Highlights for 2022/23

GM Chad
We know GM Chad will be winning his fourth NHLP Championship, we just don't
know where. The GM's runs to the Cup have been incredibly exciting and
the NHLP Finals will be no different. Chad's Toronto Maple Leafs,
winners of the 2016 Cup, will try to win a second team Cup and knock off GM
Tyson's Cleveland Fury as the current last NHLP team to win two Cups, giving
the Leafs two Cups in an eight year span. Chad has a nice mix of Vegas
players in Eichel, Marchessault and Barbashev who have combined for rounds
of 10-23-17 for a total of 50 playoff points having played 17 playoff games
each this playoffs. Although Chad's three Leafs have outscored his
three Penguins 50-44 through three rounds, the Leafs are a 15-14 CTR
underdog in what is clearly a coin flip series. If the Leafs do win it
all, all seven players will be first time NHLP Champions. Chad's
fourth Cup will place him tied for third on the all-time list with GM Jr and
behind only GM's Andrew with six and Scott with five wins.
---
GM Chad
The 33rd NHLP Championship is GM Chad's, but will his Pittsburgh Penguins
win their first Cup or will it go to Chad's Leafs. The Pens are currently
one of 15 NHLP teams to never win a Cup. Chad could have a distinction
that only GM Andrew has if the Pens win. Winning a fourth team Cup all
on different teams. Although currently GM's own three franchises each,
Andrew won with Washington a team no longer in the league. Chad won
with Portland, a team he no longer operates. Chad brings about 15
points to the finals with his three Florida Panthers Barkov, Verhaeghe and
Verhaeghe. The three have had impressive rounds of 22-11-11 for a
total of 44 after each playing 16 playoff games apiece. Although none
of Chad's Pens have won Cups Verhaeghe and Compher are trying to become the
5th and 6th players to win a Cup for the second time while on the same team
the same year.
---
West Conference
GM Scott
GM Scott said it was a fun ride but with only Theodore he is about 11 points
away from competing for another Cup.
---
Central Conference Finals
vs
GM Joel vs. GM Chad
No NHLP team has a better shot at winning
the 2023 NHLP Championship, the league's 33rd Cup, than GM Chad's
Toronto Maple Leafs. Chad is chasing Cup win number four, having
the 00-7-16 Cups, known as 007 Sweet 16. Guess those all total 23, so
his fourth Cup won't be hard to recall in the mix should he win it.
Toronto won Chad's last Cup with his other wins in Colorado and
Portland. Unlike the other two NHLP Conference Finals, this isn't
a Walk-Over. GM Joel got here in Buffalo and although his
projected 10 points from Benn and Heiskanen would be enough many years,
Chad's Leafs are just too strong with 26 probable points. Joel
can't gain anywhere with the man-games and a remarkable run with two
teams in the final six, will come to an end. For Chad he is
assured a strong team, not the possible strongest which could come from
his other team in Pittsburgh, but Toronto has the most guarantees.
If Vegas goes to the Stanley Cup Chad moves forward Eichel, Marchessault
and Barbashev, about 13 points. He would move on another 13 points
from less bodies but Hintz and Heiskanen aren't slouches who would be
projected for 13. So either Vegas or Dallas winning, and playing
each other means one will win, GM Chad is set for a good finals.
Who can also bring 13?
---
East Conference Finals
vs
GM Chad vs. GM Joel
Barrie Island scored 85 points in
two playoff rounds but becomes a Conference Finals Walk-Over for a
strong GM Chad's Pittsburgh Penguins. The Pens are chasing their
first ever team Cup, Chad's fourth. We already know Chad's Maple
Leafs are going to the NHLP Finals in all certainty with about 13 points
when he gets there. What this means is for Pittsburgh to win a
Cup, Florida must knock out Carolina. That would give the Pens
Barkov, Verhaeghe and Verhaeghe in the finals who could get 17 between
them and Johnston could add a little cushion making the Pens a 20-13
point lead over Chad's Leafs. Chad would love nothing more than
this to happen. If Florida fails to make the Stanley Cup Finals,
we see no way Chad will bring his first Cup to Pittsburgh.
---
West Conference Finals
vs.
GM Scott vs. GM
Marcel
The NHLP's last Championship with just two teams in the
finals was the last Oil Cup win in 2011. That season the Oil had a two
player team of Edler and Boyle from round two on, managing to pull out a
NHLP Championship while scoring an all time low 41 points in the entire
playoffs. This season the Oil find themself the lowest scoring
team with 43 points through two rounds but a 15-0 Walk-Over of Alaska
(Marcel) will put Edmonton back in the Cup Finals. Back in 2011.
Edmonton won the Finals 2-0 over GM Chad's Toronto team. The best
the Oil can do this season is be an underdog in the NHLP Championship
with Pavelski and Jarvis, by CTR accounts a 13-11 dog. Edmonton is
attempting to be the first team in league history to record a third team
Cup with wins in 1992 and 2011. Scott's last Cup came in 2014 in
San Fran and the GM is going after his 6th Championship, tying GM Andrew
who sits alone atop the all-time winners list. Edmonton is a long
shot needing a perfect Dallas-Carolina NHL Finals where he could then
have a realistic shot in what potentially could be a crazy finish to the
2023 NHLP Season.
---
---
Blackhawks Looking to Skewer Sabres
The NHLP Yearbook wasn't giving GM Andrew much a chance, predicting his Chicago
team would go down by about 8 points. A massive amount to be an underdog
for anyone who has followed the NHLP for decades. One thing the Yearbook
should know by now, is never count Andrew out. With Nugent-Hopkins taking
the ice Saturday, Andrew can take the lead in the series that is now tied 4-4
with but RNH to play a game two. Now Chicago did choose to select the
Toronto tie-breaker, meaning Joel would advance if things knotted up if the
Leafs don't have a comeback. If Andrew can pull this out, and the Oilers
win suddenly he would be the favorite to go to the NHLP Finals if Dallas wins,
or a Walk-Over if Chad can't bring a player through in Toronto. We didn't
see this one coming, but that is on us. Andrew is alive and well in
Chicago.
---
Central Conference Sees Red?
With GM Joel in Buffalo back in control and without a single player currently
moving on, GM Chad can see a potential Walk Over to the NHLP Championship.
The issue is, if Vegas loses game three Monday night, Chad's Leafs are also
without a player moving forward. "To have two teams without a player in
the Conference Finals is an insane thought" stated Muddy Capone, "It has only
ever happened one time in 33 years." Although no NHLP Finals ever has been
player-less, in 1993 GM's Leo and Norman both battled in the Semi-Finals without
a player, a true pick series. St. John's (Leo) made the pick and won the
series, advancing to the NHLP Finals where without a player the Cup was won 4-0
by St Louis (Norman) for his first Cup. Since that season the NHLP has
never had a series without a player which as is and without Vegas, there would
not be any. Now, certainly with Nugent-Hopkins, Chicago (Andrew) isn't out
yet, only down 11-7 (without the breaker) but his work is cut out for him.
Chad's must get someone through and Vegas right now has that best chance.
---
GM Marcel vs. GM Charlie
GM Marcel will easily move on to the Conference Finals in the West being a 19-4
point favorite over GM Charlie who really needed Tampa, LA or Boston to have any
hope here. On paper Marcel should match up with GM Scott\'s Oilers but if
Pavelski and Theodore aren't playing, it would be Seattle. If Marcel were
to play Scott it is easy to see, with the teams having same players from same
teams, the Attack must have Toronto moving on where suddenly Rielly could play a
big roll next round. If Marcel is going to win a Cup in Alaska he will
need the Devils players Hischier and Meier moving on even if it will create a
tough series if he plays Edmonton for it is very unlikely Rielly and Gourde can
match up and win Marcel a Cup. If GM Shawn pulls it off, Marcel will look
great if his Devils are playing and Edmonton knocks off Vegas. Either way,
for now, Go Devils and Go Leafs.
---
If This, That and the Other Thing all Happen
Hey, GM Scott knows it doesn't have to be pretty to win a NHLP Championship, you
just have to win. With his Oil up 15-4 and back in control versus Seattle
(Shawn) the GM can't help but look for his path, however slim he thinks it might
be. "All I need is a sliver" the GM Stated, "If there is a crack, I know
the Oil can seep through it." For Edmonton that crack seems to be
complicated but plausible. The GM wants all colors to stay as they are and
Edmonton moving on. If that happens, the Central has no players and a
battle between Barrie Islands (Joel) and Pittsburgh (Chad) would be for who
represents the East Conference. "If Chad wins and Florida loses or Joel
wins and Edmonton loses at worst my hope is Seattle playing Carolina, or best
case Edmonton and Carolina with Pittsburgh and us in the finals." So
basically then if Scott is there, and Alaska (Marcel) will still have a say
about that, but Jarvis would be the only player left with all those things
happen. Unrealistic it is certainly not as Carolina could beat Florida
next round and Edmonton and Seattle wouldn't matter who won as long as Chad's
Florida guys knocked out Joel's Edmonton players even if Edmonton moved on.
So what you are saying is, Edmonton has a chance...
---
Penguins, Panthers and Rats
GM Chad loves is animals. With the Florida Panthers pushing Toronto into
an impossible comeback situation, only ever accomplished once in NHL history, we
ae feeling confident Chad's Pittsburgh Penguins will be moving forward with four
players in the Conference Finals. With the opponent Barrie Island (Joel)
Chad is a huge Vegas fan, eliminating any doubt of who goes to the Finals with
what would be a blowout Conference Finals. This Penguins team is so
powerful with his three Panthers, getting to the Finals with Florida still in,
would give Chad his fourth Cup. If however Edmonton moves on Chad might be
the favorite on paper, but wouldn't want to play Bouchard and Bouchard next
round with 14 points EACH in just 9 playoff games. Go Rats!
---
GM Joel vs. GM Andrew
It is a tall order to expect GM Andrew to be able to pull off an upset here.
The GM does have likely the best scoring player in Nugent-Hopkins and can hope
for a 7 game series between powers Vegas and Edmonton, but with Aho and
Gostisbehere matching up versus Hughes and Palat Andrew can't get a man game
advantage and is even a 9-7 underdog in that series. For Gm Joel it
certainly looks like he will face off in the Conference Finals versus GM Chad's
Toronto team who won't have second round issues. For Buffalo if he gets
past Andrew he will want for certain the Devils and Maple Leafs moving on.
Between Buffalo and Barrie Island have three of the four Leaf players left in
the playoffs. If Dallas was to fall to Seattle, it wouldn't really hurt
Joel's chances as he'd then matchup better next round against Chad, who he might
not be able to beat if both Dallas and Vegas move on. Joel's Cup chance go
way up if Vegas is out of the playoffs this round.
---
GM Chad vs. GM Bryce
Any hope GM Bryce had for a back to back Cup performance was lost with the
Bruins mighty fall from power. There isn't any real hope beating GM Chad's
Leafs who are a 25-7 favorite. Chad will need both Dallas and Vegas moving
on, meaning he will have at least 2 or 3 players in the NHLP Finals if he gets
past what appears to be Buffalo (Joel) next round. If Chad was to lose
either Dallas or Vegas, the team will then likely struggle to make the finals
unless Carolina beats New Jersey. If both Dallas and Vegas go out Toronto
will have no players remaining. If GM Shawn goes out in Seattle it would
appear Chad can win the Cup on either Dallas or Vegas in the Finals, but
certainly he'd have the best Vegas team remaining.
---
Fresh off an NHLP record scoring 56 first round points, GM Joel will cruise to the Conference Finals to play GM Chad. Those two GM's should meet in the Conference Finals in both the Central and East for spots in the Cup Finals. No team in the league remaining can match Joel's Toronto or Edmonton build teams, so those are the teams he will need moving forward. If Toronto moves on, Barrie Island will throttle GM Chad's Pittsburgh team next round regardless of the Oilers three players moving on. If Toronto loses to Florida, Barrie Island won't have any hope if Edmonton is not playing next round. Joel has the shot at winning the Cup and it rests on the Leafs and Oilers.
---
GM Scott vs. GM Chad
This matchup if it happened was going to be decided in game 7 of the Boston and
Florida series and we all know how that turned out. Credit goes to GM Chad
as he stayed loyal to the Panthers down the stretch when it appeared they might
not make the NHL playoffs and this team would have been a penalty out. Now
this team might be going to the NHLP Cup Finals. So we are certain Chad
will square off versus GM Joel's Barrie Island team. Without Florida going
all the way to the Finals, we just don't see Chad winning with his Pens.
If he gets Florida to knock out the Toronto Maple Leaf players Chad will look
good against Joel who at best would need his Oilers players. Chad will
walk right to the Cup if Florida and Vegas win this round. Chad put his
money where his mouth was and is within a realistic hope of winning his fourth
Cup.
---
GM Marcel vs.
---
GM Shawn vs. GM Scott
It appears this is the only NHLP Second Round series that might actually be a
battle. On paper GM Scott is a healthy 29-16 point favorite, if Pavelski
and Theodore player. Without them both that drops to 19-16. Now,
what is key to remember is that GM Shawn's four players outscored Scott's six
players 22-19 in round one. Seattle here can hope for a long series from
Vegas and Edmonton and a short Carolina and New Jersey series, which should
easily be enough to swing the series in the Storm's favor. If Shawn is to
advance to play GM Marcel's Alaska team in the West Conference Finals all he
truly needs is Vegas in or New Jersey out. Hopes for winning a Cup are
almost surely gone if Vegas goes out at any point. For GM Scott Jarvis
could come into play as he is the only Hurricanes player projected to be around
next round in the NHLP. However GM Scott is a big Devils fan and he
already knows his best shot at winning a Cup is if the Devils play Vegas for the
Stanley Cup if he can get there. That won't be easy getting by Seattle and
then a tough battle versus Alaska (Marcel). Scott's biggest concern might
be the health of his players starting with Pavelski tonight as every point will
be needed to beat a very tough Storm entry.

8-The Ties
a)
Regular season ties – When
two GMs are tied at the end of the regular season the tie is broke as
follows:
1) Most Playoff players of teams
tied
2) Most Points from only playoff
players of teams tied
3) Most Goals from only playoff
players of teams tied
4) Most Overall points on all a
GM’s teams of only playoff players from GM’s tied
11 - Penalties for not
Attending Meetings
11 (a) Any GM missing meetings
will now be fined according to the meeting missed as followed:
DRAFT - $25 added to entry fee
WINTER MEETING - $25 added to
entry fee. The GM is allowed to have another GM run
all his teams. This includes trades and using the
Minors.
TRADING DEADLINE- $50 added to
entry fee. In addition ONLY if the GM wants another
GM to run his teams, including using the Minors in their absence, they
are also hit with a penalty of losing their first Waiver the following
season or a combined 15 draft positions of their last team (or also
second last team) drafting in the first round of next year’s draft.
This is the GM’s choice which he surrenders.
If a GM decides to “let his teams go, or they are fine as they are”, not
using the Minors, the Waiver or Draft pick penalty does not apply.
Further notes: The furthest a GM can drop in
the first round is to 36th place (or to the end of the round
if the end is not 36th spot). However,
they might already be drafting 36th, or close to it.
If that is the case their second team also falls back, so as in
total a combined 15 spots in the first round between one, two or more
teams to reach the full penalty. If a GM drops, all
other GM’s would essentially move up one spot within those penalized 15
draft positions. If a Waiver is given up, 36 Waivers
will still be factored in, but the GM’s first Waiver will just be
skipped over on that date. A GM must inform the
league a month prior to the next seasons draft as to which they
surrender. By Default a GM not declaring will
surrender their first Waiver.

Landeskog Continues to Haunt GM Joel
With a loaded NHLP squad of
Landeskog, Rantanen, D. Toews, Kreider, Goodrow and Trocheck, five of
whom where in last seasons Conference Finals, it is understood how GM
Joel feels his NHLP Cup dreams were torn away by a single injury to
Landeskog last season. A year later, here we go again. With
the GM's Elite player, 24th overall, gone for three months in Vancouver
the GM knows he likely won't be able to make his team in the end around
Landeskog. It is pretty clear Landeskog will be part of the
2022-23 season's biggest trades when the day comes. "Elite
Colorado players aren't made available often" stated Muddy Capone
referring to the reigning Stanley Cup Champions who many GM's feel will
have a chance to repeat. If there is any good news for
Joel's Canucks it is St Louis (AJ) is also going through early season
injury issues. With two teams hurting early and points following
points, there is a good chance the NHLP's Pacific Division could be one
of the lower scoring divisions this season, usually meaning a division
of powerhouse teams if the top teams have points to build teams.
How it all plays out, no one ever knows, but looking into the early
season's crystal ball, Landeskog will be worth more than his Playboy
magazine collection later this season.

Black and Blue Hawks Should Heal Well
GM Andrew just lost both
Bertuzzi and Schmaltz, both between 4 and 8 weeks, but Muddy Capone
thinks Andrew will be just fine. "Early season injuries to non
star players are often a great benefit to teams" stated Capone, "Andrew
will have a good selection to choose from in a months time."
Bertuzzi will have to miss 12 and Schmaltz only 11, so the two players
with a single point will turn into 10 points when it is time to pick.
Where the injuries could hurt is if the player comes back in the last
game prior to being replaced, but often unless it is a star, the Minors
will look quite stalked with 5 point players, or better players
returning from injury that will out produce the injured players.
We see GM's drafting injured players in the later rounds of the draft,
for the sole purpose of using the NHLP Injury rule and replacing the
injured player. "By the time Andrew can pick, there will be some
sixth and seventh round drafted players still with a point or two"
Capone says, "But those GM's are stuck with their players." The
NHLP has had discussions of dropping the magical number 5 to as low as 2
or 3, but that has never gone further than discussions. So the
rules are there for everyone and it appears Andrew will be this year's
winner of the early season injury replacement picks.
---
GM AJ Suffers First NHLP Injury
Laine, the guy many were thinking
would hit 50 goals this season is out until mid November, a blow for GM
AJ in St. Louis. The Blues already without Mikheyev for as far as
the eye can see are going to put the rookie GM in a big hole early in
the season. "All teams go through this" says Muddy Capone, "But it
is a tough start for a first year GM". With Ovechkin the number
one pick for the Blues and off to a slow start with zero points in two
games, it appears the question is how far will AJ's Blues find
themselves back of the pack in a months time. GM Joel in Buffalo
also has Laine, the NHLP's first big injury of the young season.
----
Getzlaf, Subban
Won't Join Yashin
When two-time NHLP Cup winners Getzlaf and
Subban recently retired, so did their NHLP chances of joining Alexei Yashin as
the lone three-time winner of the NHLP's top award. When Getzlaf won his
first Cup with Portland (GM Chad) in 2007, his then teammate Joe Pavelski, now
becomes the NHLP player with the oldest Cup. Although many current NHLP
players have a shot to someday sit with Yashin there are currently only 9
two-time winners still in the game. Of those Joe Thornton (43) may be off
the list if he opts to retire. Of the other two-time winners (listed by
age) a few near the end of their playing days Joe Pavelski (38), Patrice
Bergeron (37), Alex Ovechkin (37), Jonathan Toews (34), David Perron (34), Craig
Smith (33), Drew Doughty (32), and John Klingberg (30). Will one of these
be on the Cup winning team this season and join Yashin? There is still
time for any of these NHLP legends to be in that special place Yashin has sat
alone and atop since his third Cup in 2004, winning three times in just seven
NHLP seasons with GM Andrew twice and the late-GM Leo, with three different
teams, Las Vegas, Chicago and Washington.

33rd NHLP Season Kicks Off with New GM
Muddy Capone is glad to be back
for yet another NHLP season. "It seems like just yesterday we started all
this and here we are, off again for a thirty-third time" said the President of
the NHLP's Yearbook. The NHLP's head office remains in-tack with Reginal
Cherry the VP of NHLP Affairs (no relation to Donald S. Cherry) and the leagues
one and only acting secretary Bonnie Anne Clyde. This off season saw
three-time NHLP Champion and 13 year veteran GM Tyson step aside. Taking
over the franchises in Cleveland, St Louis and Hamilton (yes GM Marcel, there is
a team in Hamilton) is a rookie GM AJ. With AJ coming highly recommended
by Ryan, who recomended GM Tyson before he won his three Cups, AJ might be a
threat in season one. Two NHLP GM's are entering special anniversary years
with GM Chadwick receiving his 25 year badge while we are only giving GM Matt a
sticker for his 15th season. "You have to earn those badges" stated
Capone, referencing the GMs dry spell. If Matt is on a dry spell then GM
Ryan must be lost in a Cinnamon Desert eating only flour, sugar and croutons.
"I hope Ryan isn't salty about that comment" Capone said laughing, "But when you
haven't won in 21 seasons we need to get out the chalk and chalk board to make a
long list of things that are dry for the coming season's articles." Capone
and his dry sense of humour will undoubtedly come up with a few more while
drinking his favorite dry-wine this winter. While AJ hopes to become the
third GM to win in his first year (Norm and Tyson) GM Bryce hopes to become only
the second NHLP GM to win in back to back seasons, only accomplished with the
'93 and '94 wins by GM Norman in St Louis. It should be a great season as
we race to find who will be the 33rd NHLP Cup Champion.

NHLP Waivers for 2022-23 Posted
With the NHL season starting October 7th, the first Waiver could not be until
November 7th and the final Waiver no later than March 13th with the season
ending April 13th. Between these dates December 23rd to the 31st were also
eliminated according to the Waiver rules for the Christmas Break. There
were 34 dates left over with 10 or more games, so the last two available dates
with 9 games were added according to the NHLP rule book. All Waivers fell
on Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday except four with two on Monday and one
Wednesday and one Friday Waiver. Three NHLP teams, Montreal, Chicago and
Halifax have two Waivers each while GM Marcel has the first Waiver in Montreal,
determined by the Super Bowl coin flip being Heads this season.

West Division
vs
Perfection?
There are still many ways in which GM Bryce might lose this seasons NHLP
Championship. Lots of scenarios where the Winter Hawks won't be the
favorites in the NHLP Championship if they even get there. There is a lot,
a REAL lot for GM Bryce to cheer for tonight. Firstly, although Copp
moving on might look good in color, but facing Los Angeles (Andrew) and holding
a 33-19 advantage might not be worth having 7 players next round. If the
Rangers win and he faces Alaska (Marcel) that might be better next round, but
might not be a good look facing Chicago (Andrew) in the Cup Finals where Kreider
and Strome could spell doom. Then there is the entire Dallas (Jr)
situation occurring tonight a team that can beat Portland in numerous ways.
So the perfect night tonight for Bryce is if Chicago (Andrew) wins with Carolina
moving on. Alaska winning would still leave Portland a 28-12 favorite next
round, destroying Both GMs Andrew and Jr's chances for a Cup in Chicago and
Dallas and virtually making Portland a favorite on almost all the remaining
combinations. Of course, Edmonton going to the Stanley Cup Finals is
likely enough all by itself, but lets get through the perfect night tonight
before we were about next round.
---
Pacific Division
vs
Right Teams - Wrong Conference
Both Alaska (Marcel) and Los Angeles (Andrew) have potentially good teams next
round with a Canes win tonight moving GM Marcel's Attack on about 12 points and
with a Rangers win GM Andrew's Kings out of nowhere about 19 Conference Finals
points. The only issue with Portland (Bryce) would have 28 versus Marcel
and 33 versus Andrew leaving either team here a huge underdog, but teams that
can score. Realistically here for us to use the word miracle in
association with what occurs next, the winner here must get his players through
tonight and then hope with a short Edmonton-Colorado series and even a McDavid
injury. That is best case. Worst case is this series is undecided,
so heading into game 7 tonight the Kings lead 12-11 with Panarin and Strome who
must match Svenchinikov and DeAngelo. A tie means Alaska wins. But
the winner must have his two players moving on. MUST. If the winner
gets his best team, well at least the next round is 0-0 heading into game one.
---
East Division
vs
Slim Cup Hopes Better Than None At All
GM Marcel needs a lot to go right in Montreal if he is the win the NHLP
Championship. Tonight's game 7 should not change if the Habs go to the
NHLP Finals or not. Without Carolina in, Kucherov would need a single
point to knock out Barrie Island (Joel). With Carolina, GM Marcel would
not have a player in the Championship and be a 13-6 point favorite for Kucherov
and Teravainen to dispose of Aho and send the CTR Cup predicted finalists to the
final three. If Marcel is hoping to win a Cup hoping for Chicago (Andrew)
to move on tonight makes everything so much easier. The best Marcel can
bring to the Finals is 5 to 8 CTR predicted points, although Kucherov can go
off, we all know that. That 8 points from Kucherov would mean Jr would
have at least 13 - Stamkos, Hagel, and Nugent-Hopkins or best case with Carolina
there versus Edmonton is 5-5 (Teravainen vs. Nugent-Hopkins), but if Edmonton is
there that would mean Portland (Bryce) would have 16 from McDavid and Hymen.
Bottom line, GM Marcel needs Chicago moving on, eliminating Dallas (Jr) and just
now having to deal with Bryce if the Rangers go tonight, which would mean
Chicago (Andrew) could at best in the end have Trocheck. If Marcel just
deals with Portland (Bryce) Kucherov versus Nichushkin, Lehkonen, Sergachev and
Paul is only a 12-8 underdog or better still Teravainen versus Nichushkin and
Lehkonen is a 7-5 disadvantage with Chicago getting 4 from Trocheck making the
NHLP Cup Finals a wide-open affair.

Atlantic Division
vs
Barrie Island's Cup Hopes Dashed?
GM Joel must have Aho alive next round or faces a Walk-Over by Montreal
(Marcel). With Aho the Stumblers will be around a 13-6 point underdog
versus Kucherov and Teravainen. Injuries can always occur and if either
those players get injured, Barrie Island could make the NHLP Championship.
Likely isn't going to happen, but won't for sure if Aho doesn't move on in game
7.

South Division
vs
Rage Cup Spot on Line in Game 7
We know GM Chad his nothing left. For GM Matt, there is a long shot hope
of making the NHLP Finals, but down 14-12, needs to gain three points from Domi
and Lafreniere, or just two if the Rangers win game 7. in those scenarios
the Rage win and player either Dallas (Jr) or Chicago (Andrew). Matt
tonight must also cheer for GM Andrew's Blackhawks to get two points from
Kreider, Strome and Trocheck. If that happens and the Hurricanes win game
7, if the Rage advance they would be a coin-flip to make the NHLP Finals.
One step at a time for Matt - a perfect three points and Canes win and who knows
what happens next.
---
North Division
vs
Rather Have the Points
For years GM Andrew has said he'd rather take the points and have the lead
heading into aa series to be decided in game 7, over having to have his players
score. We are not sure either GM likes their position. GM Jr's
Dallas Stars hold a 16-15 lead with the tie-breaker secured, meaning the only
way GM Andrew can move on is get a combined two points from Kreider, Strome and
Trocheck. Although not official in the South, it is possible if that
series holds the winner here receives a Walk-Over to the Finals with GM Chad's
Leafs not bringing a player through. Otherwise if GM Matt wins the South
in Cincinnati the winner here will be favorites versus either Domi or Lafreniere.
If Chicago wins they'd be about 11-3 or 4-3 favorites depending on the Rangers
or Canes respectively. For Jr he is moving on about 26 points next round,
so without doubt is going to the NHLP Finals where he is assured 1 to 4 players.
If the Rangers go to the Stanley Cup Finals to play Colorado, GM Andrew will
likely win the NHLP Championship here in Chicago. If the Finals is Tampa
Bay and Colorado, GM Jr's Stars would likely win the NHLP Championship. So
for one GM, the other is taking away a legitimate Cup opportunity. Andrew
says he'd rather have the points, being in Jr's shoes tonight. We will
know soon enough if the players or the lead moves their team in this battle for
potentially a Cup.
---
North Division
vs
Who's Stealing Who's Cup?
On the curface it doesn't appear GM Andrew is doing anything but playing a
spoiler, possibly taking away Jr's chance for a Cup and maybe making it much
easier for GM Bryce. However, maybe it is GM Jr who is taking the 7th Cup
away from Andrew. The Stars are winning 15-12 with the tie-breaker and
both Makar and Toews playing Parayko tonight. It Colorado wins, Chicago
will have the lone players remaining and would have to beat Dallas outright.
Those players remaining for the Blackhawks, Kreider, Strome and Trocheck could
still have 6 player games between them and all are due, over due, for big games.
The three have combined for a putrid 3 of 15 projected points this round.
If Andrew was to come back and the Rangers win games 6 and 7, the Blackhawks
would be favotires to be in the NHLP Finals where if the Rangers played Colorado
would be a coin flip with Bryce in Portland. So although all the talk is
about the Dallas Stars, and rightly so, as they are moving on an amazing team.
With a potential of 5 players and 26 points next round, the Stars have real
favorable matchups in the Finals. We know it is Andrew who can kill any
chance Jr has, but maybe it isn't Andrew playing the spoiler after all, but Jr
taking what could be yet another Cup from the all-time Cup leader.
---
East Division
vs
Blues Key to Habs Cup?
Lets be honest. This team has Kucherov, so GM Marcel can win the NHLP Cup
with Kuch alone. Although that might be a very long shot. For GM
Marcel adding in Thomas and O'Reilly or maybe best of all scenarios is those two
with Teravainen. So if the Stanley Cup Finals don't include St Louis, it
likely won't mean a second Cup for Marcel. "Friday night is a big night
and a Blues win is a must for Marcel" stated Muddy Capone. The CTR
predicted Montreal to go to the NHLP Finals, something surely now will happen.
The worse matchup Marcel can have next round is Kucherov and Teravainen versus
Aho. That is the worse. So the Habs are in the NHLP Finals, but if
it is Dallas (Jr) and Portland (Bryce) the NHLP Finals wouldn't be good with
either Colorado or Edmonton, so St Louis is looking almost like a must. If
GM Andrew comes back in Chicago and moves on, it is possible a Carolina-Colorado
Stanley Cup versus Portland could work for Marcel. Outside of those
things, Kucherov might just need to outscore four guys and we'd not bet against
that from happening in any round.

Pacific Division
vs
Attack Kane'd
With three points by Kane, GM Andrew took the lead in Los Angeles over the
Alaska Attack, up by two and down 0-3 with the tie-breaker (Florida). For
GM Marcel he needs that tie-breaker securely in his hands and if that happens it
also means the Kings lose half their team tonight with Ekblad, Giroux and
Bennett's round all finished. Those three out would also likely officially
kill any hope the Kings win the 2022 Cup. For Alaska, GM Marcel has as
good of shot as there is, just needing everything to hold and Calgary coming
back and taking out Edmonton, giving the Attack a 19-12 advantage over GM Bryce
in Portland next round. Marcel cannot half more Florida games or all Cup
hopes here won't matter for this team will never face the Winter Hawks next
round. Lots to play for in the Tampa-Florida game tonight.
---
North Division
vs
Stars Stammer Round in Jeopardy
At the start of their second round series, GM Andrew's Blackhawks already had a
four man game advantage. In a tight series GM Jr's Stars needed to turn
that into his advantage at some point. So far, not so. Stamkos who
has half the Stars 8 points along with Hagel and Weegar could play their final
round two games on Monday. The Hawks would lose Montour and Montour, a
trade off that Andrew would gladly take. Either GM at the moment is facing
a Walk-Over next round with Toronto (Chad) winning 9-6 and currently moving on
no one. Chicago has a one point advantage and if they can hold the lead,
go straight into the NHLP Finals even if likely no chance to win. "Andrew
won't come out and say it but he'd love nothing more than to take Jr's Cup hopes
away from him" stated Muddy Capone, "It is why we play, to beat the other guy."
In a bitter battle that has seen the GM's ruthlessly attack one another, with
Andrew making light of the series and Jr knowing Andrew can take the Cup away
from him right now. There is a lot yet to play this round and some big
players playing many games yet, but if Stamkos isn't one of them, GM Andrew's
job of knocking Dallas out will certainly been made easier.
---
East Division
vs
Habs Cup Hopes Still Very Real
GM Marcel is hanging on with a 9-5 lead that never seems safe when Johnny Hockey
has man games left on Kucherov, but it is a lead nonetheless. Currently
the Habs are bringing forward 13 points to an all out 15 if Barrie Island (Joel)
can advance his Flames and only 6 for the Stumblers otherwise. Marcel
could go to the Cup with Kucherov and even be favorites with other series as
they are and the Tampa Bay matchup with the west.
For GM Marcel he could still have two teams in the NHLP Finals and is living
large right now, hoping things continue to go his way. Today the Habs will
try and extend their lead and keep the Cup hopes alive.
---
Pacific Division
vs
Panthers Team Looked Deadly
This wouldn't be the first time GM Andrew was dead in the water and suddenly the
NHLP Cup is his. This guy has been there, done that. The Kings built
the best Florida team in the NHLP with Ekblad, Giroux and Bennett, around 14
points worth of players on any given round. The Kings find themselves down
4-2, but nothing that can't swing their way any game with Panarin, Kane and
Strome also playing with the three Florida players. If the Panthers, and
just the Panthers, roar back this series and move on, with the advancing players
in Portland (Bryce) Andrew would be a favorite next round 14-12 without the
Oilers moving on. Then Florida goes to the Cup and the Kings are presented
the trophy with little effort. This Panthers team looked deadly and still
can be Andrew's best shot at his 7th NHLP Championship. Seems they have to
win today and suddenly the Cats, and the Kings, can come back.
---
South Division
vs
GMs Walking on Tightrope
Both GM's Matt and Chad like what they see when they look North. GM
Andrew's Blackhawks beating Jr's Stars. Right now that is the only hope
for the South Division teams and even then, the margin for error isn't in
either's favor. The Leafs are up 8-5, currently moving on no one with
Toffoli and Andresson's series tied at one. The issue is if the Flames
move on, GM Andrew will also move forward another player, Gaudreau.
Beating Gaudreau might be asking too much. The Rage are in the same boat,
maybe just a tad better position. The Rage could do OK in a Domi-Trocheck
matchup. Where both GM's can improve their changes next round, is if
Florida can come back and beat Tampa Bay, possibly moving Chad into a heavy
favorite and not really hurting GM Matt. Bottom line is the Matchups don't
look good for either GM, but a little luck and maybe even an unforeseen injury
can change their fortunes immediately.
---
West Division
vs
First Timers Club
Two of the past three NHLP Championships have been won by first-time winners.
GM Shawn and Charlie have won two of the last three and GM Bryce is hoping to
make things 3 in the past 4. "It is no surprise to see what Bryce has done
in just three short seasons" stated Muddy Capone on the newest and youngest NHLP
GM. After just three seasons it appears the youngster may have mastered
the "Greatest Pool in the World". GMs know it takes time and few win so
quick, but it seems almost impossible to stop Portland this season. With a
huge Oilers win Friday the Winter Hawks are on cruise control, now up 12-3 over
a Storm that has been downgraded to a light breeze. As things stand today
Portland goes straight to the Cup Finals if they get the lowly Kings (Andrew)
who look like they could move on Kane who'd be no match for even just McDavid by
himself. However, if we are looking ahead at matchups Portland suddenly
must give some love to Alaska who could be a much tougher out with his two Canes
currently moving on. The young GM just continues to let his team do his
talking. Hanging onto McDavid when others thought it a bad move.
Picking up Paul while others sarcastically laughed at the move. Moves a
Champion makes. Is that Bryce? That is one bet we aren't going to
bet against.
---
North Division
vs
War of Words Turns Nasty
The NHLP has had its share of battles over the years. Some have became
personal. GM Andrew has found himself in the middle of a few with running
feuds with GM's Charlie and Matt, but none lasting longer than with that of GM
Chad. "It appears after a decade or so of just bitter nastiness between
the two, that it has finally died down somewhat" stated Muddy Capone, "The two
just couldn't be in the same room together, and litterly weren't for almost a
decade." Now Andrew is picking another battle, this time in a war of words
with GM Jr. Andrew recently hoped some horrible things would happen to
certain players of Jr's. The NHLP Yearbook read the comments but decided
what was actually stated is best no repeated. Up 7-5 Andrew can only sit
and watch on Saturday as the Stars send out Makar and Toews to try and take the
lead in what is becoming a battle for a potential Cup. Dallas has a
serious shot at winning a third team Cup and moving Jr within just a single Cup
of the all-time NHLP leader Andrew. We expect this battle to rage on with
both GMs wishing nothing but the worst for the others players. Another
decade long feud brewing? Who knows, but GM Andrew is slowly running out
of GMs to feud with. Least he loves GM Ryan!
---
vs
Savannah Ghost Pirates
It is no secret to anyone associated with the NHLP that GM Marcel has tried
unsuccessfully, but annually, to move the Alaska franchise to Hamilton.
"Marcel has always believed a second team in Hamilton would flourish" stated
Muddy Capone, "But the league isn't willing to make that move." It seems
that finally the GM might be willing to move the Attack somewhere else, with
rumors this years presentation included moving the team to Savannah. A
source not wanting to be named said Marcel did a good presentation and for the
first time in a decade may have got the attention of some NHLP executives.
As far as the Attack second round matchup, one of the biggest upsets in the last
decade is slowly taking shape. The Attack are leading 4-2 with the man
games sitting at 13-10 for the Kings (24-16 Kings to start the series), with
Byram the lone player today for the Attack. Alaska was a 14 point underdog
coming into the series. The Kings should have 10 points after game twos
are completed according to the CTR, and they have just 2. Five of the
Kings players are currently heading for four game sweeps. For GM Andrew
the Kings looked like maybe the team to beat, but his Panthers built team, an
expected 14 points has a single point through their first 6 man games.
Every point is going to be crucial and Marcel is hoping Byram can get into the
action in the lone game Saturday.
---
Atlantic Division
vs
Not 1/2 a Stumble Yet
There just isn't much change in the NHLP when it comes to franchises. The
Hurricanes of Carolina moved to Barrie Island in a long drawn out relocation
process. "If was years in the works" Stated Muddy Capone on the move, "But
it was one of the best decisions the league made." Barrie Island has
become one of the more successful NHLP franchises. With their second round
matchup versus the defending NHLP Champions, up 6-0, the 1/2 Chance Stumblers
have an opportunity of winning their first ever Championship on a finals of
Carolina and Calgary if things keep heading in the right direction. For
the GM, celebrating his 15th season in the league, it would be Joel's first
Championship. It seems likely Barrie Island is moving on and very likely
playing Montreal (Marcel) so matchups next round are going to be critical.
So far, so good.
---
vs
Kuch Getting Things Done
The start is what GM Marcel was hoping for. The Habs are up 6-3, not in
control by any means, but keep pressure on GM Andrew's Whalers. For Andrew
the Whalers must answer Friday with a 14-5 advantage with his 3 to 1 players
playing. With Marcel already getting extra games from his two Blues,
Calgary winning and the Rangers losing is only going to make an upset here all
the more unlikely. If Marcel maintains the lead here he is already looking
forward to the Conference Finals versus Barrie Island (Joel) and the Matchup to
not only put the Canadiens in the Finals, but win a Cup which is definitely a
possibility with today's snapshot.
---
Pacific Division
vs
Bloody Start for Kings
The Los Angeles Kings down 3-1, all red, and now losing in man games early.
Just a horrible start for GM Andrew. "GM Andrew is in playoff mode" said
Muddy Capone, "Just a bitchy attitude when things aren't going his way."
Well, Capone has been around, so he would know. Can you blame Andrew?
A huge 33-19 CTR favorite and the best built Panthers team remaining in the
playoffs, a team now down 2-0 heading into enemy territory. For GM Marcel
a big three point game from Tkachuk to start game one has given him a little
confidence. If the Attack can stretch the lead out Friday, in a three on
three player battle which favors the Kings 19-17 over the series, according to
the CTR, we might just see GM Andrew in a little more foul mood heading into the
weekend. Stay tune. Prepare to stay clear.
---
North Division
vs
Montour Unlikely Start Has Dallas Reeling Early
Montour got Chicago off to a great start, an early 2-1 lead. The
Blackhawks who have Montour and Montour, his single point, two for GM Andrew,
was enough to outscore Stamkos, Makar, Toews, Hagel and Weegar. Stammer
did point and Hagel missed an empty net, leaving Dallas in a big hole.
Andrew comes out with guns Gaudreau, Kreider, Strome and trocheck versus only
Nugent-Hopkins. This series could get ugly in a hurry if the Stars don't
keep it close Wednesday.
---
West Division
vs
Much More Than McDavid
Without Point and Marchment GM Shawn is in trouble in even a bigger than
expected way. With a 3-1 lead GM Bryce sends out McDavid, Copp and Hyman
versus no one to stretch the lead early. For the Winter Hawks having their
first four players in green, the writing is on the wall to the rest of the NHLP,
there may be no stopping the powerful Portland team. "McDavid is the icing
on the cake" stated Muddy Capone, "But this team can win with Tampa or
Colorado." That fact leaves the entire rest of the NHLP walking a very
thin line. It doesn't appear an upset is in the making here for Seattle,
so things are going to have to really go absolutely perfect for any other NHLP
team to win at this point. There is a long ways to go, but today's snap
shot of things looks pretty damn good for Bryce at this point. We know how
the NHLP changes on a dime but right now things are all going the way of GM
Bryce in Portland.
---
North Division
vs
You could argue everything has gone just about perfect so far for the two time
winning franchises. For GM Andrew his Blackhawks had 6 players play a game
7 and all 7 players moved on joining another "Hawks" team, Portland, with the
only 7 player teams remaining. Andrew is a 4 point favorite this round
over GM Jr in Dallas, so every player might have been important if the Hawks are
to win this round and maybe become the first ever NHLP team to win a third team
Cup. GM Jr narrowly escaped a late charge by GM Bryce, holding on to win a
35-34 first round battle and only losing the only player he was guaranteed to
lose. The Stars are vying to be the first team ever with three Cups, but
round two won't be easy. For Jr to overcome the CTR deficit longer series
in Tampa-Florida where Jr holds a 11-6 edge and Colorado-St Louis with a
predicted 12-3 edge will be musts. The Calgary-Edmonton series slightly
favors Andrew with this series decided on the 15-0 advantage the Blackhawks will
get from the NY Rangers and Carolina series. In that critical series
Kreider, Strome and Trocheck face no opposition. The series is calculated
at 6.5 games, so there is a change a 5 or even 6 game series tightens this
series. Dallas was a CTR finalist pick as Chicago was not predicted to get
out of round one.
---
South Division
vs
Both GM's Chad and Matt won battles in the first round with Toronto winning on
the home team picked tie-breaker. Both teams are down to 5 players each
making this a tight CTR 2 point advantage for Chad's Leafs. Neither team
is going to get anywhere with man-games in this series with only the Rage with
Domi and Lafreniere being uncontested. Chad's slim advantage comes in
Florida series and Calgary series 10-5 and 6-2 respectively. These teams
can compete with the second round stronger teams in the North and it will all
come down to matchups, yet to early to analyze.
---
Atlantic Division
vs
What could have been for the reining NHLP Champions in New York. GM
Charlie lost his top four scoring players in game 7s, leaving not much hope to
move on and compete. The Barrie Island 1/2 Chance Stumblers should put GM
Joel in the Conference Finals where with a Calgary advance just might have
enough to go to the Finals and even win it all with Calgary. If the Flames
can advance Joel will be hoping for they meet the Avalanche next round which at
worse case is a 13-9 underdog and best case a 9-8 favorite vs. GM Marcel's
Montreal team.
---
East Division
vs
GM Andrew advanced his Hartford Whalers in a 7th game overtime when
Gaudreau had to point or Hartford was out. That massive series, 39-38 left
Hamilton (Tyson) with presumably the highest scoring team ever in the first
round to lose. No team ever lost scoring 40 so 38 is likely the record.
Unlike had the Hitmen advanced, the Whalers are a serious underdog.
Montreal was a CTR Cup pick and with Kucherov still in, GM Marcel always has a
hope. It appears Montreal will face Barrie Island (Joel) next round.
After this round Marcel should have the best built Blues team remaining if both
move on. For Marcel Montreal could be unstoppable if the Blues win the
next two rounds, likely giving GM Marcel a shot at his second Cup win.
---
vs
Pacific Division
It appears GM's Marcel and Andrew are going to split their second round matches
with what should be blowouts each way. The Kings clearly have the best
Florida built team remaining but even the Panthers going all the way might not
be enough for a Kings second NHLP Cup win. Without Florida going all the
way Andrew could still do it with the Rangers and while both should be enough to
put the Kings in the Finals, one might not be enough. Alaska is a 14 point
underdog so this should be the end of the line for the Attack---
West Division
vs
The CTR has Portland (Bryce) a 5 point favorite with 16 uncontested points from
the Edmonton-Calgary series. Seattle (Shawn) gets that back 17-5 in the
battle of the Sunshine State, so man games in those two series can change the
outcome of this series and maybe the eventual NHLP Champion. The Storm appear to
have the best Tampa Bay team left, but it is a razor thin call if that is fact.
Is Point even going to play for the Storm, maybe making this series a blowout
without his predicted 5. For GM Bryce he has the real shot of winning his
first NHLP Championship, the second for Portland. GM Bryce took a lot of
heat for having points to give and hanging onto his Oilers, namely McDavid.
Was there a better option for a distance team available? Yes there was.
Did Bryce make the right call in keeping McDavid? Time will tell. If
the Oilers win and go to the Cup, there should be no realistic chance for anyone
to stop the Winter Hawks. Portland could even win if the Avs make it or
even Tampa, with teams with players on those teams possibly out this round,
namely Dallas (Jr). The league loves the underdog Cinderella story and GM
Bryce with his 7 man team and huge favorite to keep going is this years story so
far. Portland can have enough to win it all without McDavid based on what
happens elsewhere this round. However, if McDavid puts this team on his
back and goes further, if it happens, the newest NHLP GM might be a first time
Cup Champ to boot.

2021-22 Waivers Posted
The NHLP Waivers for the coming season are live. Excluding the NHLP's
Christmas Break, which states no Waivers from December 23rd to 31st, there were
35 nights of ten or more games, leaving only one night of nine games needed.
According to NHLP rules, that would be the last such night and turned into the
last Waiver of the season. GM Ryan has the first Waiver after the NHL
Trading Deadline March 21st. No Waiver may start for one month after
the season starts or one month prior to the seasons end, October 12th and April
29th. Only three Waivers are in February, with the NHL shutting down from
the 2nd to 23rd for the Olympics. All Waivers fall on Tuesday, Thursday or
Saturday except three with one Wednesday, Friday and Sunday. By month the
Waivers are broken down as follows:
November - 6
December - 9
January - 8
February - 3
March - 10
