyone" Capone explains, "So if you need to gain 8, that
is without the other team scoring any, if they get 4, you need 12, and
GM Chad for instance is in his 14th season and has never had a 12 point
night, ever." OK, so it will be tough to pull off a miracle, but
with top players resting, injuries, 15 games, meaningless games, back up
goalies, the setting has never been more right. In the West,
Colorado (Chad) is 7 behind Edmonton (Scott), but the Oil have the
tie-Breaker, while the East, the 9th place team, NY Islanders (Ryan) is
a true 8 back. Miami (Charlie) in the Central is a true 9 back.
---
Matchups Key To Winning Team
After today's games we will know who is playing who in the NHLP first
rounds and the NHL first rounds, something that will be very key for the
eventual 2012 NHLP Champion. Every year GM's get bad personal
matchups where because NHL teams meet, players will automatically be
lost heading into round two, but maybe worse still is the NHLP matchup.
"Strong teams often lose out in the first round" Muddy Capone explains,
" So all GM's want to see strong teams play head to head, knowing one
will be gone early." It is these matchups and upsets that allow
some teams that would not have been look upon, or CTR rated high, to
sneak through. Everything has to go perfectly in a GM's favor over
the next 60 days to win and much of that ground work is laid out today,
setting the stage for favorites to be out early wondering that went
wrong while the eventual winner will look back and say, "That was huge
for me".
---
Three NHLP Teams 5 or Less
While the Central has 8 playoff teams with all 7 players except Ottawa
(M&R), who will have 6 after losing Erikson (Dal), the other two
NHLP Conferences will have some weaker first round teams. Hardest hit
was the Calgary Flames (Jr) who will only have 3 playoff players after
losing his four Sabres, but Memphis (Jr) and Vancouver (Joel) will only
go into the playoffs with 5 players after both taking a two player hit.
"A 5 player team can be competitive but likely will lose 8 of 10 times"
said Muddy Capone, "But a three man team will give a team a free pass in
the very crucial first round where often top NHLP teams get beat out."
That lucky team in the West to play Calgary will be Alaska CTR #7
(Marcel) or St Louis CTR #8 (Tyson), two very good teams, while the
other will face Edmonton CTR #3 (Scott), as long as the Oil can get a
playoff spot on Saturday.
---
Swimming With the Sharks
GM's Shawn and Joel never did waver on their Sharks and with a
win tonight by San Jose in Los Angeles, the Sharks will be in the NHL
playoffs, maybe even the third seed in the West. Both GM's have
two Sharks each, Shawn, Thornton and Boyle in Halifax and Joel's Canes,
Pavelski and Couture. Both teams are much stronger with these guys
in the playoffs and both could be easy targets without. "It is a
big night" said GM Shawn, "But beating Dallas twice in a row was likely
bigger." San Jose is up three points, so cannot be out tonight and
really needs nothing more than another Dallas loss, tonight in
Nashville, to a Preds team that wants home ice in the playoffs, so will
be playing tough. Things are looking up for the two GM's who never gave
up and now are banking on a long playoff run in Shark infested water.
---
West is 94 and In
Los Angeles and Phoenix need just a single point gain on Dallas while
San Jose will still need two to be playoff bound in the West.
Dallas blew their opportunity, ending with back to back losses with San
Jose that almost assures the Stars are gone. To make this more
painful for their fans, the Stars lost the very last game on the NHL
schedule last season or they were going to the playoffs and it is very
likely to happen again. Stranger things have happened, but they
just blew their chance and the West could all be set on Thursday.
---
First and Worst?
GM Marcel is in for a big night and maybe a short
playoffs in Montreal. First overall draft pick Ovechkin, hung onto
by Marcel at the Trading Deadline, even though well in first, is now on
death row as far as being a playoff player or not. It is a
decision GM's have to make all the time, but usually not one first place
teams put themselves in and for Marcel it could easily backfire, with no
one to blame but himself. With the possibility of losing Horton to
injury and Benn also missing the playoffs, the Habs could be left with
the East's worst first round playoff team, although will easily finish
in first place. "It could go to a disaster very quickly if things
go wrong tonight and Saturday" said Muddy Capone, "And don't think other
GM's aren't dreaming of matching up with Montreal in the first round if
those guys aren't playing." That matchup is currently with
Philadelphia (Scott), the only NHLP team to not have a point so far in
April, but could still be Carolina (Joel), NY Rangers (Charlie) or even
NY Islanders (Ryan) currently just 7 behind the injury riddled Flyer.
Marcel does not want to be the team everyone wants to play, so Ovechkin
and Benn need to find a way to be in the Habs lineup for the NHLP's
first round of the playoffs.
---
Pressure Mounts for GM
GM Scott has always said that if every GM won the Cup just one more
time, one of us still won't be raising it for 12 more years. "It
is so hard to win" said GM Scott, "And we work all season at building
our teams, to get this shot, it is so painful blowing it now."
Scott said he made a vow to himself after winning last season, after
previously blowing off the season's after he won, to never do that
again. "I have just made up my mind, heading into this season,
that it is too hard to win and the last one might actually be just that,
the last one" said Scott, "So I said to myself I was going to have my
strongest draft ever and do whatever it takes to never bury another
team, ever, no matter the cost." It is that mentality that all
GM's fiercely need, many already having it, making these games so
meaningful each night. "To blow off a year, just seems like the
most stupid thing I have ever heard of, and I have done it myself" the
GM stated, "So once you go out, missing this opportunity, if it doesn't
bother you to the very core, and make you want to be the strongest you
can be next season, as far as a GM goes, I'd have to say you are just
weak." Scott said he has been determined all season to be the very
first GM to 5 Cups and with just 72 hours left in the NHLP season and
playoff matchups, NHL matchups and playoff positions still on the line,
for GM Scott anyhow, the pressure mounts...
---
You WILL Beat Us
"You'll Probably Beat Us" was the disastrous marketing campaign
this season in Calgary (Jr), and although the Flames are looking like a
sure playoff team in the NHLP's West Conference, they stand the most to
lose of any NHLP team over the next 72 hours. "They will be
changing the slogan, or celebrating it's accuracy" stated Muddy Capone,
"If the teams four Sabres are out of the playoffs." GM Jr has
stated he hopes to not be in the playoffs if Buffalo misses, but the
league doesn't work that way, not yet anyhow. GM Chad has
presented a rules change to the NHLP that could gain serious momentum
heading into next season, something that could have given GM Jr his wish
had the Sabres not made the playoffs. Under Chad's proposal, the
NHLP would do away with Penalty Free and Potential Penalty teams and
instead work on the "You either have them or you don't premise" as Chad
has put it. "If you have 5 playoff players, no penalty" explained
Chad, "But each non playoff guy after that counts against your
standing." Chad said it keeps teams still trying, even if the
battle is for 9th or 10th and anyone looking at the West's Standings,
could make a case for teams penalty out under his plan, right down to
his 11th place team. Chad says all GM's are in the same boat and
it allows GM's to take whatever chances they desire, however, for those
that guess wrong, least they don't steal a playoff spot when they have
no chance of winning, just because they are penalty free. Well, Jr
will either have them or he won't in the next 72 hours, but either way,
it is looking like Calgary will be in the NHLP playoffs regardless.

Tie-Breakers in Officepools
When teams are tied in the NHLP Standings, the team
with the higher goals scored breaks the tie and if still tied, the GM
with the most points on all his teams. So when you look at the
standings, the, ties are correct in office pools and the team you are
tied with and you are in the proper seed. To see your goals
scored, click on your team name and then at the right, click DETAILS
(just above your players).
---
Playoff Tie-Breaking Picks - Choice
In round one of the NHLP playoffs, the three teams in the number one
seed, their tie-breaker will be the 1 and 8 NHL teams, from either East
or West, and so forth. So the NHLP GM's this year, who have the
tie-breaking pick can pick East or West, so will have a choice of two
series to pick from for the first three rounds. The highest point
team in the finals will pick from the two NHL teams in the finals as
their tie-breaker and the than next highest GM will do the same.
If any two of the three teams are tied at the end of the finals, if the
higher seeded team picked the winner, they win, if not, they lose.
If all three teams are tied, did the highest seed pick the winner?
If so they win, if not did the next highest seed pick the winner?
If so they'd win, if not the lowest seed would win on the tiebreaker.
Confused? Just make the playoffs first!!!

GM Top Performer
Award
We got to thinking. The CTR ranks each NHLP
team based on strength of the team. It factors in the draft,
meetings, waivers, all transactions, injuries and in the end, final
makeup of your team. In the end, NHLP standings don't matter to
the final numbers, as don't the fact you give points in trades or
received points along the way. The CTR does factor in the NHL
Standings, for all players, ranking teams based solely on their NHL
position in the standings. Like the CTR or not, the number is a
somewhat accurate indicator of what teams are the best in the NHLP and
what teams are much weaker. So we thought, if we take the total
CTR of all a GMs teams, that should give us an indication of a GMs
overall performance. Did a GM build strong teams as a whole?
Is a GM constantly/consistently strong across the board? Where is
this all going? Well, to the GM Top Performer of the Year Award is
where we are going with this. We have figured out the past three
years and can go back much further. We found last year GM Charlie
won the award and the year before GM Jr did, even though the cups those
years went to GM Scott and GM Tyson. This year is yet to be
determined, with the final CTR coming at the end of the season.
However, in the last three years, who has been the Top Performing GM?
Of this GM, his last 9 teams have been stronger than all others at the
end of each season. Do you think you rank in the top 6 or bottom
6? The answer
may surprise you, but it won't be who you think. Check it out here
at the bottom of the CTR page.
---
Who's #1 Overall?
Check It Out
There is only one CTR left and the playoff predictor. The 75 game
CTR is completed, reflecting the final NHLP teams and their races for
the playoffs and playoff positioning. Who is number one? How
did your teams fair on the season? In classic CTR fashion, we
didn't hold back, so it isn't for the faint of heart to read!

Andrew Leads With 25
Transactions
For the first time in 4 years GM Scott will end the
season not having led the league in total Transactions as GM Andrew's 25
was one more than Scott's 24. Four GM's topped the 20 mark with
both GM's Matt and Shawn at 21. The most quiet GM this season was
no surprise as for the second straight season GM Charlie was dead last,
this time only making 7 moves all season long and was only one of two
GM's who never used the Minors this season, GM Marcel the other.
Andrew, Scott and Shawn all used the Minors 6 times while GM Jr's 5
Waivers led the league. No two GM's made more deals (5) than Scott
and Matt, but hooking up for times on deals were Chad and Jr.
---
---
Toronto Blunder Hi-Lights Meeting
Although the Board of Governors has decided against sanctions, that
would have seen GM Chad lose his hosting rights for next years Trading
Deadline, the league did come down with a stiff fine for the Toronto
Franchise. GM Chad will still have to pay for the rescinded deal
made at the Deadline, which left a black mark over the league
proceedings. "It was embarrassing" stated a league representative,
"The jury is out on GM Chad's intentions, ranging from intentionally
trying to make a mockery of the system or just flat out trying to get
the upper hand on his fellow GMs." GM Chad swears it was nothing
more than a mistake, and to his credit he did report the situation to
the league upon seeing 8 guys on his team. When Toronto realized
they they were carrying 8 contracts in Toronto, after dropping a player
they no longer had in Myers, leaving the desperate Leafs with 8 players
under contract, a clear violation of the Collective Bargaining
Agreement, the Leafs immediately came forward to notify the league of
the issue. After investigating the matter, Chad was only made to
pay for the deal that wasn't, but is on probation for the 2012/13
season.

GM Vinnie: "I'm Not Bitter at All"
The Yearbook sat down with GM Vinnie this weekend and was straight
forward in a one on one interview with the former GM. Vinnie was
asked by the Yearbook, in regards to not being in the NHLP this season,
"Are you bitter?" "Not at all" said the GM who still wants back
into the NHLP, "If there was an opening and I lost out, that could have
been reason for being bitter, but it was a matter of not expanding past
the current twelve and I get that." Vinnie said he desperately
wants back into the league and 'It is a credit to the NHLP that guys
want back in." Vinnie admits he just didn't have the time before,
but does have the time now and knows the hours it takes to be in the
"Best pool in the world" as he called it. The league will be
pushed harder than ever in 2012/13 to move passed the 12 GM mark, as
high as to 15 depending on GM's Mike and Ray situation. "If you
drop to 6 players per team, that frees up 36 players, the same as adding
6 more NHLP teams" said a GM who would like to see the league expand.
There has been talk of GM Glen coming back and the league does
anticipate GM's Mike and Ray eventually being independent owners of
their own Franchise's but rumors are they cannot agree on who would get
the rights to the Winnipeg Jets and until that is settled both GM's will
operate as co-GMs.
---
GM Charlie Losses it on the BOG
GM Charlie, pushed one more time to his limit, flew off the handle in a
profanity filled tirade directed at the NHLP's Board of Governors.
"We have never had one single decision go our way, ever" steamed the GM,
"If one of my teams do anything, rest assured the ruling goes against us
every time." After words back and forth, GM Charlie was told that
he could run for the the next vacant Board of Governors position, but as
one BOG member stated, "There are no openings at this time and if
they're were, Charlie would have to get voted in by the current BOG
members, so read into that what you want. But he can still apply."
Charlie has been at odds with the league rulings for the past 10 years
and when the same BOG member was asked if they are harder on GM Charlie
than other GM's he stated, "No one GM could be so unlucky as to have 10
straight rulings go against them, but it is kind of funny." As for
now Charlie won't be getting a seat on the committee anytime soon, but
as one GM put it, that is likely a good thing for GM Charlie, "Where
would he ever find the time to make all those Transactions he makes, and
run the league?"
---
Andrew Leads With 25
Transactions

Keith Could Get Up To 5 Games?
Sedin Gone How Long?
There is all kinds of speculation about the NHLP's
Miami Surf player Keith, who could be suspended for as many as 5 games
for his
hit on Daniel Sedin of Toronto (Chad),
directly behind them in the Central's Standings. Keith has never
been suspended, which helps his case, but the NHLP just gave Doan three
games for an Elbow just yesterday. "You can't elbow a player
directly to the head any more obviously than that" stated Muddy Capone
about the hit, "Shockingly it was only a minor penalty, for had Sedin
actually stayed on the ice for a minute, it would have been a major."
Sedin has returned to Vancouver where we await word of the severity of
the injury, but all indications are it is likely a concussion. TSN
reports Sedin can see a neurological specialists in Vancouver but also
get soft tissue (ART) and chiropractic treatment which is essential for
any potential concussion to separate brain trauma symptoms from skeletal
or soft tissue related symptoms. Days ahead of the NHLP Trading
Deadline and so much uncertainty involving the length of the injury will
make things very interesting over the next 48 hours.
---
Tampa Moves To Potential Penalty
The Tampa Bay Lightning players are now
potential penalty players while Toronto and Carolina stayed alive
Saturday and Buffalo moved into penalty free heading into Sunday's games
in the East.
---
West Gets Crazier
Six teams are separated by just 3 points for the final playoff position
heading into Sunday and all are penalty free teams in the NHLP after the
completion of Saturday's games. In the next six days every team in
the race plays at least another team once over that span. Calgary
and Phoenix can only tighten things Sunday, and by both winning the 6
teams will all only be one point apart.
---
Destroyers Have Sights on Target
GM Shawn said he is not looking over his shoulder
in the East in Halifax, "We have our sights on a playoff spot and will
do whatever necessary to take one, regardless of what others do or don't
do." With a pack of teams in the 280's, just 20 points ahead and
with Shawn having 7 playoff players including three Blues, you know this
team is going to take a spot. Just behind the Destroyers are the
Hitmen (Tyson) and the Rangers (Charlie) in the race for 8th. With
the Rangers having Crosby back and fully stocked, you know they have a
playoff spot with Rangers wrote clearly in Cup engraving lettering, so
something has got to give. "Everyone playing possum" said Muddy
Capone, "But clearly no one is dead." It doesn't appear any NHLP
teams are pulling any deals now until the Trading Deadline, so see you
next Saturday to sort this entire mess out once and for all.
---
McDonald Weak to Week
Hartford (Andrew) and Edmonton (Scott) are without McDonald on a weekly
basis but the St Louis coach said, "We are sure we will have him back
for the playoffs, it isn't day to day, but it isn't a month thing
either." Well, last time and the time before that it was a head
thing but apparently it is only a contusion to the shoulder and not a
concussion that likely would have ended his career. "You you have
more concussions over a year period than points, it is usually a sign it
is time to pack it in" said Muddy Capone, "But McDonald should be back,
they hope anyhow, by the first round of the NHL playoffs."
---
10-0-0
Not even Sidney Crosby could screw up the
Pittsburgh Penguins hot streak. "He is the chemist" said Muddy
Capone, "All chemistry issues went out the window when he was announced
to the starting lineup." The Penguins thrashed the Rangers, and
earned the good looking 10-0-0 in their previous ten games. GM
Charlie moved to six points out in the East and with Datsyuk not far
behind, this is a game changer in the East for the NHLP's most scary
looking team. "A healthy team of Crosby, Datsyuk, Filppula, Kunitz
and Kronwall would be hard to beat if NHLP teams carried 10 players, but
this is a 7 player team" Capone states about how solid this NY Rangers
team of GM Charlie's is. Knowing that this is truly a legitimate
opportunity, a first ever cup in the balance, GM will clearly have to
make moves ahead of the Trading Deadline or simply just be there to
ensure he makes it in, able to counter the coming moves by rival teams.
"All too often we see dead duck teams at the Trading Deadline, knowing
their GM's cannot counter any moves" Capone explains, "And with 42 man
games left per team after the meeting, there is no time to overcome 10
to 15 points." Clearly, this is a true game changer for GM
Charlie.
---
Parenteau and Plekanec
106 Points Standing in Line
They know they are going. It has been a
matter of time for about three months now, yet with just 9 days
remaining until the NHLP Trading Deadline, neither of the Dallas Stars
(Jr) players know where they are going, although it is a good guess
where they will end up. "They are big numbers heading to the
minors" stated Muddy Capone, "Either Jr does it because he can afford
whatever it takes to drop them before a trade or the team getting them
does it, but unless you are burying one neither will be in the NHL
playoffs." The Stars already have more points than charity would
allow them to give away, but they also have much less options this late
in the season then they had before many big names were traded already
from non playoff teams. It is reported they were in on Crosby and
Filppula and surely can outbid any competing team in points for any
remaining players, but the best the Stars could have got is likely gone
and Jr, although he won't admit it, is building his second best team
with what he does now. "Points are useless, unless in use" said
the late legendary GM Raymond, and Muddy Capone said nobody plays that
game better than GM Jr, "You will never see the carnival closing down to
leave town, and GM Jr sitting with a handful of unused ride tickets.
He uses them as quickly as he buys them and is seemingly always on
another ride. Then you have other GM's who were so busy just
watching and trying to figure out the ball
throw game, they are left with a pocketful of unused ride tickets.
Both were at the same carnival, whereas one took the carnival for a
ride, while the other, got taken for a ride by the carnival." This
year it looks like Jr will be leaving the carnival with a pocket full of
unused ride tickets.

Chicago States Story Misleading
Chicago (Andrew) has stated the NHLP Yearbook didn't have all their
facts correct in the article yesterday entitled "BACKhow-soonSTROM?".
"He is skating right now with the team and feeling much better" stated
Andrew, "These are stories, also ran yesterday, and from more reputable
media sources." One such story was in the
Washington Post while the other was in
RotoWorld. Andrew stated the NHLP
Yearbook needs to ensure they get facts correct about players before
tarnishing their good names in non-factual stories, "We have the points
to give for a top, Elite player, on a playoff team that is set to return
soon. Those are the facts." Most of what was actually said
isn't something we can print in a family magazine stated a Yearbook
source. When asked to comment about Backstrom's potential return
Muddy Capone stated, "He doesn't think were reputable?"
---
BACKhow-soonSTROM?
GM Andrew told the Yearbook that it isn't a matter
of if the Washington Capitals are a NHL playoff team or when Backstrom
will rejoin the team that matters, "What matters is I am moving him and
I want to give the GM taking him a lot of points." Chicago is up
over 40 points on 9th and GM Andrew, although he can be a tight GM with
his points according to Muddy Capone, has said a big deal is an email
away and will happen, "I am moving him. He is gone and points are
going with him, who cares about anything else." Backstrom's value
has gone up with Washington's recent hot play and Chicago definitely has
points to move with the GM willing to take a chance on his return, "The
risk is always part of the reward" stated Muddy Capone, "And when you
have the points to give, risks aren't always the best option, whereas a
bubble team, hasn't as much to lose."
---
GM Charlie's Week
Crosby, Datsyuk and now Havlat, this is a great
week for GM Charlie. Havlat will return to San Jose's lineup on
Thursday night, just in time to help Charlie complete a deal in Phoenix
for some of the big names there waiting to move. Only 23 out of a
playoff spot and with names such as Hartnell, Jagr, Del Zotto and Carle,
it seems there is no shortage of moves the Coyotes could do now that
Havlat is back. "That is what is missing in San Jose, secondary
scoring" stated Muddy Capone, "Don't forget this guy was suppose to
replace Heatley's 40 goals, so it is a major boost to their lineup at a
critical stretch in the season."
---
Engraved!
Stamkos already has his name being engraved on
the Rocket Richard Trophy, to the NHL player who scores the most goals
during the season. With a dozen games to go, Stamkos scored his
50th goal, 12 more than his closest competitor in the NHL.
Indianapolis GM Matt who owns Stamkos and his 84 points could only be
happier if Stamkos was a guaranteed playoff player, but for Tampa Bay to
overcome a 7 point deficit in just 13 games isn't likely, but not
totally out of the realm of what is possible. "I think they will
get in" stated GM Matt, "They still play Washington once and 8 of the 13
they play are non playoff teams." If they can win their game at
hand, they are only a true 5 behind Washington and the game head to head
could put them 3 behind in 11 games, definitely possible. What is
a safer bet, Stamkos wins the Rocket Richard Trophy!!!

All NHLP Teams Below 100 Man Games
It is official, the season is coming to a rapid
close. San Fran (Scott) only has 84 man games remaining while GM
Charlie's Coyotes were the final team to dip below 100, with just 98
games now on the schedule. "You see them disappear and don't think
nothing of it" said Muddy Capone, "But that is your chance to gain on
teams in front of you slipping away." If you can't catch a team by
gaining on them, you are left with just trades and the Trading Deadline.
"We always seem to go through this lull, where guys are holding onto
their playoff players and teams with points are holding onto their
points, neither happy with the others offers" Capone explains, "But at
some point, be it at the meeting, desperation sets in for those that
didn't act in time, either with points to give that they can't find
suitors for or points needed where what is left doesn't work with the
numbers." What way is best we asked Capone? "That all
depends on if things work out in the end for everyone. The GM's
that aren't happy leaving the meeting, their way wasn't best."
---
Montreal Not Happy With Leak
GM Marcel has commented on a NHLP story, which was
broke just yesterday by Jos Bleau, Montreal
NHLP team reporter, "I spoke with him and I fired him for leaking the
news" stated a clearly angry GM Marcel. What the Habs GM fails to
understand is Bleau works for the Yearbook and the NHLP Yearbook has no
intentions of firing or replacing Bleau, "His position is as safe as any
current team reporters" said NHLP head reporter Muddy Capone who
oversees hiring and firing of all 36 team reporters, "Bleau's reporting
over the years has been exceptional and it is safe to say he is clearly
just not some average Joe Blow."
---
Doan't Benn Jokinen Man
Montreal team reporter Jos Bleau is telling the
NHLP Yearbook that Doan and Jokinen's 101 points are being shopped as a
package and GM Marcel is very close to pulling the trigger. "The
two will be gone by the weekend" stated Bleau about his inside
information saying that Benn is also in play. GM Marcel would not
confirm anything to the Yearbook, however, Colorado (Chad) team reporter
Willie B. Hardigan did state that GM Chad and Marcel are in discussions
for a blockbuster deal and draft picks are holding up the deal from
being finalized.
---
New Orleans "Never Give In"
GM Shawn admitted he just won't give up, "I read in a NHLP Yearbook Jr
showed me some pretty amazing quotes and it inspired me" said Shawn who,
although 40 points back in the Central, added Shaw for Backlund.
"Never give in" the GM said, "You have to be willing to work harder,
longer, and give more than anyone else to win. I want to be that
GM, known as that guy that just won't quit." 'Never Give In' might
be a good team slogan for the Wolverines, who have struggled all season,
and just when it appears they might be ready to pack it in, GM Shawn is
giving a late rally cry which may turn some heads. "When you reach
the end of your rope you can either let go" Shawn said, "Or tie a knot
and hang on like hell." The knots tied!
---
Philly's High is League Low
Every single NHLP team have a higher scoring player than the team leader
in Philadelphia, Kesler who only has 46 points, but that isn't stopping
Flyer GM Scott from thinking about winning his 5th NHLP Championship.
"I think I have put together a dozen teams that could have won in 23
years" said GM Scott, "I think I know when I see a team that can win and
I think the Flyer are a tweak away from being that good, even without
anyone that can score." Without any scorers the Flyer are now in
3rd place in the East Conference, just a point out of second place.
"I talked to GM Andrew tonight who confirmed I have a team full of
deadbeats, guys other GM's just don't want on their teams" the GM told
the Yearbook, "But come the NHLP playoffs it isn't the horse that can
carry the most weight that wins, it is the horse that can carry the most
weight the farthest that raises the Cup and I truly believe this is a
Cup winning team."
---
Potential Penalties
Four NHL teams became potential penalties in the NHLP after the games
played Tuesday night. Montreal, NY Islanders, Anaheim and
Minnesota players can only now make the NHL playoffs or will be
penalties for the GM's holding them. NHLP teams are allowed to end
the NHLP season with one Penalty player and all other such players come
off the teams NHLP standings before teams are seeded per Conference from
1 to 8. Carolina, Toronto and Tampa Bay are all teams that appear
to be the next to fall into this category, although non are officially
in the category yet ahead of the NHLP Trading Deadline on March 24th.
---
Have a Rumor to Post?
How about even just making one up! Just send it in and we post it.
If it is a complete fabrications without any facts! No problem!
Feel like tampering with another GM's players? No problem!
In fact, we are so desperate to post bullshit, that even if we get
nothing, we will make up our own shit and post it, claiming you sent it
anyhow. So why spend time trying to defend yourself when you can't
win anyhow, for all our sources remain confidential. So why don't
you just decide to do the manipulating crap yourself and spread a rumor,
fact or fiction, about what you hear is going down in the NHLP.
---
Desert Dogs Making Rounds
The Phoenix Coyotes (Charlie) team reporter, Noah Lott, has stated that
the Coyotes are in discussions of a pre NHLP Trading Deadline deal.
It is believed all 7 playoff players are in play with a package of
Hartnell and Havlatt to be potentially huge." If the Sharks can
win a few in a roll, grabbing the third seed before the meeting, Phoenix
can really net major points" said Lott, adding, "We have seen a new GM
Charlie this year so don't expect nothing to happen or just something
small. This is a major move with elite NHLP players involved."
Havlat is currently travelling with the NHL's Sharks on their current
four game road trip and has been a forgotten talent around the NHLP with
his almost season long injury.
---
Joel's Aggressive Approach
GM Joel is rumored to have been circulating a lot
of emails in the past few days, with a few big names being thrown
around. "Just minor tweaks really" stated GM Joel to the Yearbook
but other sources say there is a major move brewing with Joel who would
like to move Nash in Carolina.
---
Major Offers for Callahan?
There should be no surprises that GM Chad has confirmed some major
offers have been received for Callahan in Colorado. "He is likely
the best player on out of a playoff spot (in the NHLP)" said Chad who
wouldn't confirm or deny that Callahan will be moved. "We have a
lot of irons in the fire, bigger things is all I will say" said Chad.
Bigger than what we wonder? Bigger than what?
Sharp Shots
GM Scott said that Sharp is likely the odd man out in San Fran.
"Actually I didn't say that at all" was Scott's response when he read
the Yearbook's rumors about Sharp being traded. "Who makes this
shit up" the GM wanted to know, "I'd not trade Sharp if I was offered 50
points." When asked Scott's plan in San Fran, currently out of the
playoffs, the GM Said "Likely hope and pray someone offers me 1 or 2
points for Blake and his sister and if that fails, trade Sharp for
whatever we can possibly get in return." But you just said you'd
not trade Sharp? "Ya, just fucking with you. He's as good as
gone" said San Fran's GM.

Is Your NHLP Team's Players Correct?
Please advise us if you ever see your team wrong after about 48 hours
after contacting us. For instance, Colorado dropped Morrow and
added Salo. That transaction was reflected in the Transactions,
Player Tracking, the Colorado home page, Pick Up Hockey but for whatever
reason not Office Pools. Got overlooked somehow. So if you
don't bring it to our attention that your team's players are not right,
we likely won't notice either. Just keep us on our toes.

NHLP Trading Deadline -
Saturday, March 24th at 11 AM
The NHLP Trading Deadline is set for 11 AM on Saturday, March 24th.
Both of the final weekend dates would have two GM's not in attendance,
but with GM Charlie only being able to make a Sunday afternoon meeting,
that became the determining factor in the meeting being Saturday morning.
Even if Charlie was good all Sunday, with GM's having to travel back after
the meeting, the meeting would have still been on Saturday over Sunday,
had there been a true deadlock, which there wasn't. GM's not in attendance need to
ensure they make deals ahead of the meeting, knowing the standings
always tighten there after. Any non playoff players they have
should be moved to GM's attending so they may be dumped at the meeting.

Follow Your Injuries
If you have an injured guy and have any questions about when you can
pick for him, please just email. To know how many games your
player must miss, go to Player Tracking and find his CONTRACT then go to
injuries.
Contracts
5 miss 9 games
4 miss 10 games
3 miss 11 games
2 miss 12 games
1 miss 13 games
Go into sites like TSN, or whatever you use and find out how many
straight games a player has missed. Takes a few minutes tops from
start to finish. Again, if you don't know. Ask.

What if: Drafted Players Didn't Fall Under a Team's Salary Cap?
Imagine if the NHL said that all players Drafted by your team, that
their contracts do not fall under the salary cap, no matter how much
money you spend signing and resigning them. All other players you
get through trades or signing of new players, this amount works against
your salary cap. Even if you had to make the cap lower (than it is
now), because not as many players need to be under it, as every team
must have some players signed they drafted (you'd hope). This
would allow possible dynasty's like the Chicago team that won the Cup or
Edmonton in the future, when their current stars develop, these teams
could keep the team together if they choose. This way they'd
not have to sell players to get under the cap or if they simply can't
afford to fit all their stars under the cap. It would allow big
markets to sign more stars if they desire, maxing their own caps by
signing and acquiring players and retaining their own drafted stars at
any costs (higher contracts so they would not leave to go elsewhere).
Small market teams that have drafted lots of good players could elect to
keep them signed, or let them go as UFA's to save money, however, all
teams are signing the UFA's under the same cap space, so the big market
teams technically can't buy any more stars than anyone else, but they
can just pay more money to keep what stars they drafted from leaving.
Just an interesting thought.

NHL Deadline Changes Little in NHLP
No big names changed teams and no top non playoff
players moved to playoff teams with the NHL Trading Deadline. GM
Jr called it the "Worst ever deadline in NHL history." It does
seem to be broken and the buzz is not worth the results. St Louis
(Tyson) did have McGinn move from San Jose to Colorado, likely nothing
more than a sideways move anyhow as he was likely to find himself in the
NHLP Minors at the Trading Deadline and Colorado is only one point off
catching San Jose for the final playoff spot anyhow. GM Scott said
the NHL should look at something that can bridge the gap between the way
things use to be (pre-lockout) and the current cap system. "There
have got to be ways to allow teams to go for it, instead of all these
restrictions" said GM Scott. Scott explained a couple thoughts.
Firstly, why not give 3 points for a regulation win, two for an overtime
win and one for an overtime loss. Each game is worth the same
amount of points and no "extra points" just because two teams can't
score and go to OT. This gives teams an incentive to go for it
during regulation, the way it should be, so they can go 3 points to zero
on the team they are playing and by going to OT, they actually now have
conceded a point, as the best they can now get is two points, thus
discouraging teams from playing for OT. If my team wins 5 games in
regulation we have 15 points and if your team wins 5 games in OT, you
have 10. The current system says we both have 10 and are equal.
Are we? As for the Cap, as an example, what if teams where allowed
to go over the cap at some point in the weeks prior to the deadline, so
big spending teams or cap restrictions aren't a wall, but rather more of
a line in the sand. They would pay a heavy penalty for crossing
it, but it can be crossed. Even penalizing them twice the amount
they are over in dollar for dollar penalties, paid to the leagues
revenue sharing fund. So if the Rangers wanted to add $10 million
over the cap yesterday, because they are a big market team who wants to
go for it this year, and they are now $10 million over the cap ceiling,
they'd owe $20 million to the revenue sharing fund, going to the weaker
market teams but allowing the bigger market team a right and freedom it
thinks it should have already anyhow. Spending Freely!!!
Of course, any team can go over, to go for it when they have a shot.
Bottom line is all teams have to be back under the ceiling to start the
next year. "I don't know what it is" said Scott, "But surely there
has to be better ways that creative minds can think of." There are
too many non movement clauses, but again, teams fault for giving those
things away. Why can't if both the team and player decide,
mutually, to opt out of a contract, why can't that happen? So Nash
says, look, I don't want to spend 6 more years here and Columbus too
bad, so sad, then he is. Or they say OK, we agree, we will get rid
of the last 5 years. Ok with you? Yup, that works says Nash,
becoming an UFA at the end of next year now. Something's must work
better for certain things that appear broken.

Green Bay Trades Crosby
GM Ryan pulled off a historical NHLP Blockbuster (again), this time in
Green Bay where he gained 43 points in a deal for Crosby and Filppula
for Elias and Weiss. "We had a lot of good offers" said a wired GM
Ryan, "But none could top this one." Green Bay had received many
offers from several GM's, including a reported 50 points from Dallas
(Jr), but in the end GM Ryan said he didn't need to accept non-playoff
players for Crosby. "I knew I could take lesser points and get
playoff guys" said Ryan in a phone call with the Yearbook tonight, "That
was evident by the offers we received." Green Bay had set a Monday
evening deadline for trading Crosby and GM Charlie stepped up with what
clearly was the best offer. Ryan said the two GM's had been
talking "For several days" and after agreeing to a possible compensation
package, a safety net in case Crosby doesn't return, the deal became
complete at "8:22 PM, Sunday" Ryan stated with a fist pump, recalling
the exact time it was complete, after many texts between the two GM's.
That compensation is a possible 2nd and 4th round pick next year, going
from Green Bay to New York, if Crosby does not play another game in the
Season or Playoffs this year. Green Bay now pulls into 6th spot in
the West and will use the Waiver on Tuesday to further strengthen their
playoff team. The 43 points is the second largest NHLP deal in
league history, with 56 going to Ryan's Bruins in a 2006 Trade with the
Philadelphia Flyer, a deal that helped the Flyer win the Cup, something
that GM Charlie is hoping will be the case this season in New York.
---
Drafting Crosby Fourth Overall
Green Bay (Ryan) knew Crosby would be out a while, but he did think he
would return and he did think he'd dominate when he did return.
"It was the second concussion I knew was possible, but I didn't think it
would happen" Ryan explains in his logic of such a pick on a player who
was set to miss much of the season. If Crosby had played since he
first returned, with his 12 points in just 8 games, everything would
have been different and Ryan would have been able to build around him,
easily being way up in the standings. "As it was I did pretty good
to stay close" said the Green Bay GM, "So I was very happy about that."
It was clear that Crosby was in the back of every GM's mind, and every
pick he would have been a flashing thought, so if it wasn't Ryan at 4 it
would have been another GM close thereafter. "My first pick was 22
and I would have taken him, that was the plan" said GM Scott, "But in my
mind I was hoping someone in front of me took him first, so I didn't
have to make that decision." As it turned out that 22 pick was
Semin and almost every GM would have rather had Crosby looking back.
It is a risk taking the long term injured guys, like Savard and Crosby
and more often these players play a big part of the league, but usually
on another team then the one who drafted him. GM Ryan's Knights
did get Elias and Weiss, two great scorers, but the general consensus
isn't that both GM's didn't win this deal, clearly they both did, but it
is that Crosby and Filppula have a better chance of their names on the
NHLP Cup and it was Ryan who did the drafting.
---
Best for Last
GM Charlie's New York Rangers became the final NHLP
team to make a Transaction this season, and it was his biggest deal in
12 years as an NHLP GM. "If the Yearbook would ever answer their
text messages they would have my official quote on the deal" stated the
GM, not previously known for giving major points in any deal prior to
this, in his dozen cupless years as a GM. "This is the new me"
Charlie said after loading his Rangers up for a serious Cup run.
Now with a lineup of Datsyuk, Crosby, Filppula, Kunitz, Kronwall, Cleary
and Boyes, the Rangers are a serious threat now for their second NHLP
Championship (1996, GM Lee), and a first for Charlie. "This is the
kind of move that wins Championships" said an admittedly shocked Muddy
Capone, "And this isn't the kind of move we would have ever expected
from GM Charlie." Everyone knew Crosby would be traded, but it was
the GM, not the points that will likely shock the most GM's. The
Rangers did pay for adding Crosby and Filppula, as Elias and Weiss are
no slouches by any stretch, making the deal that much more aggressive,
dropping the Rangers from 2nd to 8th in the East and without Datsyuk and
Crosby at the moment. Capone added, "What a great aggressive move
by a veteran GM who seems to have finally decided it was time to GM with
the big boys."

NHLP Trading Deadline
Dates Posted
The NHLP have posted three weekends of dates for the 2012 Trading
Deadline but several GM's already agree the final weekend is too late in
the season, with only 6 games remaining. "We will see how
attendance goes, but hopefully either of the first two work" said GM Jr
who is hosting the event somewhere in the Zoo. "Just head towards
the Gorilla exhibits" said GM Scott, "About the same size as the local
GM's." Of course GM Joel had to grunt in, "And GM Chad prefers to
be called a Silverback!" Please take a look and get your
availability in for the most important meeting of the season.

Crosby - "Sweepstakes Have Begun"
The Green Bay Knights of the NHLP's Western Divisions have stated in a
press release to the Yearbook that the official Crosby sweepstakes has
begun. GM Ryan said he wanted to make all GM's aware that Crosby
will be traded, and with such a low number and high point teams
everywhere, that he is very tradable. "I don't want anyone saying
that they didn't know he would be traded" said Ryan in the statement.
Crosby is still out with the concussion but his first round playoff
scoring will help any team through the all important first round where
their deep run players can then carry the team. "You know as well
as I do" said Ryan, "There is no reason to play him right now. He
will play the final couple weeks and in the playoffs." Crosby
could go himself or with other playoff players, including the Red Wings
Filppula who will start the playoffs at home, where they can't lose.
High scoring teams looking for a high scoring addition who can eat an
injured player need to take this very serious for the sweepstakes have
officially begun in the Bay.

No NHLP Cup For Nolan
Drafted first round, first overall in 1990, just after the NHLP's first
Cup winner was awarded, Owen Nolan officially retired from hockey today.
Although being a fixture in the NHLP for the better part of two decades,
Nolan never did get his name on an NHLP Championship winning team.
In 1200 career games Nolan scored 422 goals and 885 points but ends his
career without his name engraved on Lord Stanley, although did earn an
Olympic Gold Metal in 2002 with Team Canada. He may always be
remembered for "Calling his shot" in the 1997 All-Star Game, being
played on his home ice in San Jose, pointing top right at Dominik Hasek
before beating him upstairs for the Hat-Trick, although
Hasek still won the game's MVP award.
---
Still No "N"
With Nolan's retirement, there is still no player who's last name has
started with the letter N currently on the NHLP Championship Cup.
"It isn't a very popular letter to start a last name to begin with"
states Muddy Capone, "So it really isn't a shock." There are only
two currently playing in the entire NHLP with last names starting with
the letter "N" and one is a good bet to have his name there eventually.
Nugent-Hopkins and Neal are the lone players right now that can break
that record, and N-H will likely be in the NHLP minors to end the
season. The Canucks (Joel) and Panthers (Marcel) are both
currently carrying Neal but Capone states it isn't a curse as much as an
anomaly, "Maybe this is the season the letter gets it's name there, but
I am banking on it there before the letter X." Other starting last
name letters to never be engraved and number of current NHL players
who's name starts with that letter are I (6), Q (3), U (5), V (35) and X
(0). Currently 48 NHL players have last names starting with N.

Most Regrettable Deadline Deals Ever
If you can name 1 or more you are a hockey genius.
(I guess I'd have to really see all the Deadline
deals the past 20 years to argue with these. Again, Deadline
deals. Some though, like just a normal player for a first or
second round pick, depending on who was picked could be on this list.)

Who's Going?
Leafs vs. Red Wings
NHL's 2013 Winter Classic
Tuesday, January 1st
The Big House - University of Michigan
Ann Arbor, Michigan
114,807 is the biggest crowd to ever watch a game there and already,
with the NHL hell bent to break it, it seems like every Leaf fan in
Canada will want to attend. Awesome venue and for that area, the
best two teams to play in the game.

East Sheparated By Only 13
Quebec (Matt) had appeared to be using the NHLP injury rules to
his advantage. Kind of like every team in history of the NFL
should be running a 12th man on the field when playing defense in the
final minute of every football game, when up at least 4 points, after
seeing what happened in the Super Bowl. Kill the clock for a 5
yard penalty and an extra defender to prevent the touchdown, when that
was the only thing that mattered. Genius. I'd do it on
purpose every down until they change the rules and why stop at 12?
Is 13 men more than 5 yards? That is a loophole, a serious
loophole in the NFL rules. Well the NHLP rules allow for a GM to
pick up to 5 points if an injured player has 5 or less when it is
replacement time. When Matt picked Sheppard, it was clear to many
he was using this rule to his advantage, so to speak. But the
problem was, when he was told he was able to pick for Sheppard, a month
ago, he didn't. Finally, he dropped Sheppard today for Mueller (5
points), and really tightened the East Division, now 8th to 12th only
separated by 13 points. "I am just on a roll right now" said Matt
about his recent, seemingly good fortune. He may just have a
rabbits foot after all, as all indications are his player Laich may have
also escaped a serious injury Sunday. Finally, after a longer then
expected wait, GM Matt can sit back and enjoy his Sheppard's pie.

Booze, Lay Off The Booze
GM Andrew wanted to clarify a story run Saturday by the Yearbook,
stating he told GM Scott to "Lay off the Booze" and did not use the word
"Alcohol". "I know he just drinks beer" Andrew said, "But care
enough for the fellow I want him making clear choices." GM Scott
said he thought it was the funniest, hearing that from GM Andrew,
stating, "I didn't even have a beer Saturday. A tea and a pop.
Ginger ale." While GM Scott figures he did awesome getting Gaborik
and Clowe, players he targeted, GM Matt and Andrew both think Matt won
the deal. There is clear tension between the two GM's as they are
in a serious battle for a fifth championship but even that does stop the
communication says Andrew, "I still talk to him way too much" said
Andrew laughing, "Seriously though. Tell him to stop sending me
all those texts, emails and MSN messages everyday" to which Scott had
the final word, "I love texting. I have to send him a text, that
was funny."

GM Matt - "Grade A"
Not an A+? GM Matt said he gave himself the
grade of A for his weekend's work. "We went from out of it, to in
a playoff position in Cincinnati with top players Henrique and Brown
that can be moved later if needed" stated Matt. "Selanne could be
traded, but his scoring can move us up quickly" Matt explained, "Plus 25
points." Matt continued in his email explaining "In Indy I got rid
of Pominville, sacrificed one Perron and added Jordan Staal and Bolland,
sure playoff players." Matt said he'd give himself an "A", not
pushing the "A+", but an "A" means he thinks he did top notch.
Let's wait and see if the CTR agrees with his moves.
---
Oil "Passed on Points"
GM Scott said he was going to take a 10 point gain
in the NHLP Standings, which included all playoff players, but he passed
and tried to make a better playoff team. Down were Pominville,
Girardi and Perron and added were Legwand, Suter and Hagelin. "It
was a very crazy 24 hours, the way we like to roll" said GM Scott.
---
Bolland and JVR to Icemen
GM Matt paid a high price for Bolland and James van
Riemsdyk but admitted it was an auction and he knew the high asking
price of the talented pair. "We would have paid more" said Matt,
"But JVR's health limited us to how high we could go." The Icemen
gave 16 points for the pair, parting ways with Pominville and Perron who
ended in the minors when it was all said and done. "We are looking
for Waivers" said Matt, "And we will be a player in each one down the
stretch."
---
BLOCKBUSTER - "Lay Off The Alcohol"
GM Matt brought his Cincinnati Rage back from the depths and he says he
likes his chances being only 6 points out, "We have six playoff players
and a slight chance Selanne gets dealt" said Matt, "But he will score
regardless." Cincinnati was sitting with one of the top playoff
players, on an NHLP team out of the playoffs, something the
CTR
commented on just last week. "You knew at some point a big deal
was happening there" said Muddy Capone and that is where GM Scott
stepped in. "I'd rather acted than react" said GM Scott, "And I'd
rather react with a playoff team. We saw an opportunity to get him
and went for it and we'll figure the rest out later." From the 8th
seed GM Scott gave up 25 points, Selanne, Henrique and Brown for
Gaborik, Clowe and Girardi, to which veteran GM Andrew told Scott to
"Lay off the alcohol." Scott said he was not worried about his
fellow GM's like or dislike of the deal and "I have given GM Andrew 25
points or more in a deal, more times than he has ever made that kind of
points deal with every GM combined. He has 4 Cups and so do I.
So his tight, gun-shy approach, doesn't have any better of a track
record. Just because his teams have more points to give, doesn't
make him more entitled to these players. You still have to go and
get a deal done."

White "Untouchable"
Calgary (Jr) have made it clear heading into the NHLP Trading Deadline,
that Colin White is untouchable. "He is my Reid" stated GM Jr in a
league-wide email, referring to NHLP legend Dave Reid who single
handedly won GM Andrew a Cup in 1999. White, having a subpar year for
his standards with 2 points in 30 games this season, after hitting 6
points in 69 games just one season ago, is the kind of player you need
for a long playoff run says Jr, "I don't get caught up in the numbers
game, I look at the player and how he fits in the team chemistry."
While others think it is just almost impossible to get players to play
in Calgary, GM Jr is known for finding this type of player on his other
teams as well, players that other GM's just seemingly skip right over.
Last season in Dallas, Jr had seen the same thing in Andreas Lilja who
had 7 points in 52 games for the NHL Ducks says Muddy Capone, "And in
the off season the Flyers sign him, obviously seeing something in him
that GM Jr was able to see, that others GM's just weren't." Although
only 3 points in 31 games this season with the Flyers, it is his
situational stats that stick out, "He has really improved the Flyers
penalty kill" said Capone. Meanwhile, Calgary is expecting to move
Kovalchuk by the NHLP deadline.
---
Sam Gagner
If you were fortunate enough to catch the game, it was an amazing piece
of NHL history to witness. "I am always happy when my player gets
a point in a game" said long-time, NHLP GM Scott, "So it isn't anything
I can relate too." The TSN announcers started to pick up on his
big night when he got his 4th point, a career high for himself. It
just seemed every pass, every shot, every time he touched it the puck
was going into the net. By the time it was over, Sam Gagner had 8
points, tying fellow Oilers Wayne Gretzky (twice) and Paul Coffey who
had also accomplished the feat. Not too bad for a 22 year old
player! It is the first time during NHLP history, 23 years on NHL
hockey, that someone has reached numbers so hard to fathom. No NHL
player has ever scored 9, while Darryl Sittler holds the all-time record
with 10 points in a game.

NHLP Big Nights
GM's Chad, Joel, Matt and co GM's Mike and Ray have not had a 12 point
night in their NHLP histories, while the Matt and the co-owners high is
10. Sam Gagner had 8 by himself Thursday, leaving GM Jrs NHLP
historical night of 17 very vulnerable had any current NHLP GM has
Gagner twice on a team. "Even so" said Muddy Capone, "It would
have taken two more points by someone else to hit 18." The Waiver
that could have been last night with Gagner in the minors twice, as well
as four point player Eberle and Hall once. Clarkson of NJ had 3
and is there twice at a reasonable rate. "Four players under 100
points in the minors would have been a 22 point Waiver gain" said Capone

---
Who's Got The Power?
The average team in a NHLP playoff position has 24
points to give while the average team out needs 15 to get in.
Points to give by Conference are led by the Central
with 230 total points to give, the West 213 then the East 150.
There are 10 total teams in the NHLP with 30+ points to give, four in
both the Central and West.
Points needed to get in by Conference sees only 35
between all four teams out in the West, 52 in the East and 98 in the
Central, where the only two NHLP teams 30+ back are. The average
team needs 15 to get into a playoff spot.
There is still work to be done. There are 8
NHLP teams in playoff spots that would penalty out if the season ended
today. Also, as always, the question remains how many points will
be remaining in the minors to fill all non-playoff players needed?
That is for each GM to decide, but rest assured, the real action is yet
to come in the NHLP 2012 season.

Last GM Makes Waiver Pick
GM Scott became the last GM to make a Waiver pick, likely for the first
time ever for himself, but that doesn't mean his transactions are down,
as he made transaction number 12, tying for the league lead with GM's
Andrew and Jr. GM Scott has led the league in transactions the
past 4 years. "I don't get attached to anyone" said Scott, "The
minute you do is the minute you limit yourself and your chances."
Scott is a firm believer in tweaks as he calls it. "You tweak it
and tweak it some more" he says, "Some tweaks kill your team and some
make it, but usually teams sitting doing nothing, win nothing."
Scott has proven over the years he will trade anyone, including trading
his favorite player of all time, Mario Lemieux, on several occasions.
"Mario didn't take it personal" said Scott, "I still get the yearly,
signed Christmas card from him", then adding, "I traded the one this
year for a Andrej Sekera rookie card, but what Mario don't know won't
hurt him."

Schedules Chart - When Do
You Host Next?
Pased at the Winter Meeting was a rotating schedule of each MHLP GM
being responsible for a coming meeting. The first list was
presented based on years of NHL service, while the next four years after
will be at random. Check it out and if you have questions, please
ask.
---
West and East - Not Central
With 18 Waivers to go the Central, likely the
toughest and highest scoring division, only has two Waivers yet to come,
Boston (Ryan) who has made his available and San Fran (Scott) three
Waivers after the NHL Trading deadline and the second to final Waiver of
the year. The West however, will see every team pick except
Indianapolis (Matt), Vancouver (Joel) and St Louis (Tyson), 9 of the 18
remaining Waivers in the West, leaving the East with 7 more Waivers.
---
Transactions +10
After last seasons Winter Meeting we had a total of 61 league wide
transactions, 10 less than after this years Winter Meeting where we
ended with 71 heading into the second half Waivers. Last year
(done online) there were 17 Winter Meeting transactions with this year
hitting 26 in total.

Thanks Sarah!!!
and thanks Scottie...

Los Angeles Waiver, "Could Be Had"
GM Andrew has already contacted the NHLP saying that the "Waiver is
likely available" but he did want to take a closer look at how
everything shakes out. Hopefully Player Tracking isn't too long in
getting updated, but if you have questions of player availability,
please contact the league.
---
-"I Had To Do It"
GM Shawn admitted the obvious, he had no choice to to give GM Jr
Zetterberg and Lidstrom. "We were 48 points out and no other team
stepped up" said GM Shawn, "We dug the hole and now we are trying to dig
ourselves out." The first step came at the meeting when New
Orleans traded Zetterberg and Lidstrom for Eberle and Whitney, gaining
about 25 points int eh exchange. Through the minors Shawn was then
able to get another gain, adding Moulson and Moulson in a healthy gain
that has new life now for the Wolverine going forward.
---
Thanks Everyone - GM Jr
The NHLP Would like to thank all in attendance of
what was one of the best Winter Meetings in league history. "GM Jr
went all out" was what every NHLP GM said, "It was really well
organized" said GM Andrew, "Kudos to Jr." The day saw a flurry of
non stop action and nothing came cheap. "If you weren't putting up
5 to 10 points on the board, you were expecting a battle" said Muddy
Capone, "Several deals for for double digits, including a 30 minute
battle between GM's Jr and Shawn that Jr came away with for 17 points to
the minors." A number of deals high lighted the day, but none were
bigger than Dallas (Jr) acquiring Zetterberg and Lidstrom.

What a Blast!!!!! Great Winter Meeting!

Within 2 Points - Reminder of this Years Rule ChangePenalty Rule changed to within 2 Points
New Rule Change
Deductions for Non-Playoff Players
At the conclusion of the regular NHLP season and to determine NHLP playoff seeding in each Conference, then as well as playoff seeding of all 36 NHLP playoff teams, NHLP teams will be penalized for points of non-playoff players. A non-playoff player will be considered a player of any NHL team, that is not on a team that is at least within 2 POINTS of 8th in the NHL standings (per NHL Conference) on the day of the NHLP Trade Deadline meeting (after all Games ending the night before) and also misses the NHL playoffs (not within 2 points of the 1 thru 8 seeds and misses the playoffs).
All players on NHL teams at least within 2 points for 8th and higher in the NHL standings (per NHL Conference) on the day of the NHLP Trade Deadline meeting (after all Games ending the night before) are considered playoff players regardless of their NHL teams final position in the standings.
Each NHLP team will be allowed
to keep the points of their highest non-playoff player. Each
subsequent non-playoff player's points are deducted from the NHLP teams
total points in the standings and only then the top eight teams in order
of remaining points, after the deductions, are the 1-8 playoff seeds for
that Conference. This final point total of each NHLP playoff team,
after the deductions, will also be the points total used in determining
the NHLP Playoff seeding from 1 to 8 per Conference, which will remain
the same throughout the NHLP playoffs for the purposes of seeding.

Player Tracking Updated
Player Tracking has been updated. Stay tune for any
transactions that may occur. There are rumors floating around of
player movement occurring today. Stay Tune.
---
Minors Frozen Monday
The NHLP minors are frozen now as of Monday Morning. There are 34
games to be played in the NHL before the NHLP meeting.
---
Injuries
If you have a player who is available for pickup,
remember it is your responsibility to follow those players and ask if
you are unsure. There are some guys who can make picks, and
strategically for points it may or may not make sense to do it ahead of
the meeting. Remember, you can drop anyone "Penalty Free" at the
meetings, injured or not.
---
First to a Hunge
GM Jr in Dallas became the first team in league history to reach 100,
ending a wicking month of December with 102 points. Henrik Sedin
led the team with 22 points, followed by Parenteau 16, Spezza 15, Ray
Whitney 15, Weber 13, Eberle 13, and Plekanec 8. This leaves GM Jr
with the current best Big Team Night at 17, Big GM Night (3 Teams) and
Big Team Month. The Big Team Week of 37 belongs to GM Shawn.
---
Fray in the Bay
The promoters of the NHLP's 23rd Winter Meeting are
saying, "Don't just come to play. Come to win!" This meeting will
give a whole new meaning to the phrase "Breaking Bad" said one of the
meetings promoters, "Be on your toes, head on a swivel, prepared, and of
course, come to win" the promoter said, "Participation is for those who
never win. Who only wants to participate? Bring your game,
the best you have. No one wants to be that first casualty, the guy
that is saying that is enough for him. Don't be that guy! Be
the winner! Let's not forget, there is also a Cup to be won."
The Minors will be frozen 5 hockey nights before the meeting, so after
games on the previous Sunday.
---
Bruins Continue to be Cursed
There was a rumor this summer that GM Ryan was considering selling his
Bruins franchise although he continues to deny there is any truth to
that rumor and called it "Yearbook hoopla". Well, if the team was
or wasn't for sale, really makes no difference says Muddy Capone, "There
can be no denying that team has been in shambles for the past 23 NHLP
seasons." Only 4 points out of a playoff spot in the Central, the
Bruins got bad news that Duchene will be gone four weeks. Duchene
may have been a Winter Meeting Casualty anyhow, but certainly will have
his name on the board during the coming meeting after this bad news.
---
Maybe 3 Jackets Was 3 Too Many?
The San Fran Titan (Scott) continue to hang on to a playoff spot in the
Central, despite carrying three Blue Jackets. That will be a
little more difficult of an accomplishment now that Wisniewski is gone
for 6 weeks. "I love my Jackets" said GM Scott, "Just not the Blue
ones." The Titan are expected to be busy at the Winter Meeting as
is GM Scott, who is the only NHLP GM this season to not have used a
Waiver yet this season.
---
East Hit Hard
The 8th, 9th, 10th, 11th and 12th place East teams
all have at least 2 injuries, with the NY Islanders (Ryan) having three.
"The Winter Meeting could not come soon enough" said GM Chad about his
last place Penguins, "If someone wants to drop 10 in my lap now for
Bolland or Timonen, we can get that out of the way before the meeting."
Several NHLP teams need serious points and the Winter Meeting is a time
to go after a point grab if you are out and in need. "Things are
very tight" said Muddy Capone, "But we have seen over the years how a
few big deals gets the ball rolling." Currently 7 of the 12 non-playoff teams are at least 15 points out of the playoffs.
---
Western Logjam
The NHLP's West is somewhat close at the top of the standings.
Five teams all within 2 points of each other, but only 17 points up on
9th place. "There is no room for error in the West" said Muddy
Capone, "Expect things to tighten slightly, with numerous teams battling
for the final playoff spots when the dust settles." The NHL season
has a long ways to go, but will be half over on January 7th, when half
the teams have played game 41.
---
Try 102
GM Jr in Dallas became the first team in league history to reach 100, ending a wicking month of December with 102 points. Henrik Sedin led the team with 22 points, followed by Parenteau 16, Spezza 15, Ray Whitney 15, Weber 13, Eberle 13, and Plekanec 8. This leaves GM Jr with the current best Big Team Night at 17, Big GM Night (3 Teams) and Big Team Month. The Big Team Week of 37 belongs to GM Shawn.
---
100 and ?
It seems all be a certainty GM Jr's Dallas Stars will be the first team
in NHLP history to reach 100 points in a month, but why stop there.
Dallas has everyone yet to play a game, with Spezza two more and the
Injured Weber sitting out his game, so still 7 full player games.
Needing just 4 points to accomplish the historical feat and the way the
team is playing, 105 isn't out of the question says Muddy Capone,
"Dallas just scored 6 points from 5 players last night, so 9 points in 7
player games seems very possible at this point." Heading into the
final two hockey nights of 2011 the Stars only have two players
currently in the playoffs on their NHL teams, the lowest of any NHLP
team except only Montreal (Marcel) who, although also in first in their
Conference, only has one current playoff player. "This is the last
time we will see this group together" says Muddy Capone, "With the
coming Waivers and Winter Meeting, GM Jr will be changing the NHLP
Standings and the NHLP Dallas Stars, but it will certainly be a December
the NHLP historians may never forget."
---
Dallas Eyes 1-Hundred
GM Jr heads into Wednesday Night in "Hockey Town" knowing he is just a
single point about from 89, a NHLP new record for points in a month.
Dallas, who suffered a set-back with Weber's concussion, still has 3
games from Henrik Sedin and Ray Whtiney this month, as well as two games
from everyone else, Spezza, Eberle, Plekanec and Parenteau. That
is a total of 14 player games, or 13 points at the teams overall current
pace. "Everything is bigger in Texas" stated GM Jr, "So we don't
just break records, we shatter them." Being 54 points clear of the
next team in the NHLP standings, it seems shattering things is coming
easy for this Star's team so far this NHLP season.
---
Big Team Month Record About to Fall
With the NHLP having called the official Big Team Month Record for one
team, 88 points, by GM Matt's Indianapolis Icemen in January or 2009, it
seems almost a certainty that GM Jr will own the record in just another
6 days. Jr's December has been incredible and sits at 82 points
already with 6 full nights of hockey to play. "Jr could get 100"
said Muddy Capone, "But surely 88 will fall over the Holidays. So
far Plekanec is low on the month with only 6 while everyone else has
double digits, led by Henrik Sedin's 16. The next highest month is
63 by GM Marcel in Montreal.
---
Schedules Page
Updated
With only two GM's to give their schedules, it has came down to only two
dates and is looking like the middle of January.
---
Colorado Look to Move Up
GM Chad said he is on the front of the list for a Waiver Swap with his
Feb 11th Waiver. "It is on a day of the week with hockey" said
Chad, "I have just been so busy, that is why my teams stink this year."
Well Colorado isn't the worst team of the year so far, that would belong
to New Orleans (Shawn) who has tonight's waiver, but Chad is still 28
points out. "I may actually have to make a trade" said Chad.
---
Capone Denies Insinuation
Muddy Capone went on the offensive, flat out denying a report that he
was instructed by his doctor, that he needed a new pair of shoes.
"I recently needed a pair of new Brake Shoes" said Capone, "That I had
done at the local 'Doctor Stop Quicker, Brakes, Mufflers, & Sports
Memorabilia Emporium', if
there could have been some confusion arising out of this, and me needing
new shoes, I apologize." Capone explained that even if he did need
a pair of shoes, "Hypothetically speaking", that New Orleans recent
hefty fine, "Would not pay for that pair of shoes. For anyone to
insinuate otherwise is absurd and ludicrous." Capone finished up
by saying that he "Wins enough playing cards against GM Shawn, and his
prior book investments" to pay for any pair of fancy shoes he has ever
worn.
---
(2 For 2 + 2) x 2
GM Shawn got his pick in, with an apology to the NHLP Yearbook, "I
thought I had sent it in earlier before I went out for a sleigh-ride"
stated Shawn, obviously not in New Orleans at the moment. What was
received was a 2-2, dropping Seabrook and Knuble and adding Brodziak and
Ennis, in the league money-making Waiver. "The sad thing about all
this" stated Muddy Capone, "Is New Orleans has no chance of turning a
profit this season." The Wolverines are only 43 out of a playoff
spot, but points are hard to come by this season as there will be very
few blockbusters under this current format, one the NHLP is clearly
looking more closely at for next season. "Nobody has any outs"
stated GM Jr, "So GM's in the East and West, aren't going to give points
to the Central if
their teams in a battle for eight, likely anywhere from 5th to 12th."
There will be a few low teams getting points, but likely not every one
of them and being this far back for New Orleans, making the playoffs is
going to be a very tough job riding forward. "The snow on the
trees is always so beautiful to look at" Shawn added.
---
GM Scott Announces Team Slogans
While 33 other teams are thinking about
participating, GM Scott gets it done. "We thought it was a good
idea to express ourselves" said the long-time NHLP GM. "If you
stop by our GM pages, we want to subtly let you know you are in our
territory."
Edmonton,
Philadelphia
and San Fran
have their slogans up while the NHLP Yearbook is hoping other teams
chime in. For those who do, their teams season slogan will also
appear on that teams page.
---
Icemen - "Stamkos is Gone"
The Indianapolis Icemen (Matt) are planning on
moving Stamkos, along with Bertuzzi and Frolik ahead of their Waiver on
the 15th and are looking to make a trade within the league if possible.
Tampa Bay has fallen out of the playoffs, but Stamkos is one of the top
scorers in the NHL, leading the league in goals scored.
---
Devils Shopping Habs
Mike and Ray are trying to trade their 3 Montreal players, Cammalleri,
Subban and Gomez. "If the Habs come alive, and Markov will help,
the package could be a steal" stated Muddy Capone, "Regardless, GM
Marcel will be looking at this."
---
Stars of the Week
The Dallas Stars (Jr) are just in a league of their own.
Now 33points up on 2nd overall in the NHLP after another high scoring
week, this time 25 points. "All 7 players will have over 20 points
this week" stated Muddy Capone, "It is just insane how this team is
lighting it up." Parenteau led the teams weekly scoring with 6
points, Eberle added 5 and Whitney 4. Everyone was in on the act
with Sedin and Weber adding 3 to the total while two each went to
Plekanec and Spezza. In a very unlike GM Jr year, the Stars have
yet to miss a player game after 181 man games. Only GM Joel in
Carolina can say the same. Jr also had an amazing 64 points
between his three teams this week with Memphis 24 and Calgary 15.
---
Habs Add Doan
GM Marcel acquired Doan in a deal for Tanguay in Montreal. Ottawa
(Mike and Ray) had shopped Doan around the NHLP and were able to get a
point in the pre-waiver deal.
---
Nugent-Hopkins SENsational
GM's Mike and Ray just could not pass on the high scoring rookie with
their Waiver in Ottawa. In a 2-2, NH was added with Samuelsson for
Tanguay and Purcell.
---
Cincinnati Gets Big Boost
Mason Raymond is back and healthy. This is great news for the
Central's 11th place Cincinnati Rage who are 17 points out. "I
think we can trade in at any time with his low number" said GM Matt in
an interview with the leagues Muddy Capone, "That is why you take low
numbers on top teams." GM Andrew also benefits in the Central in
Chicago.
---
Hall for Yandle
GM Jr acquired Hall before dumping him in the Waiver, along with
Holmstrom, Demers and Morrison for 31 points down for 30 up. Up
came Kelly, Langkow, Langkow and Schizophrenia. "I think Jr is
going a little crazy up there in Calgary" said Muddy Capone, "We've
heard of the disease, but now the player!"
---
Eberle Back to Calgary
GM Jr, in Calgary, has acquired tonight's Waiver, plus Eberle
from Toronto (Chad) for three draft picks and Dupuis. GM Jr moves
up 5 points and Chad moves up 2 spots in each the 1st, 3rd and 5th
rounds in 2014/15. Jr now has the Waiver and surely will make
another points grab. It is safe to say All players in Calgary are
likely in play for trades within the league tonight.
Jr has sent out a league wide email. Officepools is update and he
still has one Dupuis.
---
Read This Twice: 5 Jets Gone!
GM Tyson made an aggressive Waiver pick, dropping his entire Jets roster
of 5 in a 59-59 Waiver. Tyson added Read, Read, Leddy, Vlasic and
Handzus, 5 playoff players for 5 non playoff players. "That is how
the Waivers are done right there" stated Muddy Capone, "That was an
awesome pick by a GM who just made his team into one of the top teams in
the NHLP." The high scoring Jets gone are Ladd, Ladd, Little,
Wheeler and Byfuglien.
---
Just 4 Games
It looks like it will have taken Sidney Crosby a total of just 4 games
played to get GM Ryan into a playoff spot in Green Bay. "We shot
out of last in a hurry" said GM Ryan tonight about his 10 point night,
three more by Sid. Kennedy also added three while Hall got two and
singles to Filppula and Sullivan. Green Bay is now 9th in the
West, only 5 out of 7th place.
---
Toews 17 For Month
GM Charlie got 5 more points for Toews, giving Miami 10 points tonight
and Toews 17 now for the month. "He did start a tad slow, but we
new he'd turn it on" said GM Charlie after yet another big night.
Callahan added 3 and Keith 2 for Charlie who is moving on up in the
Central.
---
Edmonton Gets Cake
GM Scott was totally in shock when he saw his NHLP Championship Edmonton
Oil cake that was "Made with love". "It was totally unexpected"
said GM Scott of the cake that was presented to him tonight, "I guess
they heard I didn't get a cake this year so they made me one from
scratch". The cake features in the center the "Stanley cup", as
well as "Scott smiling" above a "Hockey Stick". In red is the word
"Oil", wrote in a very sophisticated "Oil slickish" style and the words
"Go Scott" along the bottom of the cake. The butterscotch added a
nice Oilish look to the Championship cake.

Just in Case You MISSED IT!!!
I still can't believe this. The announcers could not stop
laughing. They were in shock. The horn sounded, players
celebrated.....wait. Did he miss that? To add insult to it,
they went "upstairs" to ensure the puck didn't go through the net
because they could not believe it either. OMG!!!
---
Back Seat to No One
With the events of the night, a 13 point night, his personal
best, by GM Tyson, was not the top news story. "We don't keep the
records that finely" stated Muddy Capone, "But surely tonight GM Tyson
set an all time NHLP record, we are sure of it." What record is
that Mr. Capone? "Cleveland had 8 points in the first period
tonight. How can that not be an NHLP record?" It was pretty
amazing for those paying attention. Cleveland started strong and had 8
points after just Winnipeg's first period, meaning two more periods in
that game (of 5 players) and Malkin and Kessel to play later, to hit the
12 point mark. The writing was on the wall for a career night, but
it could have been the biggest night in history says Muddy Capone.
"I knew right then this was huge. If just Ladd got two more
points, Tyson would have 12 and Malkin and Kessel could easily get 5,
making 17." What did occur was Tyson had 11 at the end of the
Winnipeg Jets game and Kessel added two, while Malkin was shutout for
final of 13. How big is 13 points? "In the history of the
league, GM Jr is the only GM to ever have two 13+ point nights" stated
Capone, "So Tyson is now in a very elite group of only 10 GM's to ever
have 13 or more in a night." For the record, Byfuglien led the way
with 3 while 5 other players had two point nights including Ladd, Ladd,
Little, Wheeler and Kessel while Malkin, yes Malkin, was shutout.
Tyson's three teams combined for 21 on the night, one point shy of GM
Jr's 22 point night for 3 teams. Cleveland already hit 10 points
in a night earlier this season.
---
Year's First Big Deal
GM's Andrew and Jr only made one deal all last season, but it didn't
come near the excitement in the NHLP as the one they made tonight.
"This was a big deal" stated NHLP historian Muddy Capone, "Great to see
to experienced GM's come together and get one done for a change."
Capone has stated numerous times in recent years that the veteran GM's
don't deal as much between themselves in what he calls the "Getting
fucked" theory. "If Andrew offers Jr a deal, Jr must be getting
fucked, or why would Andrew offer it" Capone explains. "Why in the
world would GM Scott offer GM Jr a deal if he wasn't trying to fuck him
in some way?" Capone feels many deals that make sense are no
longer offered, which doesn't make any sense Capone explained, "If the
deal makes sense, there is no need to over analysis it. These guys
make as many bad deals as they do good, it clearly isn't one knows
something the other doesn't. It is all gut." Well that gut
feeling led GM Jr's Memphis Machine to offer Stastny, Doan, Grabovsky
and 9 points to GM Andrew's Chicago Blackhawks for Franzen, Hemsky and
Bertuzzi, something GM Andrew thought made sense for both GM's. "I
was happy Jr and I could deal again" said Andrew, "I love to deal with
guys who know what they want and are confident in making an offer."
---
My My - Not Good News
GM Chad isn't having the best season, with two of his three teams
sitting out of the players. Well now, it good a little worse.
Tyler Myers, on Toronto, Chad's 6th place Central team will be out for a
month with a broken wrist.
GM Chad was not happy with the Doctor when he got
the news, "If you think you can make my season any worse, go
ahead, take a shot."
---
Handzus Newest Coyote
HE'S ALIVE! HE'S ALIVE! GM Charlie made his first
transaction of the season, the last NHLP GM to do so. In an injury
pick, Samuelsson was dropped for Handzus.
---
Ted Nugent Anthony Hopkins
He did have a 6 point night, only they took the 6th point from him.
"We have not seen this since Mario" said an excited GM Jr, "Why couldn't
this happen when I had the waiver?" Jr went on to say that he
doubted, Crosby or Ovechkin, put up 6 points in a game as a rookie, and
if they did, or didn't, isn't the point. It is Nugent-Hopkins is a
special one to even be mentioned with those names, this early in his
career. Ending the night with 19 points, someone GM Andrew could
still pick twice, for a 10 point gain, N-H (as we aren't fucking typing
Nugent-Hopkins for the next 15 years) seems to be well on his way to
signing his first NHLP contract in a very short time.
---
Loophole
GM Andrew found a Loophole and scored big because of it with Saturday's
Waiver. "He could have found two of them even" said Muddy Capone
about Andrew's catch in Chicago. Lupul had a big four point night
and was one of the players Andrew added in his 4-4, others included
Pronger, Selanne and Raymond. "All in all it was a great Waiver"
said Andrew. Dropped were recently added Stastny and Doan as well
as both Jokinen's.
---
27 Big Ones
GM Tyson was able to hit 27 points this week in Cleveland, shy of
the ever elusive 30. A well balanced week lead by Kessel and
Byfuglien's 5, four points by each Ladd, Little and Ladd, three by
Wheeler and Malkin added the final two. Cleveland started the week
in 8th and ended it in 4th in the Central, only 6 points out of second.
Cleveland also has a Waiver on Friday. GM Joel hit 28 in
October in Vancouver for the season's best week.
---
Chicago Looking To Deal - Stastny
GM Andrew sent out a press release stating that Bertuzzi is back and
played today for the winning Red Wings. "He is a good addition,
but I will have to drop him in all likelihood" said Andrew, "So with him
being a zero to the minors, any points will be considered."
Rumored to also be moved are the Jokinen's. Andrew is on MSN,
taking text and emails all evening.
---
Ennis Replaced Twice
GM's Shawn and Scott both dropped Ennis today to the minors via the
injury rule. Shawn added Holmstrom and Scott added Rome.
---
No JOKinen
GM Andrew has said he is open to moves in Chicago
after acquiring Saturday's Waiver. "I am now entertaining deals"
Andrew said in a press release, "Don't be shocked if someone unexpected
moves." The Jokinen's are 22 points, with Hemsky and Bertuzzi
potential trading material as well. Bert is a minus three, having
missed 6 games with a contract 1, so a zero in a drop to the minors.
---
Hawk'ed
Cleveland (Tyson) decided 10 spots in the 4th round
was enough to push their Waiver back six days. "I'd might move it back
six more days for another 10 spots" GM Tyson stated. Chicago (Andrew)
now has Saturday's pick, after giving Next Friday's waiver and a 4th
round spot worth 10 spots in next years draft
---
Samuelsson Takes a Hit
The Hamilton Hitmen (Tyson), made an injury replacement pick for the
injured Samuelsson by adding Kennedy. "We know Tyler personally
and he is the kind of hard-nosed player we love" stated Tyson in his
email to the league, "Pittsburgh is eating up the East and we expect to
change our season around starting with this one pick." Kennedy has
looked solid when he has played, but has missed time with a concussion.
---
VlaSIC Night
One way to find yourself in the NHLP is to have a
career night when the scouts are watching. Vlasic had a 4 point
night, doubling his season output from 4 points in 15 games to 8 points
in 16, good enough to be the tail end of a 4-4 drop by Vancouver (Joel).
Also up were Stalberg, Pronger and Leddy (Two Hawks, a Flyer and a Shark
- nice) while dropped were Versteeg, Vermette, Palmeri and Campbell.
Three of the players dropped had been picked up Tuesday by GM Joel in a
points grab.
---
The Highs and Lows
GM Marcel got it done this year at the NHLP Draft. "I think I may
have had one of my best drafts ever" said Marcel two weeks ago, "All
three of my teams have 69 points today." Well, not much has
changed in two weeks, except his teams now have a hell of a lot more
points. Marcel's highest two teams, Florida (90) and Alaska (84)
are both in second place while Montreal leads the East with 80 points
for 254 points, compared with GM Ryan at 179 and GM Shawn at 178,
clearly the early going has been good to Marcel. Factor in 14
playoff players and Marcel is thinking of big things this season.
"I know what a good draft does, it happened in Florida when we won"
Marcel stated, "It just sets your year off in the right direction."
Well so far, that direction has been straight to the top of the NHLP
three Conferences in 2011/12
---
Oil Raise Banner
The Edmonton Oil raised their official NHLP Championship 2011 banner,
recognizing the team and players accomplishment in last years run to the
Cup. "This was my second winning team to have 3 defensemen on the
team" said GM Scott, "And defensemen have played key parts in all four
Cups we have won." Undoubtedly Edler and Boyle were instrumental
in the playoffs, where often the top NHL defensemen become extra
important, as they start playing 10 extra minutes per game, as well as
the full powerplay, when everything is magnified. Most every NHLP
Championship team ever had a defensemen on the team and GM Scott's Oil
will go down as one of the cups won on the strength of the back end.

Rules Reminders
---
Elite Number One
Selanne became the years first Elite player to be
dropped to the minors. GM Joel dropped the NHL veteran along with
MacArthur and the injured Visnovsky, dropping 23 points and added
Versteeg, Palmeri and Gregory Campbell, what looks like a 23-23 deal.
"Selanne is in the minors, but only there once" said Muddy Capone about
the Elite Player rule, "Elite players in the minors are still Elite
players and the NHLP will surely do what is necessary, likely in Player
Tracking to track Elite players now in the minors." Vancouver has
another Waiver on Thursday but if they use it, cannot pick Selanne or
the other two back up.
---
Back to Back
Thanks to a two for two deal made last season with
the NY Rangers (Charlie), GM Joel now has back to back waivers with no
need for them both. "Vermette and Visnovsky have been the weak
links there" says Muddy Capone, "But Selanne and Perry are not playoff
players and could factor in something bold." We just don't know
but all indications are one of the two waivers will be moved either
tonight or Thursday. Visnovsky is a zero in any drop on either
day.
---
Fishing Off The Jersey Shore
GM's Mike and Ray had had enough of the waiting game for Andy McDonald
to get better. It is a good thing too, as he is likely gone for
the season. New Jersey added Fisher as a replacement.

Rules RemindersI had Waivers on back to back nights with the same team (that part don't matter - same or different, just same GM). Whoever you drop the first night, you cannot pick up the second night. In my case it was 4 straight nights I picked, so players I dropped 4 nights early and each pick, I could not take any of those players, until one GM picks in-between.
First Night (Philly) I dropped Stephen Weiss (1) and Ruslan Fedotenko (1) (now dead to me in my streak) Night two (Edm)- Ales Kotalik (1) and Tyler Arnason (dead to me) Night three (Minny)- Paul Stastny (5), Steven Stamkos (3), Matt Cullen (2), Tomas Kaberle (1), Mike Fisher (1) and Kyle Okposo (1) (dead to me) Night four (Minny)- I wanted to take Paul Stastny for I really wanted him, but I could not take him even though it was the same team (Minny) picking. I dropped him and no GM had a Waiver to pick him up.
---
Cincinnati to "Clear House"
GM Matt has already advised the NHLP Yearbook that Burns,
Phaneuf, Connolly and Penner are heading to the minors and will be
traded before hand if the Rage can get points. Connolly is a minus
5 in a Waiver dump, or a zero to the minors, so he will be an attractive
player many NHLP GM's may be after. Burns and Phaneuf are playing
on top NHL teams with Phaneuf on pace for over 60 points this season.
"We expect the next few days to be full of deals" said GM Matt in his
email.
---
Rage Pay For Waiver
Green Bay (Ryan) says Waivers this season will be the most
expensive in recent memory. "I think this season they will be
valuable in the second half" said Ryan in an email, adding "Matt stepped
up and we were happy with his offer." Cincinnati gave two waivers,
this seasons and next season's Waiver and 12 spots in the second round
of next years draft. "It is very
seldom we see two waivers traded in one deal" stated Muddy Capone, "And
under league rules, one must be coming back the other way, which did."
---
The Knight Before
GM Ryan says he hopes to move Green Bay's Waiver, "The night before, so
I don't have to worry about it on the road Saturday." This means
Friday night, after that Ryan can only answer emails and it is pushing
it. "If I get a acceptable offer by Friday night, I will likely
take it, but so far only a minor offer has presented itself." A
look at the minors at this point in the season has it fairly stocked and
opportunities continue for GM's to grab valuable players before they dry
up later.
---
King Sullivan
Los Angeles (Andrew) traded Moulson to Quebec (Matt) for Sullivan in
what GM Andrew stated was a "Small Deal". Quebec added a point in
the deal, after making it known today Sullivan was heading to the
minors. "I just could not let that happen" stated Andrew, "How
could anyone just pass on him?"
---
Ward 7
GM Matt didn't waste time tonight with the waiver. "I didn't get
any responses for Setoguchi, so he is gone" stated Matt when he made his
2-2 pick in Quebec. In a 15-14 drop, Matt unloaded Setoguchi and
Moulson, adding J. Ward and M. Johansson. Clearly made thinks
highly of the Capitals.
---
Wise Move?
GM Scott hesitated at the NHLP Draft when he had the opportunity to pick
McDonald a second time, "He was the only player I didn't want twice,
because I knew." What did GM Scott know? "One more head hit
and he'd be Savard all over again." McDonald has had a run of
concussions and players having them, hit after hit often shut down for
long periods of time. "Look around" Scott continued, "Perron,
Mueller, Savard, Crosby, all missing over a year of hockey.
Picking guys with a history of concussions is dangerous enough once, but
twice, I am just asking for what I get." McDonald is no longer a
Titan, being replaced today by Wisniewski, giving the Titan 3 Columbus
Blue Jackets, already with Prospal and Bassard, "I didn't say that was a
wise move either" Scott said, shaking his head in disappointment.
---
GM Joel Asks Rule Question
If you do have any questions, fire them off when you have them. We
have came across most everything over the years and much of it is in the
site as examples. His question was about back to back waivers and
him dropping a player the first night that he then picks up the second,
on his same team. If you don't know that answer, it is further
down the page. It is rare now for the league to encounter
something different, which is a credit to 22 years in the making.
---
Parenteau Guidance
GM Jr is schooling a lot of GM's in the Central, as with the Waiver's
point grab, Dallas is now up 35 points on 5th place. "We are
really seeing something with this team" said Muddy Capone, "All but one
player has double digit points already." That is crazy considering
a number of NHLP teams still have players at zero and 4 NHLP teams don't
have one player at 10 points yet, including GM Jr's other team in
Calgary. This team is setting a pace and at some point this year
will have all kinds of points to throw around.
---
Remember The Injuries
If you drop a player who has not played his most recent game, he is a
penalty when dropped in the Waivers. If you have questions, ask.
Go to Player Tracking and find the players Contract. Go to
whatever site you use to determine that players game by game statistics.
Use the chart on the injury page, his contract and consecutive games
missed to determine your penalty. Remember that a player cannot be
below 0, so a player with two points and minus 4, is a zero if dropped,
not a -2.
Example:
Marcel has Alfredsson who missed his last 2 games. His Contract is
a 2, so the injury chart says a Contract 2, missing 2 games in a row, is
a minus 5 points. Alfie has 7, so if Marcel was to drop him under
these conditions, he is 2 points to the minors.
---
Fourth Waiver of the Year - Available
GM Ryan has offered up the Green Bay Waiver for
Saturday, November 12th. "I'd like to get a Waiver back plus
whatever else we can get with the best offer" said GM Ryan who is deer
hunting over those dates. With the minors relatively stacked,
there is no reason to believe Ryan cannot get a decent offer for just
the fourth Waiver of the year, on a Saturday night. The Yearbook
has asked Ryan via email when his deadline is for trading that waiver.
We'll report that right here when we have that answer.
---
GM Joel Eye's 30
GM has a legitimate shot to hit 30 points for the week tonight in
Vancouver, while GM Jr (Dallas), already with 25 this week, could still
make the number. Joel has 24 points this week already with Perry,
Selanne, Visnovsky, MacArthur and Vermette all playing Sunday, needing
only 6 points for the 30. Jr would need 5 points from Spezza and
Eberle, both players are smoking hot, so it is possible. The 30
point mark was not hit last season, the high being 28 of GM Matt who was
also the only GM to have 25+ in a week last season, twice. The
record for points in one week was 37 by GM Shawn.
---
Pac-Adams
Even GM Scott was shocked when he heard Pacioretty was playing, "We go
from he is avoiding surgery as the ligaments were not damaged, to
playing and getting 3 points in 48 hours." It did seem weird.
"Why not just report he got a scrap" said Muddy Capone, "Put a band-aid
on it and stop the drama."
---
Con Artist
GM Matt was happy to hear Connolly was playing Thursday night, but even
more happy to see who he was playing with. "I can't see how
Toronto can break up the first line, the hottest line in the league"
stated GM Matt, "But I hope they get a little hotter starting tonight."
Connolly was practicing Wednesday with Kessel and Lupul who have 24
points in 16 player games so far this season.
---
First To 50
It seems the Dallas Stars will be the first NHLP team out of the gates
to hit 50 points, with 6 players playing Thursday only needing 2 points.
"GM Jr hit pay dirt with Spezza" Muddy Capone sees it, "I don't think
scoring will
be the problem for the Stars this season, as is. The interesting
thing will be his Saturday, waiver in 9 days." The Stars have the
seasons second Waiver and have aggressively been trying to move up
waivers stated a source that has spoken to both GM's within the last
week. "Il ne font
pour une grande histoire" stated Montreal team reporter Jos Bleau
who went on to say, "Mκme
si elle est complθte conneries."
---
10 & 10
GM's Joel and Tyson both had Big Nights, scoring 10 point nights
in Vancouver and Cleveland. GM Joel was one off his career high of
11 points, one of four current NHLP GM's to still not taste an even
dozen in one night. Selanne led the way for GM Joel tonight with 3
points with two point nights to both Perry and Hartnell, while the final
three were singles by Neal, MacArthur and Vermette. This is GM Joel's
5th NHLP season. In only his third NHLP season, GM Tyson not only has
won a NHLP Championship, but he does have a 12 point night, something
that still eludes his fellow GM Chad, who has yet in 14 NHLP season to
have a 12 point night. Although it wasn't a 12 for Tyson tonight, it
was a nice double-digit night thanks to his 5 Winnipeg Jets who combined
for 8 of the 10, led by Wheelers three points.
---
Titan-Up Boys
GM Scott is going to have to get the best out of what is left, with
three players all seemingly long term injuries in San Fran. "It is
going to be a rocky road over the next 10 to 15 games" said GM Scott,
"Good thing we have the Waivers coming and we got off to a decent start.
The Titan are without McDonald who could be a long-term injury, after
missing all but 25 games last year with a concussion, Ennis who looks
like a good three weeks and now Pacioretty who did ligament damage, but
avoids surgery. There is no timetable on his return and with the
slow start of the Montreal Canadiens, GM Scott said "We'll make every
attempt we can to acquire a waiver to make a move. We don't sit
back and watch."
---
Montreal Thinks Waiver
GM Marcel has the NHLP's first waiver of the young season a week away
and now must seriously start thinking of using or moving it. "With
Alfredsson showing that his injury may be a recurring one, it is a good
chance GM Marcel is using it" stated Muddy Capone, "But that does mean a
GM can't get creative, taking the Habs unwanted players and moving them
themselves. We have seen some creative deals over the years and
the NHLP GM aggressive enough to think outside the box often fairs well
with the waivers." Hornqvist has also been a disappointment
without a point in 6 games. No official word from Marcel on what
his plans might be and who might be on the block, but we will share
anything we hear.
---
Knights Still in Fight
With 21 more player-games missed than 8 NHLP teams, who have yet have a
game lost yet this season, the Green Bay knights (Ryan) are doing quite
fine. The Knights are just 6 points out of a playoff spot in the
West, even though teams in front have played 15 to 18 more man games.
"You know Crosby is getting closer" Muddy Capone said, "And he will make
those 6 points up in his first 6 games, if he starts slow." All in
all, GM Ryan so far is anything but buried in Green Bay.
---
Caught One!
GM's Mike and Ray are at their limit again after Fisher has
returned from missing all previous games this season. "The GM's
had the option of unloading him early" said Muddy Capone, "But they
stuck with Fisher through his 7 game absence and stayed 4 points up on
9th place in the West in the process". Fisher recorded a point in
his first game back, "Giving him more points than a few players who have
played every game this season."
---
Destroyers in Rough Shape
As if Ennis not getting a point in 7 games was not enough, now he
is out indefinitely for the East's last place Halifax Destroyers
(Shawn). Ennis hurt his ankle and is considered week to week as he
joins Backes in the medical room for the NHLP Maritimes entry.
---
First CTR - Mid Week
After Tuesday's games the average team in the NHL will have played 5
games, meaning the years first CTR will be out. The CTR has
managed to pick numerous winning teams over the years with the secret
and time-tested, formula to determine the most powerful NHLP teams.
In the most recent years the CTR has mostly resembled GM Charlie, "Not
very strong come playoff time", with the Cup Winners Edmonton (12th) and
Cleveland (13th) on the Final Power Rankings list. "We did have
Dallas number 2 the year before that and Florida number 1 rounding out
the last four years, so we are 50-50" said a representative from the CTR
Rankings. Who will be the early favorites in the NHLP for the 2012
Championship, well, according to the CTR anyhow, we'll know mid-week
because as the Rep states, "No matter how poorly we pick, we are going
to share it with you anyhow."

Office Pools: What Are You Guys Doing?
Are we alone on this? Has Office Pools
regressed? Where is the printing of individual teams or
conferences? Where is the printing of the NHL scoring leaders?
If it is there, it works like crap with a date default of 2010!
Where is the "find a player" feature. You cannot change how it
looks in admin, so we are stuck with 'Games Back' and a decimal after a
players point total, when there should not be one. There isn't
even enough room for the team & GM names. It is junk, truly is.
I know we have traditionalist that like simple, but Office Pools isn't
even offering what they previously had. There has got to be better
sites. It must be time we serious think of moving on!
---
Walking, But Wounded
The list of walking wounded NHLP players is growing. The latest on
the list include Hemsky, Malkin, McDonald and Erat. Hemsky
(Chicago, Andrew & Memphis Jr) is to have an MRI to determine what is
wrong with his surgically repaired shoulder. Malkin's scoring
appears to be needed in Cleveland where GM Tyson's 5 Winnipeg Jets have
yet to get even a point in two games each. Malkin is experiencing
soreness on his rebuild need due to scarring. Erat continues to
miss time for GM's Charlie and Tyson.

Rage Without Connolly
GM Matt made it very clear with the NHLP Yearbook, "Connolly should have
been an injury pickup" the GM told the Yearbook.
Now Connolly is looking like he is long-term,
maybe many weeks he has announced. Connolly is also with Edmonton
(Scott) and neither team can do anything except suck it up and hope he
heals. "At this point I hope he misses a month" said the Oil GM,
"I'll take 5 points for him on November the third. He won't have
that many playing by then, not some fourth line has-been that would have
never been drafted into the NHLP had it not been for the addition of the
seventh player rule under the collective bargaining agreement." GM
Matt sees things different, "He was a good pick but I would have never
drafted him if I knew he was injured. We hope he makes it back for
he is first line power play material and GM's will be after him big time
if a player his caliber ever ended up in the minors.
I would have taken him as an Elite player but am
happy he slide to the 7th round.
He has some of the sickest moves of any
player in the NHL!"
(Sick moves start at 1:18 of
that Video "Oh my")
---
Oh No Not Again
The San Fran Titan (Scott) and New Jersey Devils (Mike and Ray)
are holding their breath after learning McDonald might have another
concussion. McDonald took a solid Elbow at the end of the second
period against Dallas but did play the entire third period before
heading back to St Louis to be evacuated while the rest of the team
heads on a long road trip our West. McDonald missed a good portion
of last season after a knee in the head and this would be a real set
back to be concussed again two years in a roll.
---
San Jose Sharks - "The Most Elite"
The
San Jose Sharks have 7 Elite players, two more than the next closest
team Chicago who sit alone in second with 5 Elite players.
Anaheim, Boston, Detroit, Los Angeles, Philadelphia, Pittsburgh,
Vancouver and Washington all have 4 Elite players while Edmonton,
Florida, Nashville, Ottawa, Phoenix and Winnipeg players may all be
drafted twice as none of those teams have any Elite players.

To-Knight Was Different - Crosby Cleared
What a difference a Knight makes! Sid the Kid
Crosby has been officially cleared to take contact in practices.
"As long as someone doesn't try taking his head off, this is a good
sign" stated GM Ryan when he heard the news in Green Bay. If all
goes well, this will certainly lead the way to Crosby back in the NHL.
---
Maybe Try the Green One
The Miami Surf (Charlie) have been trying everything to get on track,
because nothing is currently working. The Surf have 2 points after
15 player games and are last in the league and 7 points out of a playoff
spot in the Central. "I think the guys are just grabbing the board
a little to tightly right now" stated GM Charlie, "We have some great
players on this team just set to explode." The tides likely
will change for GM Charlie's Surf said Muddy Capone, "At 0.13 points per
game, the entire team is on pace for 74 points this season" adding "In
the Post-Draft ride home GM Charlie was thought to have possibly the
best draft of any GM this season." Right now though, maybe the
green one might not be a bad idea.
---
Knight After Knight - Same Story
The Green Bay Knights (Ryan) have been hearing the
same story night after night and the result still is the same; no
contact yet for Sidney Crosby. GM Ryan drafted Sid 4th overall in
this years draft knowing it was a risk but one he was willing to take.
In the early going the Knights have fallen into 11th place in the
Western Conference but only a point from a playoff spot. "No
panic" said GM Ryan, "I just need to stay close. I'd say it is a
great start with great news to be so close still." Many GM's felt
GM Ryan really pushed his luck rolling the dice so early. "If
Crosby gets cleared for contact in the next month, Ryan may look like a
genius" said 22 year NHLP reporter Muddy Capone, "It didn't work last
season for GM Matt taking Savard and that is always the risk is that he
will be shutdown, but the fact he is skating hard every day must be very
encouraging, even if the news isn't changing."
---
First Elite Injury
The New Jersey Devils (Mike & Ray) suffered the first Elite player
injury of the NHLP season. "It could have been much worse" said
Muddy Capone when TSN reported Cammalleri would only miss two weeks.
There was another report of two months, but the Yearbook has checked a
different source which also said two weeks. The Devils are third
in the East only two points out of first and Cammalleri is likely to
miss between 5 and 8 games.
---
Gaustad a Wolverine
GM Shawn took advantage of the NHLP rules and unloaded the injured
Penner. New Orleans was allowed to pick a replacement who only had
up to one point and Shawn did so adding the Buffalo Sabre Gaustad who
had a point in two games.
---
NHLP DRAFTED Injuries
Some guys have missed the first game(s) and GM's have to keep the player
or pick immediately for those players if they want replacements.
No excuses on you didn't have enough time as the season is moving and no
advantage is afforded GM's with injured players. An email has went
out and guys need replacements by 10 PM, giving everyone 12 full hours
notice.
Havlatt - Penner - Penner and Fisher!!!

GOOD LUCK EVERYONE!!!
The NHL Season is here and one GM will be the 2012 NHLP Champion about
270 days from now. Best of luck to everyone and here is hoping for
a very fun, memorable and eventful 22nd season.

Waivers Updated on GM Pages
All Waivers are updated on the GM pages along with players. Next
will be the correct draft positions for each of the following three
years.

Marcel Hosts Quick Draft
The NHLP Draft flew right by with GM's all home
very early. "It was a great event" said GM Andrew, happy with the
time and location, "Makes a big difference in travel time, home before
dark." The highlights of the event included GM Marcel taking
Ovechkin with the first pick and of course not only winning the first
Waiver pick of this season, but the first overall draft pick in 2014-15
(again). As always GM's Andrew and Chad were as far across the
room from each other as possible, seemingly not able to let go of their
rocky relationship. when asked about it GM Chad just blew it off,
even kind of a tad angrily by stating "What the hell are you talking
about?" Clearly the friction remains so we don't expect those two
hooking up on a deal again this season.

GM Joel's Canucks - Miss Cup by One
Game
The NHLP is always much too close to call. Any one point, series or
single game can affect who wins the NHLP Championship. On
the final day of this past NHL season, the very last game played
was Dallas in Minnesota. If Dallas wins, they are in the
NHL playoffs. If they lose, Chicago is in. By this
upset, GM Scott was powerful enough with Toews and Bolland now
playoff players to win round one and go on and win the Cup in
Edmonton. However, if Dallas had won that game, GM Scott
loses round one to Ottawa (Mike & Ray) and everything changes
after that. Joel's Vancouver team would have now been in
the NHLP finals with Daniel Sedin to play GM Charlie's NY
Rangers, who would have been left with no players. When
Daniel scored in the third period of Game Two, GM Joel would
have been the 2011 NHLP Champion. Just like that.
One game. One upset. One thing that should have happened,
that did not, that changed
everything.

This will be the second straight year the league has returned to
Marcel's since pre-lockout. The league will have ten to eleven
GM's in attendance with GM Tyson missing the draft and possibly GM Joel.
Draft time is 10 AM.

NHLP Divisions
For the most part we took your West most team and placed it in the West
and your East most team and put it in the East, leaving your Central
team. However it just didn't work the best for a few GM's and
teams. One was GM Joel with Carolina and Buffalo. Do you put
Buffalo in the East with the other New York based teams and close to
Hamilton or the Central closer to Toronto and Ottawa. GM Ryan,
even with Boston more East, it made sense to put the NY Islanders with
the Rangers and Devils. GM Scott has two West teams, Edmonton and
San Fran. It made sense to keep Edmonton with Calgary, Winnipeg
and Vancouver, so San Fran is in the Central.
---
2011-12 Highlights
-12 GMs with 3 Teams each.
-3 Conferences of 12 Teams Each Each GM is in each
Conference once
-Each Conference has 12 teams, all in one division,
with top 8 teams in each Conference making the playoffs
-Playoffs per Conference will be 1-8, 2-7, 3-6, 4-5
with high and low seeds playing until finals
-3 NHLP teams in finals, ranked 1 thru 3 (for
tiebreaking purposes) based on highest season ending points after penalty
deductions.
-Each team consists of 7 players
-Draft rounds 1 and 2 are players chosen once each
Elite Players (72 in total)
-Elite Players are only available in the NHLP once
each all season, so if they go to the minors, they are still only their once.
-Draft rounds 3,4,5,6 and 7 will be everyone else
drafted up to twice each. (Need to rate at least 162 players for the draft)
-New teams will be slotted into the Draft (on Draft
day) in positions 25 to 36 for this season and next two
-Waiver coin flip will take place (at the draft) to
determine waiver order this season (Starting 1 to 36 or 36 to 1)
-Waivers are based on original draft positions and
not draft order (as always)
-18 waivers per half, one per team, based on Top
Hockey Nights on the NHL schedule Starting November 1st to December
23rd and January 15th to March 7th (exactly one
month before season ends)
-Penalty Rule changed to within 2 Points
New Rule Change Deductions
for Non-Playoff Players
At the conclusion of the regular NHLP season
and to determine NHLP playoff seeding in each Conference, then as well as
playoff seeding of all 36 NHLP playoff teams, NHLP teams will be penalized for
points of non-playoff players. A non-playoff player will be considered a
player of any NHL team, that is not on a team that is at least within 2 POINTS
for 8th in the NHL standings (per NHL Conference) on the day of the
NHLP Trade Deadline meeting (after all Games ending the night before)
and also misses the NHL playoffs
(not within 2 points of the 1 thru 8 seeds and misses the playoffs). All
players on NHL teams at least within 2 points for 8th and higher in
the NHL standings (per NHL Conference) on the day of the NHLP Trade Deadline
meeting (after all Games ending the night before) are considered playoff players
regardless of their NHL teams final position in the standings. Each NHLP
team will be allowed to keep the points of their highest non-playoff player.
Each subsequent non-playoff player's points are deducted from the NHLP teams
total points in the standings and only then the top eight teams in order of
remaining points, after the deductions, are the 1-8 playoff seeds for that
Conference. This final point total of each NHLP playoff team, after the
deductions, will also be the points total used in determining the NHLP Playoff
seeding from 1 to 8 per Conference, which will remain the same throughout the
NHLP playoffs for the purposes of seeding.

BOG - "Barrie Island Buried"
The NHLP Board of Governors voted 3-0 with one
absentee against allowing the Barrie Island 1/2 Chance Stumblers to be
GM Joel's third NHLP team. "A logo might have helped" stated one
BOG closely tied to the graphics department, while yet another in the
economics development department said likely nothing could have saved
the team's faith, "After a five day season ticket drive the best they
could do was one season ticket holder, who stressed, he'd want a
discount with his Status Card." It is understandable that GM Joel
doesn't want to have a team in Las Vegas, with his hard stance against
gaming of any kind, but to "Barrie" a team was not the answer the BOG
felt. The BOG added that to aid in ending the non-sense of team
relocation, all GM's sending in unaccepted third teams, will find their
league entry doubled for each declined team. "I already added that
to GM Joel's entry" stated the GM who works in the accounting
department, "And because stumblers often miscalculate, that means twice
what everyone else will be paying, except Marcel who does actually have
a Status Card, and will only have an extra 3% added to his entry, about
$1.20." The league has not stated if the Hamilton Bulldogs will be
allowed to participate in the NHLP this season, but the Yearbook wonders
why the fine already? One BOG stated they were still "Awaiting GM
Tyson's third team choice." When asked about the absentee vote the
same BOG, who asked not to be named, would only say it was because "That
particular GM was still off fishing" adding, "Damned newbies!
Likely going to win Big Brother now." So far only 5 GM's have a
third team for the coming season.
---
A Third Team?
"It's excruciatingly slow" stated a GM close to the
process but who asked not to be named, "Getting anything out of GM's Jr,
Andrew and Shawn has been painful" when this Board of Governor was asked
about the rule changes for the upcoming season. "It does appear we
will be adding a team, a third team each, which ironically enough is
likely what the minority of the GM's wish for" stated this BOG. AT
some point over the next 30 days we do expect something a little bit
more concrete on what to expect in the 2011-2012 season.

Drury Follows Modano
The final playing player of the Millennium Cup (GM Chad, 2000, Colorado)
has retired. Chris Drury won his only cup that season, adding 14
points in 17 playoff games for Chad's first NHLP Championship. "It
was a wild ride that playoffs" said Chad, "He will always have a special
place in my heart". In 1999-2000 Drury had career high's in
assists in both the season with 47 and the playoffs with 10 and although
this was only Drury's second NHL season, his 67 points that season would
be only two off his career high of 69 in 2007 with Buffalo. Drury
follows right behind Modano, also a winner on that team, in a list of
NHLP Cup winners to retire since the end of last season. The
oldest Cup winning players are now Patrick Elias and Daniel Sedin who
both were on the 2001 Dallas Stars (Jr).
---
Meetings, Meetings, Meetings
The Board of Governors are about set to announce
potential changes for the upcoming NHLP season. It is not too late
to be heard from. Expect emails within two weeks with alterations.
Let us assure you, this wasn't easy!
---
Changes To NHLP Format?
The Board Of Governors are working on some changes based on last
years revamping of the NHLP. If you would like to see
certain things stay the same, change, or have any suggestions,
please email us with your thoughts. We cannot read minds.
What would you like to see different in the 2011-12 season?

Plans For 2011-12 Season?
As always the NHLP would like to ensure all GM's
are planning on coming back for the upcoming season. If you are
not planning on coming back, could you please let us know so we can make
replacement plans. The NHLP has a list of potential replacements
for the first time in years, even though no expansion is being planned
for the upcoming season.

Winning With Losers
GM's Edward, Jr (both Cups) and Scott this season, all won NHLP
Championships a little differ than most others, they won with
losers. Of 21 NHLP Championships only 4 teams have ever
won NHLP Cups without at least one player on the NHL's Stanley
Cup Team. "You'd think just having players in the finals
is enough" stated Muddy Capone, "But 17 NHLP Cup winners had a
player on the team that won, a very interesting stat." In
1991 GM Ed did not have a player of the NHL's Pittsburgh
Penguins who beat Minnesota, but Ed did have Brain Bellows of
the North Stars and that was enough. Both of GM Jr's Cups,
2001 & 2009 with Dallas were won with players who never got
their names on the NHL Holy Grail those years. In 2001 the
Avs beat the Devils and Jr only had Elias and Holik but no Avs.
In 2009 Jr's lack of a Penguin didn't matter much as his 4 Red
Wings won him the Cup that season. Finally this past
season, 2011 made the 'one years' winners, losers again (1991,
2001, 2011) as GM Scott's Edler will only go down as an NHLP
Champion for Scott and not for his Canucks. Every other
season the NHLP winning team had a player that also had his name
engraved on the Stanley Cup, so next year when building your
team, know if you don't nail it, the odds are really against
you, at least until 2021.

Tenth Season The Season?
GM Ryan reaches a milestone this coming season, his 10th season in the
NHLP. As far as longevity goes, this coming season will be:
GM Scott - 22nd year
GM's Jr & Marcel - 17th
GM Andrew - 16th
GM Chad - 14th
GM Charlie - 12th
GM Ryan - 10th
GM Shawn - 7th
GM Joel - 5th
GM Matt - 4th
GM's Tyson, Mike & Ray - 3rd
As far as Cup droughts went, GM Marcel didn't win his first Cup until
his 13th season, which is the longest a GM has gone without winning, or
between Cup wins. GM Charlie, who has confirmed he is coming back,
is entering year 12 without a Championship and GM Ryan will be at 10
complete years if he doesn't change that around this coming season.
"We have seven current GM's who will have over 10 years in the NHLP this
season, something we can be very proud of" stated GM Scott. Who's
Next? Of the 12 GM's in the NHLP half the GM's have yet to hoist
the Cup, but at 50%, any year you'd have to think that will change.
Is 2011-12 your season? GM Ryan is hoping it is a special 10th
anniversary.

They Are All Winners
Paul Kariya has joined a list of NHLP Champions who has retired
since the end of last season. Others on the list include
Doug Weight, Mark Recchi, Brian Rafalski and Mike Modano.
Kariya was the oldest NHLP Cup winner still active as all
players winning before the 1996 Cup and his teammates from
Hartford's (Andrew) 1997 Cup had all called it a career already.
"That was a very special year" stated GM Andrew about his first
NHLP Championship, "Kariya was a big part of that team."
That season Kariya ended with 99 points in just 69 games and his
1.43 points per game were his career best as were his 13 points
in the playoffs that year.
Mike Modano would have been the oldest Cup winner remaining in
the NHL, from the famous Millennium Cup of GM Chad's in Colorado
had he not packed it in for one more season. "Modano was
the backbone" stated GM Chad about his first Cup win that
season, "Bartecko & Zamuner, many forget did both chip in 2
points each in the first round that playoffs." Although
that is true and Claude Lemieux had 10 in 23 and Chris Drury 14
in 17, it was that Modano career high 23 playoff points that
powered the Avs to the NHLP Championship. Of course GM
Chad now has another NHLP distinction from that team as the new
Grandfather of the oldest Cup winners is now Chris Drury, with
all other previous winners of the Cup now officially retired.
More Champions Retire!
Doug Weight was a two-time NHLP Champion, winning
in 2001 in Dallas (Jr) and again in 2006 in Philadelphia (Scott).
Weight played big parts in both Cups including 1.10 points per game for
GM Jr's first Cup win in Dallas that season. Weight only had 6
points in 6 playoff games for Jr but in 2006 had a career high 16 in 23
games for the Cup winning Flyer. "It was Weight and Recchi that
playoffs" said GM Scott, "Sure Briere and Briere had 19 each, but it was
Weight and Recchi in the finals, with 16 points each that won it in the
end."
---
Mark Recchi had an outstanding NHL career but it
wasn't until 2006 with the Philadelphia Flyer (Scott) that Recchi
finally got his name on the NHLP's Holy Grail. "We gave 56 points
in a 3 for 3 deal late that season to acquire him" GM Scott recalls of
the largest "point-wise" NHLP deal in league history, "We felt Carolina
were going to go to the Cup and we decided having Recchi and Weight,
both traded that day to Carolina, was better than having just Eric
Staal." Mathieu Schneider was the third player to come over in the
deal with GM Ryan, all ending with their name on the NHLP Championship
when the Canes did in fact win the NHL Stanley Cup that playoffs.
As far as GM Scott's prediction that Weight and Recchi would outscore
Staal, he was right as they combined for 32 points compared with Staal's
unbelievable 28 point playoff performance and as a team the Flyer would
finish the playoffs with a mind blowing 84 points!
---
Brian Rafalski chipped in a big 14 playoff points
in 22 playoff games for what is argued to be the greatest NHLP team of
all time; the 2008 Florida Panthers (Marcel). "Can you find a weak
link on that team" asked Muddy Capone, "Because we still can't decide
who that might have been." Rafalski (55 season points -14
playoffs) was surrounded by big guns that season including Malkin
(106-22), Kovalev (84-11), Getzlaf (82-5), Brad Richards (62-15) and
Gionta (53-1). Those are season points of 442 and playoffs of 68
which are some of the NHLP's most amazing numbers in history for GM
Marcel's first, and to date, only NHLP Championship.

And in 2011 it was...
The NHLP Trading Deadline isn't always about the Blockbuster deals and
the big names. Often it is about getting that guy that no one else
really even sees, or knows of, adding him to put your team over the top.
Even if it only turns out that way! We can't say that these
players below put their NHLP Winning Teams over the top, but they were
players on the winning teams and many of them made a huge difference, a
few made 'the difference'. Although there isn't an unknown on
every team (like Florida, GM Marcel, in 2008, maybe the best NHLP team
in history), almost every single season there has been at least one
player with his name on the NHLP Cup that will likely never get a single
vote to be in the Hockey Hall of Fame. (I had to add two guys to a
few years for I was so torn)
1990 - Petr Klima
1991 - Bob Probert, Kevin Hatcher
1992 - James Patrick, Ulf Dahlen
1993 - Glen Wesley
1994 - Oleg Petrov
1995 - Sylvain Cote
