NHLP Cup Threat Ratings For 2009/10 (After Transaction #50 and 35 NHL Games/avg. (43% of the NHL Regular Season)

The NHLP has always came out with the Cup Threat Rating (CTR) a couple times a year.  The CTR is also known as the Power Rankings in the NHLP.  It is a time perfected, skill based, best prediction of what teams are the best and what teams have the best chance of winning it all.  It is very accurate.  Like last year it predicted Las Vegas and Dallas as being the two best NHLP teams and of course Dallas beat Las Vegas in the NHLP finals.  Nailing Florida the year before as NHLP winners and many winners over the years.  The CTR really does work.  It isn't a perfect science, but it is not a guess either.  If you are near the top, you have a good team and a shot at winning, near the bottom, a bad team with little hope as is.  The nice thing is you have the power to change your teams position at any time.  This will be on-going and ever changing all year.  How it works - Teams will move up and down based on their Transactions, NHLP Standings (Points back or points to give), Players Points,  Depth Charts, PP Time on the ice and mainly the NHL standings.  You may not like the teams seeded 1st in each Conference to win it all, but the CTR does not go by gut feelings, only 100% statistics.  It holds truest when there are no upsets (but when is that?).  This is the NHLP Power Rankings.

Notes
1 1801 (L20 - 804) Matt

(West - Northwest)
The position is here to make this team stay number one if done right.  Thornton is NHLP MVP right now.  Smoking hot!
2 1784 (H1 - 1861, L21 - 713) Ryan

(East - Northeast)
Just an awesome team.  Only 4 points clear of 5th so there is plenty of pressure from behind but this team is just too good not to pull away.  Great job GM Ryan!
1722 (H3 - 1930, L4 - 1385) Jr

(West - Central)
Great team lead by Crosby.  All kinds of position and 6 playoff players.  This team can flat out score.
4 1651 (H4 - 1754, L11 - 972) Henry

(East - Northeast)
A nice 6 playoff players and all kinds of position have GM Henry rocking in the Northeast.  Colorado has stayed strong and Stastny and Wolski have been fantastic.  Heatley and Kopitar are great 1-2's.  Will be interesting to see this one unfold.
5 1600 (H2 - 1966, L6 - 1073) Ryan

(West - Southwest)
Three Sharks.  We do love this team and they have moved back up the CTR.  Position and Vermette means they can improve further still.
6 1559 (L22 - 702) Joel

(West - Southwest)
Flying high in the Southwest is nothing new here for GM Joel.  First place and Crosby with some good support.  Great position to make some offers.
7 1517 (H2 - 1854, L33 - 390) Scott

(East - Southeast)
Good position to work with and 6 playoff guys.  Boston has fallen but remain in the playoffs.
8 1486 (H6 - 1528, L5 - 1085) Michael & Ray

(West - Northwest)
About to take over first in the Northwest.  NHLP GM's have to love the fact Thornton and Malkin are on 1-2 teams here in the Northwest, as only one will eventually get through come playoff time.  This is a spectacular team and still has 3 players not even rated.
9 1465 (H4 - 1664, L17 - 810) Jr

(East - Atlantic)
Although 48 points up in the Atlantic, well in control, GM Jr just can't get healthy now.  Smyth is back right after Christmas, but now Zetterberg is out a couple weeks.  Adding to this is Detroit is playing well, but still out of the playoffs.  A crazy deal is all set here and it is likely to happen sooner than later.
10 1433 (H6 - 1586, L35 - 582) Scott

(East - Gulf)
Still the best team in the Gulf with 6 playoff guys all on top seeds.  Will have to make future moves after Miami trades Malkin.  May be able to get 4th place as it is a battle.  Top teams in the Gulf have all kinds of points but not the solid playoff teams just yet.
11 1400 (H1 - 2117, L35 - 367) Matt

(West - Central)
With Knuble back the climb has started again in the Central.  Only 9 back.  Washington players have dipped in the CTR rankings, as New Jersey and Pittsburgh are the top two teams from the east.
12 1282 (L34 - 629) Andrew

(East - Southeast)
Creeping up the CTR with 5 solid playoff guys.  Has the Southeast's highest scoring team so should be in first not to far out.  Both Richards are wild cards as both can be in or out, but both can score.
13 1269 (H3 - 1478, L14 - 913) Ryan

(West - Central)
Scoring at a great clip and 5 playoff guys.  Has 38 points to work with so Green Bay should be strong all year.
14 1234 (H8 - 1522, L34 - 437) Chad

(West - Southwest)
The three top teams in the Southwest are going to have some great battles before all is said and done.  GM Chad is in that group here as they team is solid.  Has the position to improve with 2 non playoff guys.
15 1227 (L33 - 440) Andrew

(West - Pacific)
A new season high again as the Kings climb here and in the NHL.  Daniel Sedin isn't rated so there is room to move up if Vancouver can get in.  Great position here and heading in the right direction as the bottom two teams here suck badly in the scoring department.  Waivers can really change a season around when done right as is proven here.
16 1166 (H1 - 1675, L36 - 410) Joel

(West - Northwest)
This team isn't that bad.  Has all kinds of room to play with still and 4 playoff guys.  Toews and Versteeg assure this team to be high all season.
17 1122 (H12 - 1264, L32 - 650) Charlie

(West - Pacific)
Top four scorers are in and Parise is just very solid.  Should continue to pull away until Portland (Chad) and San Diego (Mike and Ray) do something to help their poor scoring.
18 1112 (H2 - 1587) Tyson

(East - Gulf)
Sitting with 6 playoff players but is being chased for 4th spot.  Kopitar is the team leader as LA stays solid.  Iginla is doing what he does and Zajac's Devils are tops in the East.  Other than  maybe falling into 5th,  nothing here to panic about at all.
19 1068 (L43 - 187) Henry

(East - Gulf)
GM Henry has moved into his season high CTR here in New Orleans.  Still good position and the second highest scoring team in the division, so there is room to get better.  Kovalchuk and Atlanta remain strong and his 3 Sens are looking good.  Havlat is starting to score.
20 1064 (L34 - 370) Scott

(West - Pacific)
Sullivan is now an asset with Nashville's strong play.  Semin and Semin is the team here.  Good position to improve so you know the deals are being tossed around.
21 973 (L37 - 404) Charlie

(West - Southwest)
No team has benefited more than the Coyotes with the great play of Nashville, sitting here with Dumont and Arnott.  Backstrom is still the man as GM Charlie has a new CTR season high.
22 942 (L42 - 281) Marcel

(East - Gulf)
First place in the Gulf and up 48 points is all great stuff, but the leading scorer is a non playoff player and only 3 playoff guys exist.  Marcel has 82 non playoff points here and he got caught last season when he could do anything come the end of the season with the points and non playoff guys.  He has to watch it and not get caught again.
23 935 (H10 - 1106, L26 - 588) Jr

(East - Gulf)
Everything is good, but not great here.  Lots of position but the big gun, Henrik Sedin is still out and not being rated.  Many GM's are certain that will change, but we are 35 games in, almost half way.
24 930 (H14 - 1254, L39, 372) Michael & Ray

(East - Northeast)
Still 17 back and not scoring with a whopping amount of talent.  Kane, Elias and Langenbrunner will get numerous offers.  Only 21 out of 2nd, so can move up in a hurry.
25 799 (H13 - 1034, L34 - 569) Charlie

(East - Gulf)
The lack of scoring has finally caught up with GM Charlie and Miami is now 13 back of 5th and now 25 back of 3rd, where just last rating he was only 10 back of 3rd.  Malkin is the asset to change things on a dime, but what will he get in return is the question?
26 791 (L43 - 106) Tyson

(West - Central)
Hamilton continues to creep higher.  GM Tyson has 153 points and is only 3rd in the Central.  Not set for the playoffs by any means, but still with room to work with.  Gaborik is finally rated again.
27 750 (H13 - 1188, L38 - 333) Tyson

(East - Southeast)
Still only 9 out with Ovechkin.  Sharp doesn't appear to be leaving Chicago until after the season, which is great news.  Bottom half of this team will have to improve.
28 746 (H16 - 962, L33 - 611) Joel

(East - Atlantic)
A bit of an upward swing and this is without his two Vancouver players helping in the CTR as they are out of the playoffs.  Kovalchuk is a great asset as long as Atlanta stays in.  Over 20 points to work with doesn't hurt here at all.
29 720 (H10 - 1158, L35 - 512) Michael & Ray

(East - Atlantic)
The scoring woes continue here.  Toews remains the big asset with Roy attractive.  After that it is bleak big time.
30 700 (H2 - 1337, L36 - 347) Henry

(West - Pacific)
Only the 3 Sens are playoff players.  Good thing for the 27 points to work with to improve.  The Spezza injury really hurts.
31 667 (H16 - 1055, L46 - 124) Chad

(West - Pacific)
Chad isn't the 20+ back that the CTR predicted, but he is 6 back and fading.  The team does have 3 playoff players, so improvements through trading can occur but Philly, Briere and Giroux aren't desirable right now as the Flyers struggle.
32 656 (H22 - 853, L36 - 258) Chad

(East - Northeast)
Going through some injury problems as half the team is currently on the shelf, but is still tied for 4th.  Arnott has moved up nicely as Nashville is flying in the West.  Picked up hot scoring Dan Sexton of the Ducks who is filling in while Selanne and Lupul are out and he has 7 points in 8 games.
33 627 (H11 - 1084, L35 - 376) Henry

(West - Central)
Dumont is a pleasant surprise as Nashville climbs the standings.  Still only 2 playoff players and position isn't there anymore with Indy coming on strong.  Things will likely get worse here before they get better.
34 606 (H30 - 763, L41 - 290) Joel

(East - Southeast)
Lead by two non playoff players and only 9 points up on 5th.  Getting good mileage from Weber as Nashville is hot.
35 594 (H19 - 952, L45 - 156) Chad

(East - Southeast)
Things continue to get worst.  Not a lot of position to work with.  Iginla and Hejduk are no longer top 4 teams.
36 553 (L47 - -4 Jr

(West - Northwest)
Jr is creeping closer and is only 23 back of 4th.  Elias is a huge asset and Erat may never have more value as Nashville is totally dominating right now.  We still expect a big deal here and Jr can take on some deadbeats as he has good low numbers for the minors.
37 546 (H37 - 621, L47 - 130) Tyson

(West - Southwest)
Battling with GM Charlie for 4th.  Not much of a playoff team after Parise but that is nothing that an aggressive waiver can't cure.
38 506 (H15 - 1136) Andrew

(East - Atlantic)
Has hit a season low CTR.  Only 2 playoff players with Philly out.  Not a lot of points to work with.  Gagne back will help the scoring but an overhaul will be needed if Philly continues to remain out.
39 426 (H6 -1272, L41 - 367) Ryan

(East - Atlantic)
This team doesn't have much after the position.  Best player is currently on a team that is an 8th seed.  Has position to work with but not many assets as the standings go.
40 404 (H25 - 799, L40 - 248) Michael & Ray

(West - Pacific)
The Griffins have now became the NHLP's lowest scoring team.  To make matters worse they are 17 out and now without Zetterberg for a couple weeks so things are to get worse without change.  The assets are the only thing keeping this team afloat.
41 396 (H39 - 423, L47 - 55) Marcel

(West - Southwest)
Still with the lowest scoring team in the Southwest, but only 4 back of 4th.  Having no position to work with and 3 non playoff guys isn't helping.
42 391 (H19 - 882, L42 - 238) Marcel

(West - Northwest)
GM Marcel has ONLY 23 points to work with now and this team sucks!  It needs a lot of work to say the least.  85% of this teams scoring is non playoff players.  Hard to believe this team is even in 4th!
43 260 (H31 - 430, L45 - 51) Charlie

(East - Atlantic)
Things continue to suck in new York for Chuck.  Hossa has been ok, but not great as he has fallen off the point per game mark.  This isn't the worst scoring team in the Atlantic, but it is 19 back and full of injuries.  All indications are Hossa will likely have to be packaged at some point.  Let the auction begin!
44 172 (H7 - 1262, L46 - 90) Matt

(East - Northeast)
Gaborik is in, battling for 8th but GM Matt has his hands full of resistance in the very, very tight Northeast.  With only 2 playoff guys this team needs a lot of work, but has nothing as far as points to work with.
45 80 (H34 - 575) Marcel

(East - Northeast)
A season low for GM Marcel.  No position and one playoff player that likely no one wants.  Datsyuk is here, but where are the Red Wings?  Where is the team that won the cup then went to the finals last year?  This team is going to continue to fall as it can't score with the rest here.  Well that is if Toronto (Chad) was healthy - which he is not!
46  55 (H44 - 362) Andrew

(West - Central)
A CTR low now as things are not pretty.  Detroit remains unrated leaving only 1 playoff guy, Williams.  GM Andrew is 17 back with the lowest scoring team in the Central.  Good luck with this one!
47 -36 (H37 - 343, L48 - - -80) Matt

(East - Southeast)
What a mess!
48 -63 (H46 - 110, L48 - -150) Scott

(West - Northwest)
The Krejci deal and the waiver were a step back for the Oil, but the new found scoring may change the teams fortunes around, "It is do or die with Markov's health and his scoring" says Muddy Capone.

Notes -

Position refers to your NHLP standings.  Good position means you have points to give and potential to improve your playoff players on your team.

Position is ranked into the statistical formula above for the rankings, however, Position disappears from the ranking in the very end when the playoffs are decided and we predict the final cup favorites.  It might mean something now to have 50 points to give, so now we give you potential points so to speak.  If you do nothing with them, in the end, your standings and your 50 points mean nothing.

Fringe refers to your playoff players are near 6,7 and 8 spots, not great for the CTR, but still better than non playoffs which are useless.
