GM Chad

We know GM Chad will be winning his fourth NHLP Championship, we just don't know where.  The GM's runs to the Cup have been incredibly exciting and the NHLP Finals will be no different.  Chad's Toronto Maple Leafs, winners of the 2016 Cup, will try to win a second team Cup and knock off GM Tyson's Cleveland Fury as the current last NHLP team to win two Cups, giving the Leafs two Cups in an eight year span.  Chad has a nice mix of Vegas players in Eichel, Marchessault and Barbashev who have combined for rounds of 10-23-17 for a total of 50 playoff points having played 17 playoff games each this playoffs.  Although Chad's three Leafs have outscored his three Penguins 50-44 through three rounds, the Leafs are a 15-14 CTR underdog in what is clearly a coin flip series.  If the Leafs do win it all, all seven players will be first time NHLP Champions.  Chad's fourth Cup will place him tied for third on the all-time list with GM Jr and behind only GM's Andrew with six and Scott with five wins.

---

GM Chad

The 33rd NHLP Championship is GM Chad's, but will his Pittsburgh Penguins win their first Cup or will it go to Chad's Leafs. The Pens are currently one of 15 NHLP teams to never win a Cup.  Chad could have a distinction that only GM Andrew has if the Pens win.  Winning a fourth team Cup all on different teams.  Although currently GM's own three franchises each, Andrew won with Washington a team no longer in the league.  Chad won with Portland, a team he no longer operates.  Chad brings about 15 points to the finals with his three Florida Panthers Barkov, Verhaeghe and Verhaeghe.  The three have had impressive rounds of 22-11-11 for a total of 44 after each playing 16 playoff games apiece.  Although none of Chad's Pens have won Cups Verhaeghe and Compher are trying to become the 5th and 6th players to win a Cup for the second time while on the same team the same year.

GM Scott

GM Scott said it was a fun ride but with only Theodore he is about 11 points away from competing for another Cup.

Central Conference Finals

vs

GM Joel vs. GM Chad

No NHLP team has a better shot at winning the 2023 NHLP Championship, the league's 33rd Cup, than GM Chad's Toronto Maple Leafs.  Chad is chasing Cup win number four, having the 00-7-16 Cups, known as 007 Sweet 16. Guess those all total 23, so his fourth Cup won't be hard to recall in the mix should he win it.  Toronto won Chad's last Cup with his other wins in Colorado and Portland.  Unlike the other two NHLP Conference Finals, this isn't a Walk-Over.  GM Joel got here in Buffalo and although his projected 10 points from Benn and Heiskanen would be enough many years, Chad's Leafs are just too strong with 26 probable points.  Joel can't gain anywhere with the man-games and a remarkable run with two teams in the final six, will come to an end.  For Chad he is assured a strong team, not the possible strongest which could come from his other team in Pittsburgh, but Toronto has the most guarantees.  If Vegas goes to the Stanley Cup Chad moves forward Eichel, Marchessault and Barbashev, about 13 points.  He would move on another 13 points from less bodies but Hintz and Heiskanen aren't slouches who would be projected for 13.  So either Vegas or Dallas winning, and playing each other means one will win, GM Chad is set for a good finals.  Who can also bring 13?

---

East Conference Finals

vs

GM Chad vs. GM Joel

Barrie Island scored 85 points in two playoff rounds but becomes a Conference Finals Walk-Over for a strong GM Chad's Pittsburgh Penguins.  The Pens are chasing their first ever team Cup, Chad's fourth.  We already know Chad's Maple Leafs are going to the NHLP Finals in all certainty with about 13 points when he gets there.  What this means is for Pittsburgh to win a Cup, Florida must knock out Carolina.  That would give the Pens Barkov, Verhaeghe and Verhaeghe in the finals who could get 17 between them and Johnston could add a little cushion making the Pens a 20-13 point lead over Chad's Leafs.  Chad would love nothing more than this to happen.  If Florida fails to make the Stanley Cup Finals, we see no way Chad will bring his first Cup to Pittsburgh.

---

West Conference Finals

vs.

GM Scott vs. GM Marcel

The NHLP's last Championship with just two teams in the finals was the last Oil Cup win in 2011. That season the Oil had a two player team of Edler and Boyle from round two on, managing to pull out a NHLP Championship while scoring an all time low 41 points in the entire playoffs.  This season the Oil find themself the lowest scoring team with 43 points through two rounds but a 15-0 Walk-Over of Alaska (Marcel) will put Edmonton back in the Cup Finals.  Back in 2011.  Edmonton won the Finals 2-0 over GM Chad's Toronto team.  The best the Oil can do this season is be an underdog in the NHLP Championship with Pavelski and Jarvis, by CTR accounts a 13-11 dog.  Edmonton is attempting to be the first team in league history to record a third team Cup with wins in 1992 and 2011.  Scott's last Cup came in 2014 in San Fran and the GM is going after his 6th Championship, tying GM Andrew who sits alone atop the all-time winners list.  Edmonton is a long shot needing a perfect Dallas-Carolina NHL Finals where he could then have a realistic shot in what potentially could be a crazy finish to the 2023 NHLP Season.

---

---

Blackhawks Looking to Skewer Sabres

The NHLP Yearbook wasn't giving GM Andrew much a chance, predicting his Chicago team would go down by about 8 points.  A massive amount to be an underdog for anyone who has followed the NHLP for decades.  One thing the Yearbook should know by now, is never count Andrew out.  With Nugent-Hopkins taking the ice Saturday, Andrew can take the lead in the series that is now tied 4-4 with but RNH to play a game two.  Now Chicago did choose to select the Toronto tie-breaker, meaning Joel would advance if things knotted up if the Leafs don't have a comeback.  If Andrew can pull this out, and the Oilers win suddenly he would be the favorite to go to the NHLP Finals if Dallas wins, or a Walk-Over if Chad can't bring a player through in Toronto.  We didn't see this one coming, but that is on us.  Andrew is alive and well in Chicago.

---

Central Conference Sees Red?

With GM Joel in Buffalo back in control and without a single player currently moving on, GM Chad can see a potential Walk Over to the NHLP Championship.  The issue is, if Vegas loses game three Monday night, Chad's Leafs are also without a player moving forward.  "To have two teams without a player in the Conference Finals is an insane thought" stated Muddy Capone, "It has only ever happened one time in 33 years."  Although no NHLP Finals ever has been player-less, in 1993 GM's Leo and Norman both battled in the Semi-Finals without a player, a true pick series.  St. John's (Leo) made the pick and won the series, advancing to the NHLP Finals where without a player the Cup was won 4-0 by St Louis (Norman) for his first Cup.  Since that season the NHLP has never had a series without a player which as is and without Vegas, there would not be any.  Now, certainly with Nugent-Hopkins, Chicago (Andrew) isn't out yet, only down 11-7 (without the breaker) but his work is cut out for him.  Chad's must get someone through and Vegas right now has that best chance.

---

GM Marcel vs. GM Charlie

GM Marcel will easily move on to the Conference Finals in the West being a 19-4 point favorite over GM Charlie who really needed Tampa, LA or Boston to have any hope here. On paper Marcel should match up with GM Scott\'s Oilers but if Pavelski and Theodore aren't playing, it would be Seattle.  If Marcel were to play Scott it is easy to see, with the teams having same players from same teams, the Attack must have Toronto moving on where suddenly Rielly could play a big roll next round.  If Marcel is going to win a Cup in Alaska he will need the Devils players Hischier and Meier moving on even if it will create a tough series if he plays Edmonton for it is very unlikely Rielly and Gourde can match up and win Marcel a Cup.  If GM Shawn pulls it off, Marcel will look great if his Devils are playing and Edmonton knocks off Vegas.  Either way, for now, Go Devils and Go Leafs.

---

If This, That and the Other Thing all Happen

Hey, GM Scott knows it doesn't have to be pretty to win a NHLP Championship, you just have to win.  With his Oil up 15-4 and back in control versus Seattle (Shawn) the GM can't help but look for his path, however slim he thinks it might be.  "All I need is a sliver" the GM Stated, "If there is a crack, I know the Oil can seep through it."  For Edmonton that crack seems to be complicated but plausible.  The GM wants all colors to stay as they are and Edmonton moving on.  If that happens, the Central has no players and a battle between Barrie Islands (Joel) and Pittsburgh (Chad) would be for who represents the East Conference.  "If Chad wins and Florida loses or Joel wins and Edmonton loses at worst my hope is Seattle playing Carolina, or best case Edmonton and Carolina with Pittsburgh and us in the finals."  So basically then if Scott is there, and Alaska (Marcel) will still have a say about that, but Jarvis would be the only player left with all those things happen.  Unrealistic it is certainly not as Carolina could beat Florida next round and Edmonton and Seattle wouldn't matter who won as long as Chad's Florida guys knocked out Joel's Edmonton players even if Edmonton moved on.  So what you are saying is, Edmonton has a chance...

---

Penguins, Panthers and Rats

GM Chad loves is animals.  With the Florida Panthers pushing Toronto into an impossible comeback situation, only ever accomplished once in NHL history, we ae feeling confident Chad's Pittsburgh Penguins will be moving forward with four players in the Conference Finals.  With the opponent Barrie Island (Joel) Chad is a huge Vegas fan, eliminating any doubt of who goes to the Finals with what would be a blowout Conference Finals.  This Penguins team is so powerful with his three Panthers, getting to the Finals with Florida still in, would give Chad his fourth Cup.  If however Edmonton moves on Chad might be the favorite on paper, but wouldn't want to play Bouchard and Bouchard next round with 14 points EACH in just 9 playoff games. Go Rats!

---

GM Joel vs. GM Andrew

It is a tall order to expect GM Andrew to be able to pull off an upset here.  The GM does have likely the best scoring player in Nugent-Hopkins and can hope for a 7 game series between powers Vegas and Edmonton, but with Aho and Gostisbehere matching up versus Hughes and Palat Andrew can't get a man game advantage and is even a 9-7 underdog in that series.  For Gm Joel it certainly looks like he will face off in the Conference Finals versus GM Chad's Toronto team who won't have second round issues.  For Buffalo if he gets past Andrew he will want for certain the Devils and Maple Leafs moving on.  Between Buffalo and Barrie Island have three of the four Leaf players left in the playoffs.  If Dallas was to fall to Seattle, it wouldn't really hurt Joel's chances as he'd then matchup better next round against Chad, who he might not be able to beat if both Dallas and Vegas move on.  Joel's Cup chance go way up if Vegas is out of the playoffs this round.

---

GM Chad vs. GM Bryce

Any hope GM Bryce had for a back to back Cup performance was lost with the Bruins mighty fall from power.  There isn't any real hope beating GM Chad's Leafs who are a 25-7 favorite.  Chad will need both Dallas and Vegas moving on, meaning he will have at least 2 or 3 players in the NHLP Finals if he gets past what appears to be Buffalo (Joel) next round.  If Chad was to lose either Dallas or Vegas, the team will then likely struggle to make the finals unless Carolina beats New Jersey.  If both Dallas and Vegas go out Toronto will have no players remaining.  If GM Shawn goes out in Seattle it would appear Chad can win the Cup on either Dallas or Vegas in the Finals, but certainly he'd have the best Vegas team remaining.

---

Fresh off an NHLP record scoring 56 first round points, GM Joel will cruise to the Conference Finals to play GM Chad.  Those two GM's should meet in the Conference Finals in both the Central and East for spots in the Cup Finals.  No team in the league remaining can match Joel's Toronto or Edmonton build teams, so those are the teams he will need moving forward.  If Toronto moves on, Barrie Island will throttle GM Chad's Pittsburgh team next round regardless of the Oilers three players moving on.  If Toronto loses to Florida, Barrie Island won't have any hope if Edmonton is not playing next round.  Joel has the shot at winning the Cup and it rests on the Leafs and Oilers.

---

GM Scott vs. GM Chad

This matchup if it happened was going to be decided in game 7 of the Boston and Florida series and we all know how that turned out.  Credit goes to GM Chad as he stayed loyal to the Panthers down the stretch when it appeared they might not make the NHL playoffs and this team would have been a penalty out.  Now this team might be going to the NHLP Cup Finals.  So we are certain Chad will square off versus GM Joel's Barrie Island team.  Without Florida going all the way to the Finals, we just don't see Chad winning with his Pens.  If he gets Florida to knock out the Toronto Maple Leaf players Chad will look good against Joel who at best would need his Oilers players.  Chad will walk right to the Cup if Florida and Vegas win this round.  Chad put his money where his mouth was and is within a realistic hope of winning his fourth Cup.

---

GM Shawn vs. GM Scott

It appears this is the only NHLP Second Round series that might actually be a battle.  On paper GM Scott is a healthy 29-16 point favorite, if Pavelski and Theodore player.  Without them both that drops to 19-16.  Now, what is key to remember is that GM Shawn's four players outscored Scott's six players 22-19 in round one.  Seattle here can hope for a long series from Vegas and Edmonton and a short Carolina and New Jersey series, which should easily be enough to swing the series in the Storm's favor.  If Shawn is to advance to play GM Marcel's Alaska team in the West Conference Finals all he truly needs is Vegas in or New Jersey out.  Hopes for winning a Cup are almost surely gone if Vegas goes out at any point.  For GM Scott Jarvis could come into play as he is the only Hurricanes player projected to be around next round in the NHLP.  However GM Scott is a big Devils fan and he already knows his best shot at winning a Cup is if the Devils play Vegas for the Stanley Cup if he can get there.  That won't be easy getting by Seattle and then a tough battle versus Alaska (Marcel).  Scott's biggest concern might be the health of his players starting with Pavelski tonight as every point will be needed to beat a very tough Storm entry.

Central - North

GM Joel - The Sabres have the inside track to win the Division but took one hit Friday night with the Bruins lose.  Joel cannot afford to Lose New Jersey and Boston otherwise he could only bring at best 13 points versus Andrew who has that many from either LA or Edmonton moving on with his Carolina players.  If the Devils and Bruins win this round, Joel will likely be the winner of the North Division.

GM Andrew - It didn't appear GM Joel would have any resistance, but this is GM Andrew and he seldom goes down without a fight.  It would be best if LA comes back and takes out Edmonton, simply put it is more points about 15-7 projected and 8-4 this round with Fiala only playing two games.  No one would have a better LA built team then Andrew late, but getting by Joel won't be easy.  Just a Kings series win with the Devils going out will give Andrew a shot to win the Division.  At this point, it is about Joel getting weaker.
----
Central - South

GM Chad - The best shot at winning the South Division is Chad's Leafs.  The Leafs already have 5 players through and can still have a full 7 players with Tampa and Boston wins.  However, Boston winning could ruin Chad's hopes for a Cup.  The Bruins lose Chad might win everything and go as far as Dallas or Vegas go.

GM Bryce - It wasn't a good night on the Las Vegas Strip.  For Bryce he has a winning team sitting here. It won't be anything should the Bruins lose out and down go Pastrnak, Krejci and Hall.  Having the Kings come back would help as would Tampa Bay going out.  The best the Strip can move forward is about 27 points next round, enough to compete with GM Chad.  Chad's players already through have already scored 28 this round.  Without Boston here, there is no hope for Bryce.
----
East - Atlantic

GM Joel - Scoring at a record pace in the first round things have the potential go get really, really bad in a hurry.  If Toronto and Edmonton move on, everything is a lock for winning the Division.  If Toronto loses out things start to go south in a hurry.  If Joel was to lose both the Leafs and Oilers, he could possibly move on no players.  Toronto and Edmonton must win for Barrie Island.

GM AJ - We didn't see this one coming.  GM AJ not only is now the favourite to win his first round series, currently down 19-17 to GM Jr in Memphis, but AJ could win the Atlantic Division.  It is one hell of a crazy thought to think Barrie Island (Joel) scores over 50 first round point and doesn't have a player in round two.  For Bryce he needs to still beat Jr.  Jr's remaining players have 5 points this round between them and AJ has Nugent-Hopkins, Trocheck, Rodriques and Paul 11 points.  So on paper, AJ will likely win the series, but might not.  If he does he will need for certain Toronto and Seattle to be out which will likely mean a decent matchup versus Joel, likely even the favorite.

GM Jr - At this point Jr is just hanging on, up 19-17 with the player man game advantage squarely in GM AJ's corner.  If Jr can win, he will need Toronto and Edmonton out and then he'd be a favorite versus GM Joel.  With Joel possibly advancing no players, Jr already has Burns.  All is likely lost and there is no real hope if Toronto wins as the best numbers would still not be advantageous to Jr.  So, Toronto and Edmonton out, hold off AJ and see what happens with Seattle in Game 7.

----
East - East

GM Marcel - It is really hard to put the East Division in any order, as four GM's all have real shots.  It wasn't a good night Friday for Marcel who could have already won his first round series versus Philadelphia (Scott).  Although losing 40-35 the remaining game 6 players of Marcel's have outscored Scott's 27-6 through 5 games, about a 5-1 per game advantage.  That puts this series about 41-40 after games tonight.  There is no room for error on either side.  At this point Scott has 5 game 7's from his Bruins who have 34 points in 6 games, almost 6 per game.  So Scott should reach around 47 meaning Marcel must have game 7s from his players.  McDavid is key.  Losing McDavid tonight might just be the end of Montreal's hope.  There is a lot of hope here, potential to run with McDavid with help from Vegas, New Jersey and even Tampa.  A full 7 players next round with perfection.  GM Andrew in Hartford might have 7 next round and GM Chad could be as strong.  So Marcel needs huge points from everyone and extra games, and often those things don't go hand in hand.

GM Scott - It is safe to say Scott had a dream night Friday.  With 8 points from his Bruins players and now a 7th and deciding game, the GM got everything to now he has asked and wished for.  Facing McDavid round one, with a Bruins team that could win four straight and be done, it truly seemed unlikely.  When Scott built the Bruins 5, he wasn't planning on McDavid.  Scott's Flyer could find themselves losing again, as has been the case at the end of every even games in this series.  Pressure is on Marcel Saturday to score enough and to get some game 7s.  Sunday the pressure switches back to Scott where he will have to score and need the Bruins to win, or the dream games might have worked but the dream season might be over.  Saturday Scott does have Hischier and Hamilton to offset Marcel's guns, but they haven't been able to hold off the Habs attack through 5 games.

GM Chad - In what is becoming an incredible story, GM Chad isn't only thinking of winning his first round matchup, but the Division and the NHLP Championship in Pittsburgh.  Like what?  Chad believed he was on to something with his Florida players who are just a single win away from completing Chad's very own Miracle on Ice.  First off Chad needs to complete his matchup with Hartford (Andrew).  Up 24-21 with only game 7s to go.  Player games are 6-4 on paper if Nichuskin plays.  If that happens Chad then will need the Florida Panthers knocking out the Bruins in Boston where they have won 2 of 3 so far.  Boston going out would be a Division title versus Philly (Scott) but not so quick against Marcel's Habs.  Chad would be best served to see the Leafs and Kings win round one, ensuring McDavid isn't an opponent for Chad's Pens.  Chad is likely best to cheer for Marcel not so get any points tonight, meaning that matchup is out of the way and only a Florida win on Sunday would matter.  Oh ya, and stopping Andrew.

GM Andrew - If Andrew is a little pissed right now, who could blame him.  Sure he got the Avs huge win last night, it was essential, but enough with the X's.  Andrew has 16 X's meaning man games not played.  Down 24-21 without the tie breaker and only one game of likely 3 guys if Nichushkin doesn't play and even if he does, facing all GM Chad's guys remaining, things are bleak.  This isn't the way this team was suppose to go.  A seven player team in the NHLP Finals was somewhat realistic.  If Andrew was to move on, somehow, he needs Colorado to get his 7 through, where he can regroup and compete.  Can he get back on track?  Odds are not looking good for the Whalers.
----
West - Pacific

GM Marcel - Alaska is up by a slim margin heading into Saturday night.  The Attack have a 24-21 lead with Hischier and Rielly matching up versus GM Andrew's Kempe, Arvidsson and Doughty.  Andrew leads this matchup 14-10 in the playoffs, so about a point gain per game (Side note:  Marcel needs points here from Hischier, but is against him in his Philadelphia and Montreal series - painful).  The Attack can move on a good team but likely want the matchup versus Phoenix (Charlie) with the Kings and Bolts out.  Charlie can still bring 7 and GM Ryan, albeit a long shot, can still have 7 players next round as well.  Even winning things can go bad for Marcel if the Devils don't move on, meaning any long run is likely not possible.

GM Andrew - We will put the Kings here as they are facing GM Marcel's Alaska team and would only need one series to change, not two as GM Charlie will need in Phoenix.  For Andrew he needs a big night and Los Angeles win where his three Kings all point.  With then a game 7, more points, maybe enough points to move on would be possible.  Marcel will be cheering hard for the Kings to be out, in both leagues.  If Andrew can get the Kings, there is hope.  Without the Kings there is really no way for Andrew to go any distance.

GM Charlie - Things go really tight here in a hurray and Charlie is only up 35-33 without the tie-breaker.  Now, what is likely the biggest issue here isn't winning the series, it is likely setting a team and the right opponent for round two.  Charlie has to get points and must have Tampa and likely Los Angeles to win Saturday.  Both Tampa and LA out mean the Coyotes are really depleted and the two Bruins could yet fall next.  Charlie could still move on with a full 7 players and be favorites then in either matchup.  So Tampa and LA it is, ensuring those players get game 7s and GM Ryan doesn't pull it off in Green Bay.

GM Ryan - Man, what could have been?  This is a great team.  Let's be real.  Rantanen,  Nichushkin, Marchand, DeBrusk, Smith and, well you get the picture.  The matchups on the distance were well put together.  Nichushkin really killed another team's chances here as Ryan needed the points he would have got.  Now, down 35-33 with the tie-breaker, it is close now but Danault versus Stamkos, Kopitar, Killorn, Arvidsson in game 6s is not a good matchup, about a 4-1 disadvantage tonight.  That would mean 39-34 heading into game 7s with Charlie still having at least Bergeron and Bertuzzi to counter what could at best be 5 player games and at worse just 3.  If Ryan can pull off something incredible, like huge nights from Rantanen and Marchand, very possible, this team could then have a full 7 players if the dream occurred and Avs, Bruins and Kings all moved on.  At that point, if all that happens, this team could win GM Ryan his first ever Championship as it won't be a fun team to matchup against.  The Saturday night is about stopping Charlie from scoring.

West - West

GM Shawn - GM Chad might never have had a bigger fan.  We can feel the love between these two GM's from miles away.  At the moment GM Shawn has the best team through already, so just having Chad's Colorado team win is all it will take and the Storm can win the Division and maybe run with Vegas and Dallas.  The Rangers winning helps and Shawn can likely even do with a Bruins lose, sacrificing Lindholm who isn't a point producer to just destroy so many of the competitor's teams with one swift blow.  Another reason to cheer with Chad and his Panthers.  The biggest concern for Seattle is GM Scott in Edmonton who yet could move on a competitive team, so seeing the Devils out or Chad winning puts that worry to bed quickly.

GM Scott - The Oil hopes run through New Jersey.  Down 17-16 with the tie-breaker back in his favor with the Avs in game 7 on home ice, GM Scott must find a way to get a healthy point gain tonight on GM Chad.  Hughes and Bratt who only have 6 total points must gain on Hedman and Kakko who have 5.  Scott might need a game 7 from his Devils players and if things end tonight with a Devils win, Chad has Dunn and Eberle who have a 4-2 point advantage, and maybe Hedman who has 3 more to win outright or the Seattle tie breaker.  Scott has a team GM Shawn won't want to face if Scott has 5 or 6 players and his Devils, meaning no Zibanajad for Seattle.  Shawn's guys are hot, but they might have to stay that way should the Oil be their dance partner.  If Edmonton finds a way, they could run with the Devils and Hughes and Bratt have big number potential.

GM Chad - If Seattle and Tampa bay can move on, GM Chad would be an underdog against Seattle (Shawn) but not a push over.  What Chad can do is get rid of a stronger team which could help the entire league later, including himself elsewhere.  Up 17-16 we likely covered it all above in the Edmonton (Scott) write up, but Chad needs points Saturday.  Playing defence and holding Scott to zero is only good if the Devils lose, as giving extra man games to Hughes and Bratt is playing with fire.  Chad can really use some points and an extra game from Headman who might be a key here.  If Chad can be tied or a couple down heading into only Dunn and Eberle versus Sprong, we like Chad's chances.  If Chad doesn't keep it close and it comes down to just those players, his chances will be very slim to have to gain 3 or 4 with just those two, the way that series is playing out.  Of all the teams we mentioned, Chad might just have the best spoiler roll.

----

Magical Run for GM Joel

The Buffalo Sabres (Joel) just need every series as is to move on and win the North Division title.  His opponent next round is GM Andrew's Chicago team who even with a Kings comeback, still wouldn't have enough unless the Sabres somehow lose someone.  "Some team must have the lead heading into game six" noted Muddy Capone, "And that means the only way to a game seven is if they blow the series lead."  GM Joel just needs that not to happen to his players, meaning a Friday night win by both Dallas and Boston, helping to ensure his own series sees no surprises and he remains perfect for moving players through. Only GM Ryan at 21 seasons of the currently NHLP GM's has a long tenure without a Cup win.  This is Joel's 16th season and at the moment he is very much in the thick of things when we look at teams who can go all the way.

---
Sabres Move Closer to North Division Champion

GM Joel is having an outstanding playoffs.  The GM is chasing his first NHLP Championship and has been inspired by the recent run of first-time champs.  Three of the last four winners have won for the first time, including Shawn, Charlie and Bryce.  The Sabres are a well balanced team that can have two to four player final teams.  With the Bruins and Devils viable options from the East and Dallas the west, it is real.  With Chicago's (Andrew) Kings collapse Tuesday the Blackhawks now have no room for error.  Andrew must have the Kings come back or the Rangers to beat out the Devils, or Joel's Buffalo team will win. We can see a Cup run here as the South is bringing likely Toronto (Chad) or Vegas (Bryce) and matchups are very possible to give the Sabres a shot.  Tons of hockey to play, but today the snapshot looks bright.

---
GM Chad's Hopes for Full Team Still Possible

The South Division appears to be heading towards GM's Chad and Bryce facing off.  As is the series would be interesting, about 27-22 in Chad's Leafs favour.  For Chad a win by the Bolts left possible he can still move on 7 players if the Bolts complete the NHL comeback.  Bryce cannot do the same as he will lose either Toews or Bjorkstrand.  However the Strip will make next round a possible 27-27 if the Kings can come back and knock out the Oilers and Leafs don't allow the Bolts doing the same.  Both these teams can win the Division and Central Conference eventually against Buffalo (Joel) who now seems the matchup.  It surely seems one of Joel, Chad or Bryce will be in the NHLP Cup Finals from the Central.

Bruins Strip Rage of Comeback Chance

GM Bryce got the extra game from his Boston three players, almost assuring he moves on to the South Division Finals.  Up 30-24 GM Matt had a slim opportunity that Bryce would lose Pastrnak, Krejci and Hall, 11 points of scoring this round.  Unless something changes Las Vegas will be underdogs versus Toronto (Chad) next round but the series will still be winnable.

GM Jr's Hope for 5th Cup Down to Color Changes

We don't need GM Jr to tell us he isn't happy with his playoffs, but all is not lost.  The game sixes, starting tonight, will determine if Memphis still has a shot.  Beating GM AJ will be a requirement, but the 18-16 slim lead by Jr won't be decided tonight, but what will be is if Minnesota can get to a game 7.  If that happens, it is even possible so can Tampa Bay and suddenly Memphis has a full 7 players from a majority red at the moment.  The Machine moving on Sergachev also means Barrie Island (Joel) who the winner gets, would lose his top two Leaf players Marner and Nylander who have 18 points this round.  So that is the order of business tonight, a Wild win and then we will talk about the three Oilers players of GM Joel's tomorrow.

---
AJ Looks to Take Lead in Series

It might just be playing for the gate at this point as Hamilton (AJ) wouldn't stand any chance next round versus Barrie Island (Joel).  Down 18-15 AJ sends out Scheifele, Scheifele, Trocheck, Neiderreiter and Paul versus GM Jr's Sergachev.  Now Scheifele is not a certainty, but he has said he will likely play.  For AJ he would only have hope if Winnipeg can come back and knock out Vegas, as well as seeing both Toronto and Edmonton (maybe) losing out.  Joel's Edmonton players are outscoring AJ's 20-4 this round, so Edmonton likely wouldn't help AJ.  AJ has no one that can counter the 17 more points for Joel's two Leafs, so they would have to go as well.  So things are bleak for round two matchups, but getting his first ever playoff win is still exciting.  Memphis on the other hand would be able to compete next round with just Minny coming back as is giving Jr 6 players and a Tampa comeback would give him a full 7 players.  This might be Jr's only hope this year to win a third Cup in just the last 6 NHLP seasons so playing defence tonight is huge for that to yet happen.

Where Anything is Possible

We are entering game 6 of the first round of the playoffs, and nothing can be called in the NHL's hotly contested East Division.  On the surface GM Scott's Flyer are a beautiful shade of green, currently moving on all 7 players.  The issue for the 5 time Cup winning GM is the fact that after even games the Flyer have never lead Montreal (Marcel) who are up 35-32 with the tie-breaker.  The good news for Scott is the Flyer now have a 7-5 man game advantage.  The bad news is not only McDavid gets one or two more games, all of GM Marcel's players are scoring equally well.  To be in this situation isn't a shock to the GM, he knows he put himself in this situation.  Scott gave up first round scoring and high point player Nugent-Hopkins for Marchand, to add an extra Bruin with hopes of getting through round one and running.  Marchand is outscoring RNH 6-4 in the playoffs and everything has went better than could be hoped outside of getting the matchup with Marcel.  The Flyer at 32 points are the highest scoring team in the playoffs to be losing and we know someone always gets that title.  For Scott it might take a 7 game series in Boston, something also being cheered for by GM Chad in Pittsburgh.  For Marcel, he wants Boston gone and no changes elsewhere as far as NHL series, meaning he moves on with McDavid and will easily win the Division by hammering the other current weak links.  One of those weak links, Hartford (Andrew) might have the stronest, most feared, most dominate, most unstoppable teams the rest of the playoffs, if Colorado comes back and moves on after a 7th game win over that crazy Kraken team.  No GM will want to play MacKinnon and Makar moving forward and with an Avs and Canes NHL Finals, Andrew would have 7 players still, if guys get back from family counselling in time.  One is for Andrew is his Avs, another issue is GM Chad is a pain in his ass.  Chad's Florida players Barkov, Verhaeghe and Verhaeghe should have their projected 16 first round points after tonight with 13 in 5 games so far.  Chad only needs to have the Panthers force a game 7, pull the miracle upset and suddenly, he is the favorite to win the Division and then goes as far as the Panthers Cinderella run takes them.  At least one GM here is going to be crushed for one (maybe two) of Scott, Marcel or Chad are losing.  Andrew, He doesn't really care, but man is tonight a big night for him just the same.

---
Back From the Dead

Both GM's Scott and Chad got exactly what they wished for Wednesday night.  Without a Florida win the pair would have lost 8 players and been sitting ducks.  Although neither has won anything both GM's have temporarily taken the lead in their series.  For Chad's Pens that lead is 19-17 with all players facing elimination games with a maximum 14 player games left if they all get 7 games each.  At the moment Chad would have the tie-breaker in Edmonton.  No players in that series play tonight.  As far as GM Scott he leads heading into tonight games play out, at the moment it is 31-30 without the tie-breaker.  Tonight GM Marcel offers up Bratt, Hagel, Smith, Kreider, Karlsson and Cirelli versus Hischier and Hamilton.  That is a battle lead by Marcel 21-5 through four games, so a four point gain per game (5-1), meaning Marcel should go up 35-32.  It is possible Marcel could lose 4 players tonight.  If that occurs a 35-32 lead will be nice, but with only McDavid, Bratt and Kreider left, those three will have to then hold off all 7 of GM Scott's players.  So tonight, Marcel will be holding for at least those points and one of either Vegas or Tampa to extend their series while GM Scott is hoping to keep the scoring down and see Marcel left with just three players.

GM Charlie Losses His Shit on Muddy

Muddy Capnoe was hit with a text from the Phoenix Coytoes GM.  Charlie wanted to know what about his team.  "Fuck Alaska" the GM said, "We can get seven players through and take them out."  The Coyotes have been laying in the weeds and with the Kings win tonight, Charlie does move close to a full team next round.  GM Andrew who is down 22-21 will also need those Kings to come back and win, or even if he wins, there likely isn't Cup hopes for Los Angeles.  Alaska (Marcel) had a big night with his two Devils moving closer to moving on.  Marcel right now has the best team and best chance of representing the Conference in the Conference Finals but he needs the series to all stay.  For Marcel, the first step is having Zacha and Gourde keep his lead over Andrew's Schwartz and Tanev.

---
Attack Look to Take Lead

GM Marcel has a huge night in front of him in Alaska.  The Attack currently trail GM Andrew's LA Kings by a single points, 21-20.  Tonight Marcel has Hischier and Reilly to retake the lead in the series.  With a Devils win, Marcel would be moving on his top 5 scorers, about 23 points into round two, easily enough to take out Phoenix (Charlie) who needs Tampa Bay or LA to come back, or see the Devils lose to the Rangers to have hope.  Currently Charlie leads Ryan's Green Bay Knights 30-25 in a series not over.  With all players in the series facing their eliminations games, if someone can get some players go 7 games, namely Colorado for Ryan, there could be some comeback hope.  Right now that is very slim.
---
Chad a Wild Guy

GM Chad might even get a little bit more Wild tonight, if his Wild players Kaprizov and Boldy win and force a game 7 with Dallas, or lose and maybe cost his any chance of running in Colorado.  The Avs are down 16-15, but a Seattle win tonight means Chad would only need to tie GM Scott's Oil.  For Scott he lost the first two players of the series and without Pavelski, you wonder where any points can come from.  This series isn't a surprise to be the lowest scoring, with the injuries the CTR had this series at 54 points, but at 31 so far it is easily the lowest scoring first round series.  GM Joel would be beating both teams by 17 points in Barrie Island.  Sometimes however, that is the way the NHLP works and a team like Edmonton (Scott) get through to the second round with the 6 current green players, is a favorite next round and runs to the Finals. Chad sends out Kaprizov, Dunn, Boldy, Eberle and Dadonov versus Pavelski (injured), Sprong and Jarvis to gain a point (up 10-6) so far in those player matchups.  Who gets a game 7 out of those players might determine who wins the series late.

---

Oil Cup Hopes Rest with Devils

GM Scott looks to extend his lead in Edmonton over GM Chad's Colorado Avs.  The low scoring series is currently 16-14 with Scott having missed Pavelski and Ehlers all series while Chad's top guns have been disappointing so far.  The Avs look to keep the series close with Hedman and Kakko versus Scott's Hughes, Bratt, Ehlers (if he played) and Theodore, a 9-4 advantage or about 2-1 through four games, meaning Chad should be down 18-15 after tonight with the tie-breaker in Seattle.  Chad could really use a Tampa Bay win tonight and Minny coming back if he is to win here.  For Scott his Cups hopes go through the Devils, where with Hughes and Bratt in, as is he'd be a favorite versus Seattle (Storm) is just needs the Rangers as is to ensure he dominates.  Every point matters here and matchups will determine who rules the West Division.
---
Chadwicks Cup Hopes Blossom

GM Chad had a good night for the blossoming Maple Leafs.  With the Dallas NHL win the Leafs are moving on about 27 points, easily enough to see Chad winning the South and matching up against GM Joel in Buffalo to go to the Cup.  GM Bryce took a hit in Las Vegas with the Dallas win and Kings loss.  The Strip are up 27-23 with the tie-breaker deadlocked 2-2 in the Rangers-Devils series.  The Strip won't have Krejci and could lose their Bruins Pastrnak and Hall keeping a very thin hope alive for GM Matt in Cincinnati.  Undoubtedly if Cincy is to pull this off it will have to come from Point and Rielly playing at least 6 and maybe 7 games.  It does appear the Strip and Leafs will win in the first round and today that favors Chad.
---

Not Half a Chance

More good news for Barrie Island (Joel) fans.  Another perfect night.  Bouchard has been the surprise of the first round with his 8 points, 5 over projection and Joel has the twins.  With the Oilers win and Wild loss, the passing lane is clear for miles.  This team will cruise into some potentially tough competition come the East Conference Finals, but getting there isn't going to be hard as things are.  If there are no color changes the rest of the round, there isn't a half a chance, zero actually, Joel doesn't win the Atlantic.

Capone Calls Bullshit

The East Division remains totally up in the air.  Depending on your view it can go many ways.  We know GM Andrew's view, he doesn't care about anything but his Toronto Maple Leafs.  "You can't bullshit a bull shitter" said Muddy Capone about Andrew's rhetoric.  The NHLP Yearbook has been listening to it for years and not another NHLP GM believes it for a second.  There is likely not another GM more invested and cheering harder to win than Andrew, but he blows it off to ease the painfulness of a loss.  For GM Chad, he has given a battle with his Pens but finds himself at the end, down 15-12 with the tie-breaker, but about to lose his top three scorers.  That will be the end of the Pens with the Avs players playing at least two more for Andrew's Whalers.  The Avs, is likely the biggest, and most shocking story in the East Division.  The Whalers are a dream team with MacKinnon and Makar with three Canes.  A 7 player final is very likely.  The issue is without Makar and McCann in the game today, which way does it go?  Do the Avs turn the corner or head back to Seattle a possible out, taking the hope of a 7th Cup that Andrew completely doesn't even care about anyway.  But do come back tomorrow Andrew and we will update you on how you did.

Judgement Day

In what has been an incredible battle GM Marcel's Habs are up 30-28 with the important tie-breaker in Boston.  GM Scott has the only players playing tonight, Marchand, DeBrusk, Hall and Bertuzzi that have had games of 5-3-6 and 9.  It appears Marcel will be losing at nights end, but by how many is the question.  If the Bruins do as they should, this will be the end for GM Scott's Bruins, leaving his Flyer team with only Hischier and Hamilton to in at least two games counter Bratt and Kreders two from the same series (9-5 edge Marcel) and McDavid, Hagel, Smith, Karlsson and Cirelli another 21 points to 0 that the Bruins can get after tonight if they are out.  Depending what happens in Hartford (Andrew) either Marcel or Scott could be underdogs or favorites in the Division Finals.  Any chance GM Scott's Cup hopes stay alive likely rest on the Bruins getting a 6th game, meaning they must lose tonight.  GM Scott said the Flyer are so close he can taste it, "I just am not sure if it is going to be the taste of victory or defeat, both tastes I think I know all to well."
---
The Last Stand, Or Next to Last

The Green Bay Knights (Ryan) have 5 points from Rantanen the past two games.  If he gets five more in the next two and a 7th game, with the Coyotes (Charlie) players all facing their elimination games, if they start quietly falling the Knights cane actually pull this off.  Depending what happens in the un-callable 1 versus 4 series the Knights could yet win the Division.  Up 20-18 GM Andrew's Kings are without the tie Breaker sending out Schwartz and Tanev versus GM Marcel's Zacha, Gourde and Rodriques.  Andrew took a massive gut punch with his three Kings losing and Marcel still has two uncontested games from Hischier.  Alaska can look strong yet and would crush GM Charlie's team as is with his Devils and be able to battle without.  The Pacific could yet go four different ways.
---
Dunn Enough to Win?

GM Chad is hanging on, down 16-13 to the Edmonton Oil (Scott) team.  For Chad, his top guns have been silent.  Kaprizov just a point and Dunn, a projected 4 hasn't been heard from.  With Dunn and Eberle tonight versus Sprong, Chad can creep back into this series where he will need a Wild come back if he is to compete with GM Shawn's Seattle Storm.  The Storm are just watching who they will play with a 24-10 lead on the flickering Flames (Jr).  As is Shawn would win the Division if the Rangers come back and everything else stays or either Chad or Scott could compete if colors swing their way.  Points matter in a big way and Dunn needs to be heard from tonight.
----
Hughes Win for Sabres

Buffalo (Joel) won the night with a huge win by New Jersey, adding games, but more so, adding hope of advancing 7 players, something Chicago (Andrew) cannot do.  GM Joel will be heavily invested in the Dallas and Minnesota matchup Tuesday night, where a Stars win is huge for the Sabres.  With the Devils coming back from the dead, Hughes and Palat are now potentially in play.  For GM Andrew he needs his Kings taking a 3-2 lead tonight as their 15 points is more than the 8 Nugent-Hopkins can bring.  So far this round the LA three have outscored RNH 6-3 with just Fiala playing his first game in game 4.  Both GM's can have colorful teams next round, but that matchup is the focus of the North Division with both teams in control of the first round matches.
---

Cincinnati Hanging Around

GM Bryce just keeps looking in his rear-view mirror and GM Matt is standing there.  If it sounds creepy it is.  "The Rage must be haunting GM Bryce" stated Muddy Capone, "The CTR did have this series a nail biter but Cincinnati doesn't have the Cup threat as the Strip has."  With both teams facing elimination games things could turn in Matt's favour if the Bruins and Canes win their next games and Tampa and Toronto extend to 6 or 7.  That series has Matt 10 points and Bryce would be losing 15 points that his four have.  It would leave Bryce with Kempe and Bjorkstrand versus Point, Rielly and Sprong.  The winner he is looking at Toronto (Chad) who is going to need Dallas to win this round to have a real shot at playing outside of the Division.
---
Four More Field Goals

Barrie Island (Joel) added 12 more points in game 4s, now up to 43 points and at least 5 players having two more games left.  Barrie Island can still have all 7 players advance.  Perfection would be Toronto winning with Rangers, Oilers and Kraken.  The Yearbook hasn't given much love to the Kraken, even though they have played so good, but can they really knock out the Avs?  The Kraken should be up 3-1 as they absolutely blew a game they had.  Now it is a three game series and Seattle is really an upset threat.  That thought bolds well for GM Jr who has McCann and Dunn.  Those two were expected to get 9 first round points and are sitting at just one point.  Still the Machine are in control of their series and looking to advance.  For Jr he does likely need the Kraken, but certainly needs his 14 points from his three Wild players who have 9 points this round.
----

Flyer Break Serve

There is a lot happening in the NHLP East Division.  The Philadelphia Flyer (Scott) and Montreal Canadiens (Marcel) are now tied 28-28 in a series the Habs were expected to win by 7 points.  Scott has 5 Bruins who all could be done Wednesday night.  Marcel has McDavid who is going to put Marcel into the lead tonight, but by how many.  Marcel has his own elimination issues with four players, Hagel and Cerelli from Tampa and Smith and Karlsson from Vegas who could go out next game as well.  Hartford (Andrew) may very well have won the night with his Avs players all extending their series as GM Andrew can't shake GM Chad's Penguins.  Chad is down 15-12 and Barkov, Verhaeghe and Verhaeghe, the team's top three scorers all maybe playing just one more game Wednesday night.  Before that Andrew could lose his three Canes players with a win tonight, even though only Necas is playing.  That would be a very small victory for Chad, who the Yearbook just cannot seem to see how they can win.  The bigger story here is the Avs are now being pushed.  Hartford will likely be crushed next round if they are left with Necas, as Teravainen might not even play.  Andrew's Cup truly run through Colorado.  Yes he has to beat Chad first, but doubt the Avs can advance has now joined the narrative.
---
Kings of the Man Games

The Los Angeles Kings (Andrew) are the only NHLP team to have their entire roster in the black.  This means at least 12 more first round man games compared to 10 for the Attack (Marcel).  With Alaska winning 18-17 with the tie-breaker these couple player games in the end usually make the difference.  Andrew will take this series lead tonight with his three Kings players playing uncontested.  Andrew needs the Kings here if he wins, but will also need New Jersey and or Seattle, as Phoenix (Charlie) has 22 projected next round points if the Kings also advance as is.  As far as Charlie goes he has a nice 28-22 point lead and Green Bay (Ryan) has Nichuskin out while Charlie seems to be getting a game from Bergeron Wednesday night.  Green Bay is not completely out of this series, especially with Rantenan maybe playing three more games.  The Knights might need a player step up with a 4 point night but with only 8 player games left (unless Nichushkinn returns and adds two more) time is running out for GM Ryan.
---

Sprong Performance

Things can change quickly in the NHLP.  Yesterday's snapshot should the rosy scenery around Seattle.  There was a lot to like about GM Shawn's chances.  Now we don't think Calgary (Jr) suddenly has hope of overcoming a 19-10 deficit.  Maybe if Mercer has a 3 point game but with zero in his first four games, we'd have to see it to believe it.  What has changed in the West Division is Seattle and New Jersey winning, great color changing events for GM's Chad and Scott respectively.  Edmonton is up 15-13 without Pavelski and Ehlers.  Although those two have only played one game this series, they are still one point to one with Chad's top two scorers Kaprizov and Dunn, who only have a single point.  They still have two games left each, so things could change for Chad, but GM Scott just added two more games for Hughes and Bratt, who actually are scoring with 6 points.  The Oil can bring 31 points next round if the Devils and Stars win, so Seattle could have some competition afterall.  Chad still has hope of a run but needs the Wild and the Kraken.  Outside of those two teams Chad becomes a stepping stone here for the Division winner.
---
Stars and Oilers for Sabres over Blackhawks

We know Chicago (Andrew) is moving on, but we don't know if it is with his Kings or Oiler.  GM Andrew's Blackhawks could have 6 players if the Kings advance and around 28 points if Rangers and Canes hold.  However, GM Joel's Sabres who are up 19-13 and looking like they might be Andrew's second round dance opponent, need Dallas to advance and could bring 20 points, enough to compete for the Division title if the Oilers get through round one.  Not lost here, or anywhere is the NY Rangers and Devils series where every division chances if the Devils come back and knot things up tonight.  Cleveland (AJ) just got Fiala back and maybe Ehlers in game 4.  If AJ can get 7 games from both those players he might creep to within striking distance, so Joel issn't assured this series yet and there is work to do.  Andrew is just trying to stay healthy and cheer for the right advancements.
---
Leafs Reaching for the Stars

Looking at the South Division you just see Las Vegas (Bryce).  What a team.  Who's gonna stop this team from winning the Division?  Well, suddenly with Dallas tying their series and Vegas looking strong, you see the GM Chad's Leafs actually have that chance.  Chad has built up a little cushion, 23-15 and now some extra man games from Hintz and Heiskanen who have 13 points, over their first round projections already with a collective 4 to 6 man games remaining.  If Chad wins, and that looks good, he can bring about 28 second round points with the Stars advancing.  Bryce is about 27 if he gets Kempe or about 22 without.  Bryce could be unstoppable with Pastrnak, Krejci and Hall if the Bruins run, if he can win this Division.  Chad suddenly looks to stand in the way with his own Cup aspirations with their three Vegas players Eichel, Marchessault and Barbashev.  A lot riding in players advancing in the remainder of round one for Cup dreams for these GM's.
---
Unstoppable

Barrie Island's (Joel) 6th and 7th scoring players, Bouchard and Bouchard's 14 points is enough to outscore the Rangers (Charlie) top four players Matthews, Hischier, Pavelski and Kopitar who have 13.  Joel is heading towards a record number.  No team has ever reached 50 first round points.  With Edmonton winning Sunday, Kane and the Bouchards are assured at least two more games.  If Joel can get his Oilers in next round it isn't looking like he'll have any trouble pounding Memphis (Jr) who as is, with Minny moving on would have a projected 18 points next round to about 32 from the 1/2 Chance Stumblers.  Seems critical for Joel to run he needs Edmonton and the Leafs, otherwise points next round will be non-existent.
---
Chasing Cup 7

The hidden "H" in the Hartford Whalers (Andrew) logo is very subtle.  What isn't as subtle is the green, from all 7 players.  When Andrew built this team he knew it was Carolina or Colorado or bust.  Both teams are looking like they are going to advance to next round.  Although only up 14-10 over GM Chad's Penguins, it doesn't appear Chad has what it takes to win this matchup.  Hartford won NHLP Cups in 1997 (Andrew's First Cup) and in 2015 (His most recent win).  No NHLP team has ever won a third team Cup, but with Las Vegas (Bryce), Chicago (Andrew) and this team of Andrew's you really feel this might be the year.
---

Running on Empty

GM Scott has battled GM Marcel.  To pull the upset Scott knew he'd need extra games from Boston, likely 6 or 7 and for McDavid to be human, well, a normal human.  McDavid has 6 of his projected 12 and still maybe as many as three more games, so he is going to hit double digits and likely be close to his 12.  With that being the case, this series should already be over.  Somehow the Flyer have got some big numbers from some unexpected places.  Hall and Bertuzzi, a projected 6 between them have 13, which is currently enough to give Philadelphia a slim 26-24 lead.  Scott and Marcel know this entire series has followed the same pattern.  Scott has taken the lead when his Bruins play first (only versus McDavid) and the next night Marcel has a 6 to 2 player advantage and has retaken the series lead, which is expected to occur again Monday night.  Marcel is simple waiting around until there are no more Bruins games left to play and no more deficit to overcome.  The Flyer must have that game 6 from the Bruins otherwise what could have been in Philly will die in Boston Wednesday night.
----

Green Bay Needs More Player Games

GM Ryan built a team to win.  They are likely gone in the first round if they don't get additional player games.  GM Charlie is up 24-20 and could still have 7 players next round with LA and Tampa winning there series.  Green Bay can easily have 7 as well, but with Nuchushkin suddenly likely gone, a Colorado 5 games series win takes out Rantanen as well.  A Bruins win next game would leave the team with their bottom three scorers left and not enough to outscore Kopitar and Arvidsson who have four man games left, maybe five.  The LA Kings (Andrew) will get extra games from the three Kings players Kempe, Arvidsson and Doughty.  The Kings are tied 15-15 with GM Marcel's Attack who need Hischier in a big way.  The Attack just appear to not have enough scoring, even though somehow tied with elimination games being played.  Without LA and Tampa in the NHL playoffs, Marcel could be the favorite versus Phoenix next round, but getting by Andrew is looking like a long shot.
---
Seattle Looking to Win West Division

No one paid any attention to the Seattle Storm (Shawn).  GM Shawn has quietly put together a team that is now looking like it could win the West Division.  Up 17-9 over Calgary (Jr) and now have additional man games with Jr not a game from Bergeron, the Storm look secure to move on.  Right now the team could move on as many as 6 players and 22 to 26 points.  Colorado (Chad) and Edmonton (Scott) don't have that many points combined amongst their 14 players, let along the player or two either looks like they might bring to the next round matchup.  Currently Chad is winning 10-9.  Chad needs Minny and likely not near enough while Scott would need New Jersey and Dallas and if Pavelski's stars leave his vision, maybe Edmonton could compete.  Right now, Seattle is looking solid.

Flint Bulldogs

With yesterdays excitement surrounding the NHLP family Muddy Capone looked back at the history of Flint in the NHLP.  The late GM Leo ran the franchise out of Flint from the NHLP's 1992-93 season until their final season in 2001-02, 10 NHLP seasons.  While Leo was winning Cups in Las Vegas and making the finals in St. John's the lowly Fint team was seemingly abandon.  In 10 season the team never made the playoffs.  Muddy Capone, NHLP historian is first to admit that outside of Miami the NHLP has never had a worse franchise.  "By the looks of things, I don't think Leo even knew he had a team in Flint" laughed Capone.  That first season was a big turnover year for teams in the NHLP.  "They were coming and going fast" said Capone of the franchises that changed year to year.  So Norm ended up taking over three teams that were in the NHLP the previous seasons, St Louis, New Jersey and Miami.  Leo was granted three expansion franchises Flint, St. Johns and Las Vegas.  Of current NHLP teams, Atlantic City also came in the same year.  When Leo left the NHLP only Vegas continued as a franchise.  The league has always tried to ensure Cup winning teams stayed in the league and has done it with the exception of Washington.  GM Andrew had won a Cup on each of this four teams, the only GM to have won Cups on four different teams.  The league was dropping from a 48 team league to 36 and each GM had to lose a team, forcing Andrew into a tough decision.  Andrew came into the league in 1995-96 with Hartford, Chicago and Los Angeles, his current teams and added Washington later when the league expanded to 48 teams, so they were the logic choice for him to drop.  As far as Flint, nice to seem them back in the news in NHLP parts.  Here is hoping we have great future news surrounding the city in the future days to come.

Chicago in Tougher Then Expected Series

Coming into the round Chicago (Andrew) was landslide favorites, around 10 points to knock off the hapless six-man Titan team.  Now suddenly Andrew has played 13 man games and is in a 6-6 battle and likely to ne losing after games two wrap up tonight being a 14-5 disadvantage tonight.  Without Fiala, the big guns RNH and Aho have to fill the void, but have just straight lines and 3 points in four man games.  Without croocked numbers from these guys, and without Fiala, a potential long run for Andrew might be a potential disappointment in what should be an easy series.  Buffalo (Joel) up 12-5 is making things look easy against Cleveland (AJ) who has played 5 player games and lost another 4 to Injuries.  Coming back from 12-5 deficits isn't something we see often.  AJ should start planning on booking some tee times for next week.

Rage Rally Around Rielly

The Cincinnati Rage (Matt) are giving the Las Vegas Strip (Bryce) all they can handle.  Down a player (Josi) who sure is missed right now, the Rage are getting every ounce out of what they do have.  After completed game twos, this series is 12-12 after a huge 4 point night from Rielly.  While the NHLP Yearbook wasn't giving any props to Cincinnati, Vegas on the other hand is one of the best teams in this playoffs.  With Pastrnak, Krejci and Hall seemingly perfect matchups for Toews, with possible distance out of Kempe and Burns, GM Bryce has the most realistic chance to repeat as a winning GM since GM Norman in 1993-94,  A lot of hockey to be played yet, but the Rage have shown they are gonna battle this to the end.
---
Record Breaking 23 in Two-Games

The Barrie Island 1/2 Chance Stumblers (Joel) are scoring like no playoff team in the leagues previous 32 seasons.  The Yearbook went back over all playoffs and found no team has ever scored 20 points in the first two games of any playoff round.  Previously we have seen 18 from the 2018 teams Chicago (Andrew) and Toronto (Chad).  The 2010 New Jersey Devils (Jr) who hold the NHLP record for points in a single night, had 17 in game two of that playoffs, after putting up a goose egg in his six-mans first games.  The league has only ran with 7 player teams the past 12 seasons where as the first 8 years in the league were just 5 man teams, making these kind of records back then even tougher.  While 7 NHLP teams haven't made it over 6 points yet, this team has two 6 point players in Marner and Fox and everyone has at least two points in two games.  Incredibly the NY Rangers (Charlie) have 16 points, putting them only two off what was the previous best.  Only 6 teams have hit 16+ in the first two games of a round and here Charlie finds himself very much in this battle, but down 23-16 at the completetion of game twos.  Of note none of these teams went on to win the NHLP Championship.  Barrie Island would need runs from the Leafs or Oilers to have any realistic shot of winning this years Cup.  Is Joel set to go over 30+ after game 3's or are the Rangers coming back?  Stay tune, this one is a wild one.

Teravainen Turns Series in Pens Favor

Usually when GM Andrew losses out in the NHLP playoffs, you don't hear from the guy for months on end.  Well, with Teravainen's playoff ending injury Hartford goes from a promissing 35-31 favorite to a two point underdog to get out of round one.  Andrew was very excited about this chances for Cup 7 with this team, any why wouldn't he be.  Now the Whalers are not only down 4-3, without Teravainen the rest of the way, but also Carolina could be down to two man games while GM Chad's Florida players Barkov, Verhaeghe and Verhaeghe have at least three more.  There is no reason to believe Colorado won't bounce back where Andrew is a 24-12 favorite, but you can really feel the pressure mounting.  All isn't lost yet, but with only one Carolina player left on this team, Andrew will now only be able to rely on Colorado to win him a Cup, slicing his chances in half and we haven't even completed game two's of the first round.
---
Knights in the Dark

With so much of the NHLP series in the black with 6 of 8 series tied 1-1, the Green Bay Knights (Ryan) and Phoenix Coyotes (Charlie) find themselves with 14 players who have already extended the important man games for round one.  GM Charlie is up 14-8 but is only favored by just two point, so lots to play here yet for both these GM's who have great distance teams.  With Alaska (Marcel) suddenly up on the Kings (Andrew) 9-7, the best the Attack can do if the Devils don't come back is a three man team in the Division Finals, meaning the Knights or Coyotes could run.  For Ryan a team of two Avs,  Bruins and Golden Knights and Charlie two Bolts, Kings and Bruins, there is lots of top team potential here to quicte frankly win everything.  Both teams consist of four players who play for the same teams so Ryan can only get more man games from Colorado and Charlie can only do the same from his Bolts.  It is possible things could turn red in a hurry for the advancing team here, so neither the Kings or Attack are out of anything.  We call the Pacific too tough to call at this point.
---
Storm Drain

The life is being sucked right out of the Calgary Flames (Jr) with each NY Rangers win.  With 5 players in that NHL series GM Jr could not have a sweep.  After the Rangers went into New Jersey and kicked their asses, Jr will need a refersal back at MSG or this series will be over quick.  For GM Shawn, after a slow start the Seattle Storm became fierce in a hurry, scoring 8 game two points and are up 8-6 with man games galore moving forward.  Jr has been without Bergeron for the first two and hopes to get his scoring back Friday night in Florida.  GM Chad's Avs up 6-3 are looking like they might be a round two oppoent.
---
---
Calm Before the Storm

Only two NHLP teams failed to register a point in game one.  Off to a horrific start, GM Shawn is set to get on the board and should have Vilardi back to help in game two.  Down 4-0 to Calgary (Jr) the Storm, who are already underdogs, must get going soon.  GM Jr is assured to move on players, but will lose two or three players automatically in the Rangers-Devils series, so doesn't have room for error.  Jr is the last GM to have won multiple Cups with wins in 2018 and 2020 while 8 of the last 9 Cups have been won by different GMs over that time period.

Shoutout to GM Raymond who passed away on April 20th, 2002.

Wanna Get Away?

First place fills the seats in Alaska.  GM Marcel, getting trounced 6-2 in the battle of six man teams may regret, we hope anyways, not being more aggressive and unloading Crosby from his first place roster.  Things are bleak for the Attack but there is good news.  The NHLP Board of Governors has approved the first step in Alaska's possible move.  For years the GM's focus was on a second team in Hamilton, but finally we have movement on relocation.  The league made it very obvious they were not relocating any NHLP Championship teams, which may have helped some decision making of Marcel's during the year.  Just look at the roster and you can tell not a lot of thought went into buidling this gem.  The league has approved the Savannah logo, a major sticking point for relocation.  With any luck and a little momentum, Marcel could find himself with a team in Savannah by as soon at the 2028/29 season.

Avalanche Warning

What does a Whaler, an Avalanche and a Hurricane have in common?  Strangely enough the NHLP Whalers cannot win the NHLP Championship without one or both the Avalanche and the Hurricanes. So GM Andrew took a big hit with the Avs losing to the Kraken in game one.  It could be a blessing if this only is a series extender as a straight sweep would have hurt a team with 4 Avs and 3 Canes.  Early on, with GM Chad's Penguins without a single point, a slow start of 3 points is enough to give Andrew some comfort.  The Avs must win next game or go back to Seattle down 2 games were a split puts them in the dreaded 3-1 deficit.  BTW.  Did you know how the Hartford Whalers got their team name?  Well the Boston Bruins refused to let them be known as the New England Whalers, so the change to Hartford.  The word Whalers actual comes from the whaling communities in the area and the fact the team came from the WHA, becoming the WHAlers.

Ranger Can't Stop Poaching

The New York Rangers (Charlie) are scoring at will with 12 first round points in just 10 man games.  That would be enough to be pounding most teams.  Most Teams.  The Barrie Island 1/2 Chance Stumblers (Joel) are also taking what they want with a crazy 14 points in 10 man games and a 24-19 advantage to end game two.  "We aren't sure if we are happy to see all Charlie's scoring or sad to see him down 14-12 with the highest scoring losing team" stated Muddy Capone.  Each NHLP playoffs some team ultimately becomes the high-scoring losing team, as unfair as it may be.  It isn't a shock this series is high scoring, the CTR had them racking in 70 points, higher than any other series.  Making matters more difficult now is the Pavelski injury for Charlie, which might just open the series up for Barrie Island.  The winner here, the moment would be facing a who lot of green coming from either Hamilton (AJ) or Memphis (Jr) who have but one red player of their 14.
---
4H

What a huge night for GM Chad in Toronto.  His two Dallas players, Hintz and Heiskanen had four points each for a 13-7 lead over Boston (Ryan).  Things even got better with the Dallas win giving the dou more first round games to play.  Already with only 6 players and a bit of a long shot, Ryan might not have the power to come back.  The winner here likely gets Vegas (Bryce) who's Strip are up 10-5 with extended series everywhere.  Bryce is going to be tough to stop.  Chad will need Vegas and Dallas to have any hope next round.  So far though scoring isn't an issue for the Leafs.

---
Wonderful Experience

Cleveland Fury GM AJ is having just a wonderful experience to launch his first ever NHLP playoff run.  Down 5-1 to GM Joel's Sabres, AJ's team is without Fiala, Ehlers and Sharangovich, something every NHLP GM has experience over years, not in their FIRST year.  There are rumours Fiala and Ehlers could be back next game, giving at least a chance to the first year rook.  If they don't return, this is going to get ugly as the Sabres aren't going to stop scoring any time soon with Hughes and Benn barely getting started.
---
GM Bryce Thinks Repeat

We know the Portland Winter Hawks won't be repeating as NHLP Champions, but that don't mean GM Bryce won't be.  After a near perfect run last season the GM is at it again early with his much feared Las Vegas Strip.  An all green start and 6-0 lead over the Cincinnati Rage (Matt) is a perfect start for Bryce.  Led by Pastrnak, three Bruins and an Avalanche there is plenty to like about the team assembled in the desert.  With a tight series expected an early lead has put the pressure on the Rage to respond with a 5-2 player advantage to end the game ones.  With a series 23-6 CTR expected point advantage from the players going tonight GM Matt must answer before his 6 man team finds themselves down and out to a tough Vegas team.
----
No Bergeron - No Problem

Without Bergeron for game #1 GM Charlie couldn't have asked for a better start.  "Kopitar stepped up for us" stated Charlie, "He was an untouchable for us all year, just love the guy". Charlie went on to say Kopitar is playing like a young Chara, just a force.  With four points to give Phoenix a 8-3 lead out of the gate was a huge win on the night in a series expected to be 34-32 for Charlie with Bergeron playing 5.5 games.  Green Bay (Ryan) gets their chance to keep it close to round out the game ones with roughly a 19-16 advantage of the remaining players to not play so moving the series to 8-4 wouldn't be bad for Ryan tonight.
---
Green Machine

The Memphis Machine are the only NHLP team after game ones are completed to have a full 7 players having all won in game one.  The 2018 NHLP Champions are up 4-3 over first year GM AJ who is expected to battle this series to the bitter end, with a CTR coin flip deciding the eventual outcome.  In the other Atlantic Division series, GM Charlie is up 12-11 in another series the CTR couldn't pick a winner.  "These are some high scoring teams and they are battling" stated Muddy Capone.  This series is actually a 6 on 5 player series as both teams have Fox and Charlie has Landeskog which is bringing a zero total this round.
---
McDavid and Goliath

GM Scott knows his Flyer have no room for error and feels great to be up 5-2 after McDavid put up a very rare zero in game one.  "The CTR has Montreal at 38, the highest scoring first round team" said Scott, "So not only are we playing McDavid, he just happens to play for team Goliath."  The veteran GM has been around enough to know CTR underdogs by 7 points don't win seldom in the NHLP playoffs.  For GM Marcel, there is little panic with a 6-2 player advantage to round one the game ones.  Those players give Marcel's Habs a 26-12 in the series, about 2.5 to 1 points advantage on any given night. So even without anything from McDavid the series is expected to tighten tonight.

11 - Penalties for not Attending Meetings

11 (a) Any GM missing meetings will now be fined according to the meeting missed as followed:

DRAFT - $25 added to entry fee

WINTER MEETING - $25 added to entry fee.  The GM is allowed to have another GM run all his teams.  This includes trades and using the Minors.

TRADING DEADLINE- $50 added to entry fee.  In addition ONLY if the GM wants another GM to run his teams, including using the Minors in their absence, they are also hit with a penalty of losing their first Waiver the following season or a combined 15 draft positions of their last team (or also second last team) drafting in the first round of next year’s draft.  This is the GM’s choice which he surrenders.  If a GM decides to “let his teams go, or they are fine as they are”, not using the Minors, the Waiver or Draft pick penalty does not apply.  Further notes:  The furthest a GM can drop in the first round is to 36th place (or to the end of the round if the end is not 36th spot).  However, they might already be drafting 36th, or close to it.  If that is the case their second team also falls back, so as in total a combined 15 spots in the first round between one, two or more teams to reach the full penalty.  If a GM drops, all other GM’s would essentially move up one spot within those penalized 15 draft positions.  If a Waiver is given up, 36 Waivers will still be factored in, but the GM’s first Waiver will just be skipped over on that date.  A GM must inform the league a month prior to the next seasons draft as to which they surrender.  By Default a GM not declaring will surrender their first Waiver.

 Rangers Career Night

For the second time in his 23 years stint as a GM, Charlie has eclipsed the 13 point night. GM's Chad and Marcel are the only GM's to have three 13+ point nights.  The feat is harder to do than win an NHLP Championship, that having been done 32 times and only 21 times has a GM ever hit 13+.  GM's Andrew, Scott and Jr, a combined 15 NHLP Cups, have only accomplished 13+ just 5 times between the three of them.  It was the third time the Rangers hit 12+, no team has done it four times, and their biggest single night total in the franchises history who have never missed an NHLP season.  Hischier led the way with 4 points, Theodore 3 while Matthews, Malkin and McAvoy all had 2 each.  Fox and Pavelski played but did not point.   AJ On the Board with 30

GM AJ had a his first ever Big Night, hitting 30 points this week in Cleveland.  The Fury are finding their grove with all players contributing since the return of Ehlers who had 6 this week along with Perfetti.  Fiala had 5, Connor 4, Tatar, Hyman and Sharangovich added 3 each for the 30.

 McDavid Leads Habs Huge Month

Montreal now has the two official biggest months in NHLP history and GM Marcel did them both in the same year.  This past April, thanks to Kucherov's 31 point month Marcel's Habs smashed the previous record for points in a month without a Waiver of 102 by GM Jr in Dallas back in 2011.  With scoring up across the NHL it seemed we'd see 100+ at some point this season.  Well in one of the shortest months of the season for hockey nights the Habs did it thanks to another 31 point night, this time by McDavid. The rest of the 107 came by months of E. Lindholm 18, Kyrou 17, R. Smith 12, R. Andersson 11, W. Karlsson 10, and Bratt 8.  "Clearly it is a hard feat to pull off" said Muddy Capone, "All 7 players averaging about 15 points each, or better than a point a game, for the entire month isn't easy."  Well it isn't easy and even with a 31 point month by McDavid, Marcel was still only at 107, just a mere 7 points above the thriple digit mark.  Montreal is now 74 points up on 5th place in the East Division with McDavid 72 points and having over double the points of the next closet player on the team.

GM Norn as his peers called him was the only NHLP GM to win back to back years, winning in his first and second seasons in St Louis, the 1992-93 and 1993-94 NHLP seasons.  Norm and GM Leo, who we also lost this year, both became NHLP GM's the same season, 1992-93.  Both first year GM's would play each other in the finals that season with Leo losing 4-0 in St John's to the Gilmour led St Louis Blues of Norms.  The two would win the next three NHLP Championships and four out of the next six with GM Lee's only Cup and GM Andrew's first Cup coming before Leo's second.  "They just completely dominated that period of our leagues history" stated GM Scott.  GM's Norm and Leo joined the NHLP the same season, both leaving after their 10th seasons in 2001-02.  Now 20 years later they both have left us just months apart, with Leo passing on September 22nd and Norm December 24th, 2022.  Although only Scott was a GM when the pair joined the league, by the time they had left GM's Jr and Marcel would be in their 8th seasons while Andrew would have 3 Cups in his 7 seasons.  GM's Chad in year 5, Charlie in year 3 and Ryan his rookie season had also played with the two GM's during their tenure.  Norm always received a little ribbing when he would pronounce Mike Modano's name with his French accent that always came out sounding like "Modandano".  Norm will always be tied to his favorite NHLP player, Doug Gilmour who appeared on both his Cups.  No other GM has ever had back to back wins, let alone with the same team in 33 seasons.  Think like a winner, and you will be one.  Norm's legend will forever be in the NHLP folklore.  RIP Norm.

Habs McDavid Nears Two Points Per Game

GM Marcel isn't having any trouble scoring with McDavid at 1.94 PPG on the season.  With scoring up across the league it isn't a surprise to see the big nights and weeks coming more frequent.  Montreal ended the week with 30 points, but might have been something a lot higher had the teams second leading scorer, Bratt, added nothing to the total.  McDavid had 8, 21 through the first 18 days of December.  Kyrou and R. Smith added a point more than E. Lindholm at 6 each.  W. Karlsson had 4 and R. Andersson a single for the 30.  The NHLP has had 3 teams reach 30 this season, most since 2012-13 when the league had 5 teams do the feat.  Marcel's Habs are at 215 points, 106 points higher than the 36th team in the league and 61 points clear of 5th in the East Division.  "It is a crazy bit of points to have to move, but it is all deception also" said Muddy Capone.  NHLP teams with points to move change the look of many divisions when the points start moving, however, Marcel is in a difficult spot in Montreal.  With Edmonton 9 games from the season's halfway mark, the team is a single point up on Calgary.  That difference of that point today is the difference of being in or out of the playoffs.  McDavid just carried Portland (Bryce) to the Championship with rounds of 14, 12 and 7 as the Oilers almost went to the Stanley Cup Finals.  If that is Marcel's hope, McDavid is staying to carry the team in the playoffs, his 61 points to give are now only improving his chances to make a stronger team with the remaining 6 players who all have between 20 and 30 points.  Attractive numbers for certain, but this is now the focus and only options to make Montreal not just a team that can finish over 100 up on fifth, but a team that can run come playoffs as Bryce was able to do with McDavid last season.  So the Habs appear they can alter the leagues standings, but if McDavid never moves, it is all a big deceiving number.

Scorings Up - November Was Big Point Month

NHLP teams were scoring at a high clip in November.  Across the league there were two Big Team Weeks, a Big Team Night and a Big GM Night.  On top of all this, GM Scott had 112 points in San Fran, which is quite an amazing feat, but not officially recognized by the NHLP Yearbook.  For teams to have official Big Team Months, a team cannot have a Waiver.  The Yearbook went back and double checked Dallas (Jr) Big Team Month in December of 2011, as seen here are the Transactiosn for that month.  Dallas did have a November 5th Waiver, dropping Kane for Parenteau in a 1-1.  That would be a good move for in December Parenteau had 16 points for Dallas who ended with 102.  Last April GM Marcel went to 121 in April without aid of a Waiver.  GM Charlie's Rangers had 99 with a Waiver and GM Joel had 98 in Barrie Island, the highest scoring team without a Waiver in November.  Many teams don't pick up players who score on Waiver nights, but some Waivers are for that purpose only, the reasons Waiver nights get excluded from everything.  The leagues slowest scoring team, Vancouver of Joel's had 46 points while carrying Landeskog.  The news just got worse with Letang on the same roster. In other NHLP news there are 6 more Waivers before the New Year, with GM Chad up on another injury riddled roster on the 1st.  Four players of the Pen's seven are out. Hartman has no penalty if dropped while Konecny is a 12 who has missed 6 games, meaning a minus 3 or 16 to the Minors.  Barkov and Reilly are also hurt and penalties if dropped.

Kings Have 30 Point Week

A high scoring week in the NHL led to some big weeks.  GM Andrew hit 30 and is getting balanced scoring top to bottom of the lineup.  Buchnevich who had four in total coming into this week, led the attack with 7, Gaudreau and Lindholm had 6 each, Arvidsson 5, Meier 3, Hoffman 2 and Strome a single.  The Kings had not had a 30 point week in the last 15 years while in that time Andrew had done it with both Chicago and Hartford one time each.

Charlie Has Memorable Night - Ranger Danger

Since the NHLP went to three teams of seven players, now in season 13 of the format, only one night has ever been better.  GM Charlie pounded out a 12-8-7 for 27 points on the night, just a point behind the 2013 night by GM Chad who's 13-10-5 and 1.33 PPG is considered the second highest scoring night in league history, only behind the 1.42 PPG by GM Scott in 2006 with a four teams of six players 14-8-6-6 for 34.  Over the past 13 seasons Charlies night is rare with only 4 GM's reaching 27, about once every three seasons.  Over that same time only eight teams have reached 25, done by only 5 GM's (Chad, Marcel, Shawn, Andrew and now Charlie).  For Charlie his Big GM Night also had a Big Team Night when his NY Rangers recorded their second ever 12+ point night, GM Charlies 4th such night all time with a career high of 14 in 2009-10 in Phoenix.  Newly acquired McAvoy had 4, Pavelski and Theodore 2 each while everyone else had singles, Matthews, Fox, Malkin and Hischier.  The Rangers may just be unstoppable this year.  They had 28 last week and with Malkin playing Sunday should reach 25 this week.  The team leads the NHLP in points for November with 72 and the league as a team at 1.05 PPG.  The roster is full of playoff players, with every one over a point per game except Theodore.  Just three points off the overall lead in the NHLP and already up 33 on fourth in the Atlantic Division.  It is hard to imagine any team being able to compete with what the Rangers have going on.  If the team gets better, GM Charlie has a real shot to win his second Cup this season.

HALLow Feeling

Not many NHLP teams can survive losing their Elite pick in the first month of the season, but GM Matt hasn't a choice but to try.  The Nordiques acquired Hall from the NY Rangers (Charlie) for the injured Kane who is lost for three to four months.  Quebec still has two injured players but is undoubtedly more healthy.  The trade was seen coming with Kane being penalty free in this Waiver.  This is a sure sign GM Charlie is now using the Waiver and Hall is still an option in the NHLP Minors.

Habs Racing for 100

Nothing new for GM Marcel being the first GM to 100 points out of the gate.  His Habs, along with GM Ryan's Bruins and GM Chad's Pens, are the lone NHLP teams over 90 points and all set to eclipse the century mark this weekend.  "GM Marcel seemingly has hundreds of points to give each and every year" commented Muddy Capone.  The knock amongst the NHLP GM's may be that the GM doesn't use enough of them and always finishes safely 50 points up in a playoff spot with plenty of opportunity to make stronger teams.  Capone has seen the styles over the years and says the GM is a lot like several before him, namely GM Raymond who loved first place teams and rarely did much else in an attempt to win it all.  "Don't get me wrong, Marcel is one hell of a drafter, exceptional if I'm being honest, but his lone Cup also is saying more could be done" added Capone.  For several GM's they won't have much chance to win anything this season if they don't start climbing in the coming months, which will include just getting healthier.  While teams climb over 100 the bottom four teams in the league aren't even living in the 60's while the lowly Canucks of GM Joel's sit at 47.  It isn't lost on the Yearbook that three of the four lowest point teams all have lost 30 man-games already this season while the top three listed haven't lost a game even due to the sniffles between them.  In other NHLP news GM Charlie is likely set to use his Waiver, although it still may be traded to start the morning.  GM Marcel made a four player drop in Montreal and GM Andrew's Hartford team is shopping Saturday's Waiver.  Many GM's have been very aggressive early including GM Jr, still trying to get something done with the January 14th Waiver in Memphis.
---
Trading Season is Open

In the past 5 NHLP seasons there have been only three player trades prior to the day preceding the first NHLP Waiver of the season.  "It comes as no surprise" stated Muddy Capone, "The first month is just posturing to see how your draft went and then teams realize it to time to start building their winning teams piece by piece."  GM's Marcel and Scott hooked up on the first player move of the season with what GM Scott said was just a "Move out of 30 to 40 points in this one" referencing how many points he expects to lose out on trading Zegras and Olofsson for Bratt and Byram.  The deal made sense for Montreal who gained 5 points in the Waiver drop and could still grab Bratt from the minors.  The GM is reportedly shopping his newest players along with Suzuki and Couture.  In other NHLP news GM Jr is shopping his Saturday, January 14th, 2023 waiver in Memphis with hopes of getting something done by early.  "We like to stay aggressive" said the Machine GM, "There is a good possibility Vorecek will be available but there is still a lot of uncertainty with 34 games to play before our team set deadline of the 13th."  The NHLP could not get clarification but it is believed Jr is referring to November 13th, but it could be December, although he may very well be referring to January 13th.  Stay tune for more details on this developing story in the next couple days.   (Correction:  This article has been updated to reflect the actual Waiver date of January 14th, 2023 and not 2024 as first reported.  We apologize for any inconveniences that may have caused our readers)

37 Lives On

The NHLP Yearbook has been tracking Big Nights since the NHLP began some 33 seasons ago. One of the Big Nights is the BIG TEAM WEEK which is always an accomplishment for any team to reach 30+ points in one week.  The records department does not include teams who gained points in a trade or a Waiver the week it occurs.  "Having a 25 point week was always an amazing feat" stated Muddy Capone, "But for the league's first twelve years GM's only had five players per team, so 25 in a week was very seldom accomplished."  Only GM's Ian and Jr even had a 12 point night in the first dozen years of the leagues history.  Since then players have grown per team to 7 players and the Big Team Week has also grown to 30+ points to get recorded.  How hard is 30 points for a team of 7?  The all-time record occurred March 29th, 2009 when GM Shawn finished his week with Henrik Sedin 9, Daniel Sedin 8, Tanguay 8, Markov 5, Laich 4 and Pavelski 3.  Just a SIX player team.  This same week GM Shawn had a night of 14 points and an entire month of 83.  Only two teams in league history have reached 100+ in a month, Jr at 102 and Marcel at 121.  GM Chad is the only GM to be in the 30-30 club by having two different teams the same week reach 30+, just missing out on the "Immaculate Week" when his third team fell short at 23.  He did set the BIG GM WEEK record for three teams at 83.  With GM Scott's Titan having 33 heading into just Zegras left GM Shawn's record appears safe.  The Titan became the 16th team in the past 14 seasons to hit 30+ since the Destroyers incredible night, week and month.
BIG TEAM WEEKS 30+ SINCE GM SHAWN SET THE RECORD OF 37

Landeskog Continues to Haunt GM Joel

With a loaded NHLP squad of Landeskog, Rantanen, D. Toews, Kreider, Goodrow and Trocheck, five of whom where in last seasons Conference Finals, it is understood how GM Joel feels his NHLP Cup dreams were torn away by a single injury to Landeskog last season.  A year later, here we go again.  With the GM's Elite player, 24th overall, gone for three months in Vancouver the GM knows he likely won't be able to make his team in the end around Landeskog.  It is pretty clear Landeskog will be part of the 2022-23 season's biggest trades when the day comes.  "Elite Colorado players aren't made available often" stated Muddy Capone referring to the reigning Stanley Cup Champions who many GM's feel will have a chance to repeat.   If there is any good news for Joel's Canucks it is St Louis (AJ) is also going through early season injury issues.  With two teams hurting early and points following points, there is a good chance the NHLP's Pacific Division could be one of the lower scoring divisions this season, usually meaning a division of powerhouse teams if the top teams have points to build teams.  How it all plays out, no one ever knows, but looking into the early season's crystal ball, Landeskog will be worth more than his Playboy magazine collection later this season.

Black and Blue Hawks Should Heal Well

GM Andrew just lost both Bertuzzi and Schmaltz, both between 4 and 8 weeks, but Muddy Capone thinks Andrew will be just fine.  "Early season injuries to non star players are often a great benefit to teams" stated Capone, "Andrew will have a good selection to choose from in a months time."  Bertuzzi will have to miss 12 and Schmaltz only 11, so the two players with a single point will turn into 10 points when it is time to pick.  Where the injuries could hurt is if the player comes back in the last game prior to being replaced, but often unless it is a star, the Minors will look quite stalked with 5 point players, or better players returning from injury that will out produce the injured players.  We see GM's drafting injured players in the later rounds of the draft, for the sole purpose of using the NHLP Injury rule and replacing the injured player.  "By the time Andrew can pick, there will be some sixth and seventh round drafted players still with a point or two" Capone says, "But those GM's are stuck with their players."  The NHLP has had discussions of dropping the magical number 5 to as low as 2 or 3, but that has never gone further than discussions.  So the rules are there for everyone and it appears Andrew will be this year's winner of the early season injury replacement picks.

GM AJ Suffers First NHLP Injury

Laine, the guy many were thinking would hit 50 goals this season is out until mid November, a blow for GM AJ in St. Louis.  The Blues already without Mikheyev for as far as the eye can see are going to put the rookie GM in a big hole early in the season.  "All teams go through this" says Muddy Capone, "But it is a tough start for a first year GM".  With Ovechkin the number one pick for the Blues and off to a slow start with zero points in two games, it appears the question is how far will AJ's Blues find themselves back of the pack in a months time.  GM Joel in Buffalo also has Laine, the NHLP's first big injury of the young season.

Getzlaf, Subban Won't Join Yashin

When two-time NHLP Cup winners Getzlaf and Subban recently retired, so did their NHLP chances of joining Alexei Yashin as the lone three-time winner of the NHLP's top award.  When Getzlaf won his first Cup with Portland (GM Chad) in 2007, his then teammate Joe Pavelski, now becomes the NHLP player with the oldest Cup.  Although many current NHLP players have a shot to someday sit with Yashin there are currently only 9 two-time winners still in the game.  Of those Joe Thornton (43) may be off the list if he opts to retire.  Of the other two-time winners (listed by age) a few near the end of their playing days Joe Pavelski (38), Patrice Bergeron (37), Alex Ovechkin (37), Jonathan Toews (34), David Perron (34), Craig Smith (33), Drew Doughty (32), and John Klingberg (30).  Will one of these be on the Cup winning team this season and join Yashin?  There is still time for any of these NHLP legends to be in that special place Yashin has sat alone and atop since his third Cup in 2004, winning three times in just seven NHLP seasons with GM Andrew twice and the late-GM Leo, with three different teams, Las Vegas, Chicago and Washington.

33rd NHLP Season Kicks Off with New GM

Muddy Capone is glad to be back for yet another NHLP season.  "It seems like just yesterday we started all this and here we are, off again for a thirty-third time" said the President of the NHLP's Yearbook.  The NHLP's head office remains in-tack with Reginal Cherry the VP of NHLP Affairs (no relation to Donald S. Cherry) and the leagues one and only acting secretary Bonnie Anne Clyde.  This off season saw three-time NHLP Champion and 13 year veteran GM Tyson step aside.  Taking over the franchises in Cleveland, St Louis and Hamilton (yes GM Marcel, there is a team in Hamilton) is a rookie GM AJ.  With AJ coming highly recommended by Ryan, who recomended GM Tyson before he won his three Cups, AJ might be a threat in season one.  Two NHLP GM's are entering special anniversary years with GM Chadwick receiving his 25 year badge while we are only giving GM Matt a sticker for his 15th season.  "You have to earn those badges" stated Capone, referencing the GMs dry spell.  If Matt is on a dry spell then GM Ryan must be lost in a Cinnamon Desert eating only flour, sugar and croutons.  "I hope Ryan isn't salty about that comment" Capone said laughing, "But when you haven't won in 21 seasons we need to get out the chalk and chalk board to make a long list of things that are dry for the coming season's articles."  Capone and his dry sense of humour will undoubtedly come up with a few more while drinking his favorite dry-wine this winter.  While AJ hopes to become the third GM to win in his first year (Norm and Tyson) GM Bryce hopes to become only the second NHLP GM to win in back to back seasons, only accomplished with the '93 and '94 wins by GM Norman in St Louis.  It should be a great season as we race to find who will be the 33rd NHLP Cup Champion.

NHLP Waivers for 2022-23 Posted

With the NHL season starting October 7th, the first Waiver could not be until November 7th and the final Waiver no later than March 13th with the season ending April 13th.  Between these dates December 23rd to the 31st were also eliminated according to the Waiver rules for the Christmas Break.  There were 34 dates left over with 10 or more games, so the last two available dates with 9 games were added according to the NHLP rule book.  All Waivers fell on Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday except four with two on Monday and one Wednesday and one Friday Waiver.  Three NHLP teams, Montreal, Chicago and Halifax have two Waivers each while GM Marcel has the first Waiver in Montreal, determined by the Super Bowl coin flip being Heads this season.

NHLP Bids Farewell to Champion

NHLP Members paid their condolences to former NHLP Champion GM Leo who passed away September 2nd, 2022.  Leo's 10 year run as a GM started in 1992-93, the leagues 4th season, and it didn't take him long to win two NHLP Championships in Las Vegas, in '95 and again in '98. The iconic dice on the Strip logo designed to reflect the Champs winning season's with the first die reading '95 and the two dice reading '98, as well as the first die having the 3-6, the years representing the years he won in his 3rd and 6th season, as well as the 6-3 representing the 6th and 9th NHLP Cups awarded and the 2 representing Las Vegas second Cup win for Vegas.  Leo was the second GM to have a Franchise win a second league title (St Louis - Norm was the first) and no team has since won three times.  Leo's final season of '01-02 was the year the NHLP lost GM Raymond and GM Ryan's first season as a GM, now in his 21st season.  In Leo's last season 7 current NHLP GM's Scott, Jr, Marcel, Andrew, Chad, Charlie and Ryan all competed with Leo for a Cup eventually won by GM Andrew in Los Angeles.  Leo hosted the NHLP at his home for several meetings.  Leo will always be remembered by his NHLP friends.  RIP.

West Division
vs
Perfection?

There are still many ways in which GM Bryce might lose this seasons NHLP Championship.  Lots of scenarios where the Winter Hawks won't be the favorites in the NHLP Championship if they even get there.  There is a lot, a REAL lot for GM Bryce to cheer for tonight.  Firstly, although Copp moving on might look good in color, but facing Los Angeles (Andrew) and holding a 33-19 advantage might not be worth having 7 players next round.  If the Rangers win and he faces Alaska (Marcel) that might be better next round, but might not be a good look facing Chicago (Andrew) in the Cup Finals where Kreider and Strome could spell doom.  Then there is the entire Dallas (Jr) situation occurring tonight a team that can beat Portland in numerous ways.  So the perfect night tonight for Bryce is if Chicago (Andrew) wins with Carolina moving on.  Alaska winning would still leave Portland a 28-12 favorite next round, destroying Both GMs Andrew and Jr's chances for a Cup in Chicago and Dallas and virtually making Portland a favorite on almost all the remaining combinations.  Of course, Edmonton going to the Stanley Cup Finals is likely enough all by itself, but lets get through the perfect night tonight before we were about next round.

---

Pacific Division
vs
Right Teams - Wrong Conference

Both Alaska (Marcel) and Los Angeles (Andrew) have potentially good teams next round with a Canes win tonight moving GM Marcel's Attack on about 12 points and with a Rangers win GM Andrew's Kings out of nowhere about 19 Conference Finals points.  The only issue with Portland (Bryce) would have 28 versus Marcel and 33 versus Andrew leaving either team here a huge underdog, but teams that can score.  Realistically here for us to use the word miracle in association with what occurs next, the winner here must get his players through tonight and then hope with a short Edmonton-Colorado series and even a McDavid injury.  That is best case.  Worst case is this series is undecided, so heading into game 7 tonight the Kings lead 12-11 with Panarin and Strome who must match Svenchinikov and DeAngelo.  A tie means Alaska wins.  But the winner must have his two players moving on.  MUST.  If the winner gets his best team, well at least the next round is 0-0 heading into game one.

East Division
vs

Slim Cup Hopes Better Than None At All

GM Marcel needs a lot to go right in Montreal if he is the win the NHLP Championship.  Tonight's game 7 should not change if the Habs go to the NHLP Finals or not.  Without Carolina in, Kucherov would need a single point to knock out Barrie Island (Joel).  With Carolina, GM Marcel would not have a player in the Championship and be a 13-6 point favorite for Kucherov and Teravainen to dispose of Aho and send the CTR Cup predicted finalists to the final three.  If Marcel is hoping to win a Cup hoping for Chicago (Andrew) to move on tonight makes everything so much easier.  The best Marcel can bring to the Finals is 5 to 8 CTR predicted points, although Kucherov can go off, we all know that.  That 8 points from Kucherov would mean Jr would have at least 13 - Stamkos, Hagel, and Nugent-Hopkins or best case with Carolina there versus Edmonton is 5-5 (Teravainen vs. Nugent-Hopkins), but if Edmonton is there that would mean Portland (Bryce) would have 16 from McDavid and Hymen.  Bottom line, GM Marcel needs Chicago moving on, eliminating Dallas (Jr) and just now having to deal with Bryce if the Rangers go tonight, which would mean Chicago (Andrew) could at best in the end have Trocheck.  If Marcel just deals with Portland (Bryce) Kucherov versus Nichushkin, Lehkonen, Sergachev and Paul is only a 12-8 underdog or better still Teravainen versus Nichushkin and Lehkonen is a 7-5 disadvantage with Chicago getting 4 from Trocheck making the NHLP Cup Finals a wide-open affair.

---

Atlantic Division
vs
Barrie Island's Cup Hopes Dashed?

GM Joel must have Aho alive next round or faces a Walk-Over by Montreal (Marcel).  With Aho the Stumblers will be around a 13-6 point underdog versus Kucherov and Teravainen.  Injuries can always occur and if either those players get injured, Barrie Island could make the NHLP Championship.  Likely isn't going to happen, but won't for sure if Aho doesn't move on in game 7.

---

South Division
vs
Rage Cup Spot on Line in Game 7

We know GM Chad his nothing left.  For GM Matt, there is a long shot hope of making the NHLP Finals, but down 14-12, needs to gain three points from Domi and Lafreniere, or just two if the Rangers win game 7.  in those scenarios the Rage win and player either Dallas (Jr) or Chicago (Andrew).  Matt tonight must also cheer for GM Andrew's Blackhawks to get two points from Kreider, Strome and Trocheck.  If that happens and the Hurricanes win game 7, if the Rage advance they would be a coin-flip to make the NHLP Finals.  One step at a time for Matt - a perfect three points and Canes win and who knows what happens next.

North Division
vs
Rather Have the Points

For years GM Andrew has said he'd rather take the points and have the lead heading into aa series to be decided in game 7, over having to have his players score.  We are not sure either GM likes their position.  GM Jr's Dallas Stars hold a 16-15 lead with the tie-breaker secured, meaning the only way GM Andrew can move on is get a combined two points from Kreider, Strome and Trocheck.  Although not official in the South, it is possible if that series holds the winner here receives a Walk-Over to the Finals with GM Chad's Leafs not bringing a player through.  Otherwise if GM Matt wins the South in Cincinnati the winner here will be favorites versus either Domi or Lafreniere.  If Chicago wins they'd be about 11-3 or 4-3 favorites depending on the Rangers or Canes respectively.  For Jr he is moving on about 26 points next round, so without doubt is going to the NHLP Finals where he is assured 1 to 4 players.  If the Rangers go to the Stanley Cup Finals to play Colorado, GM Andrew will likely win the NHLP Championship here in Chicago.  If the Finals is Tampa Bay and Colorado, GM Jr's Stars would likely win the NHLP Championship.  So for one GM, the other is taking away a legitimate Cup opportunity.  Andrew says he'd rather have the points, being in Jr's shoes tonight.  We will know soon enough if the players or the lead moves their team in this battle for potentially a Cup.

---

North Division
vs
Who's Stealing Who's Cup?

On the curface it doesn't appear GM Andrew is doing anything but playing a spoiler, possibly taking away Jr's chance for a Cup and maybe making it much easier for GM Bryce.  However, maybe it is GM Jr who is taking the 7th Cup away from Andrew.  The Stars are winning 15-12 with the tie-breaker and both Makar and Toews playing Parayko tonight.  It Colorado wins, Chicago will have the lone players remaining and would have to beat Dallas outright.  Those players remaining for the Blackhawks, Kreider, Strome and Trocheck could still have 6 player games between them and all are due, over due, for big games.  The three have combined for a putrid 3 of 15 projected points this round.  If Andrew was to come back and the Rangers win games 6 and 7, the Blackhawks would be favotires to be in the NHLP Finals where if the Rangers played Colorado would be a coin flip with Bryce in Portland.  So although all the talk is about the Dallas Stars, and rightly so, as they are moving on an amazing team.  With a potential of 5 players and 26 points next round, the Stars have real favorable matchups in the Finals.  We know it is Andrew who can kill any chance Jr has, but maybe it isn't Andrew playing the spoiler after all, but Jr taking what could be yet another Cup from the all-time Cup leader.

East Division
vs

Blues Key to Habs Cup?

Lets be honest.  This team has Kucherov, so GM Marcel can win the NHLP Cup with Kuch alone.  Although that might be a very long shot.  For GM Marcel adding in Thomas and O'Reilly or maybe best of all scenarios is those two with Teravainen.  So if the Stanley Cup Finals don't include St Louis, it likely won't mean a second Cup for Marcel.  "Friday night is a big night and a Blues win is a must for Marcel" stated Muddy Capone.  The CTR predicted Montreal to go to the NHLP Finals, something surely now will happen.  The worse matchup Marcel can have next round is Kucherov and Teravainen versus Aho.  That is the worse.  So the Habs are in the NHLP Finals, but if it is Dallas (Jr) and Portland (Bryce) the NHLP Finals wouldn't be good with either Colorado or Edmonton, so St Louis is looking almost like a must.  If GM Andrew comes back in Chicago and moves on, it is possible a Carolina-Colorado Stanley Cup versus Portland could work for Marcel.  Outside of those things, Kucherov might just need to outscore four guys and we'd not bet against that from happening in any round.

West Division
vs
Portland GM "Certainly Not Counting Chickens"

GM Bryce is taking nothing for granted and stated he "Certainly not counting chickens".  Well hell no.  Too many to count.  Portland continues their torrid pace, scoring now 70 playoff points and counting.  "Seems a long ways off from the NHLP record" stated Muddy Capone, "But moving on an entire seven players won't hurt".  Currently the Winter Hawks would still need 35 move playoff points in two rounds.  It doesn't always hold true but usually the team that scores the most playoff points amongst their entire 7 players wins the Cup, although there are years that doesn't hold true.  But this is Portland.  If the Rangers come back and the Avs hold the GM will have accomplished an amazing feat.  Having 7 players even spread across four teams that all make the final four teams, unheard of.  Portland is by no means a lock to win anything.  Surely headed to the NHLP Finals almost no matter what occurs in the Pacific Division there are matchups that could make other teams the favorites come the Finals.  This is understandably not even the half way point of the playoffs and just one injury can rule any teams chances.  But what makes this team so special, is if the GM gets all 7 through, he is guaranteed to have at worst three or four players on every single of the four combinations that could then make the Stanley Cup Finals.  So Bryce, there is no need to be spending your time counting chickens, but it might be a lot of fun counting the cash, and of course, who can't count to the number ONE!

Pacific Division
vs
Attack Kane'd

With three points by Kane, GM Andrew took the lead in Los Angeles over the Alaska Attack, up by two and down 0-3 with the tie-breaker (Florida).  For GM Marcel he needs that tie-breaker securely in his hands and if that happens it also means the Kings lose half their team tonight with Ekblad, Giroux and Bennett's round all finished.  Those three out would also likely officially kill any hope the Kings win the 2022 Cup.  For Alaska, GM Marcel has as good of shot as there is, just needing everything to hold and Calgary coming back and taking out Edmonton, giving the Attack a 19-12 advantage over GM Bryce in Portland next round.  Marcel cannot half more Florida games or all Cup hopes here won't matter for this team will never face the Winter Hawks next round.  Lots to play for in the Tampa-Florida game tonight.

North Division
vs
Stars Stammer Round in Jeopardy

At the start of their second round series, GM Andrew's Blackhawks already had a four man game advantage.  In a tight series GM Jr's Stars needed to turn that into his advantage at some point.  So far, not so.  Stamkos who has half the Stars 8 points along with Hagel and Weegar could play their final round two games on Monday.  The Hawks would lose Montour and Montour, a trade off that Andrew would gladly take.  Either GM at the moment is facing a Walk-Over next round with Toronto (Chad) winning 9-6 and currently moving on no one.  Chicago has a one point advantage and if they can hold the lead, go straight into the NHLP Finals even if likely no chance to win.  "Andrew won't come out and say it but he'd love nothing more than to take Jr's Cup hopes away from him" stated Muddy Capone, "It is why we play, to beat the other guy."  In a bitter battle that has seen the GM's ruthlessly attack one another, with Andrew making light of the series and Jr knowing Andrew can take the Cup away from him right now.  There is a lot yet to play this round and some big players playing many games yet, but if Stamkos isn't one of them, GM Andrew's job of knocking Dallas out will certainly been made easier.

---

East Division
vs

Habs Cup Hopes Still Very Real

GM Marcel is hanging on with a 9-5 lead that never seems safe when Johnny Hockey has man games left on Kucherov, but it is a lead nonetheless.  Currently the Habs are bringing forward 13 points to an all out 15 if Barrie Island (Joel) can advance his Flames and only 6 for the Stumblers otherwise.  Marcel could go to the Cup with Kucherov and even be favorites with other series as they are and the Tampa Bay matchup with the west.  For GM Marcel he could still have two teams in the NHLP Finals and is living large right now, hoping things continue to go his way.  Today the Habs will try and extend their lead and keep the Cup hopes alive.

---

Pacific Division
vs
Panthers Team Looked Deadly

This wouldn't be the first time GM Andrew was dead in the water and suddenly the NHLP Cup is his.  This guy has been there, done that.  The Kings built the best Florida team in the NHLP with Ekblad, Giroux and Bennett, around 14 points worth of players on any given round.  The Kings find themselves down 4-2, but nothing that can't swing their way any game with Panarin, Kane and Strome also playing with the three Florida players.  If the Panthers, and just the Panthers, roar back this series and move on, with the advancing players in Portland (Bryce) Andrew would be a favorite next round 14-12 without the Oilers moving on.  Then Florida goes to the Cup and the Kings are presented the trophy with little effort.  This Panthers team looked deadly and still can be Andrew's best shot at his 7th NHLP Championship.  Seems they have to win today and suddenly the Cats, and the Kings, can come back.

---

South Division

vs
GMs Walking on Tightrope

Both GM's Matt and Chad like what they see when they look North.  GM Andrew's Blackhawks beating Jr's Stars.  Right now that is the only hope for the South Division teams and even then, the margin for error isn't in either's favor.  The Leafs are up 8-5, currently moving on no one with Toffoli and Andresson's series tied at one.  The issue is if the Flames move on, GM Andrew will also move forward another player, Gaudreau.  Beating Gaudreau might be asking too much.  The Rage are in the same boat, maybe just a tad better position.  The Rage could do OK in a Domi-Trocheck matchup.  Where both GM's can improve their changes next round, is if Florida can come back and beat Tampa Bay, possibly moving Chad into a heavy favorite and not really hurting GM Matt.  Bottom line is the Matchups don't look good for either GM, but a little luck and maybe even an unforeseen injury can change their fortunes immediately.

---

West Division
vs
First Timers Club

Two of the past three NHLP Championships have been won by first-time winners.  GM Shawn and Charlie have won two of the last three and GM Bryce is hoping to make things 3 in the past 4.  "It is no surprise to see what Bryce has done in just three short seasons" stated Muddy Capone on the newest and youngest NHLP GM.  After just three seasons it appears the youngster may have mastered the "Greatest Pool in the World".  GMs know it takes time and few win so quick, but it seems almost impossible to stop Portland this season.  With a huge Oilers win Friday the Winter Hawks are on cruise control, now up 12-3 over a Storm that has been downgraded to a light breeze.  As things stand today Portland goes straight to the Cup Finals if they get the lowly Kings (Andrew) who look like they could move on Kane who'd be no match for even just McDavid by himself.  However, if we are looking ahead at matchups Portland suddenly must give some love to Alaska who could be a much tougher out with his two Canes currently moving on.  The young GM just continues to let his team do his talking.  Hanging onto McDavid when others thought it a bad move.  Picking up Paul while others sarcastically laughed at the move.  Moves a Champion makes.  Is that Bryce?  That is one bet we aren't going to bet against.

The NHLP has had its share of battles over the years.  Some have became personal.  GM Andrew has found himself in the middle of a few with running feuds with GM's Charlie and Matt, but none lasting longer than with that of GM Chad.  "It appears after a decade or so of just bitter nastiness between the two, that it has finally died down somewhat" stated Muddy Capone, "The two just couldn't be in the same room together, and litterly weren't for almost a decade."  Now Andrew is picking another battle, this time in a war of words with GM Jr.  Andrew recently hoped some horrible things would happen to certain players of Jr's.  The NHLP Yearbook read the comments but decided what was actually stated is best no repeated.  Up 7-5 Andrew can only sit and watch on Saturday as the Stars send out Makar and Toews to try and take the lead in what is becoming a battle for a potential Cup.  Dallas has a serious shot at winning a third team Cup and moving Jr within just a single Cup of the all-time NHLP leader Andrew.  We expect this battle to rage on with both GMs wishing nothing but the worst for the others players.  Another decade long feud brewing?  Who knows, but GM Andrew is slowly running out of GMs to feud with.  Least he loves GM Ryan!

vs
Savannah Ghost Pirates

It is no secret to anyone associated with the NHLP that GM Marcel has tried unsuccessfully, but annually, to move the Alaska franchise to Hamilton.  "Marcel has always believed a second team in Hamilton would flourish" stated Muddy Capone, "But the league isn't willing to make that move."  It seems that finally the GM might be willing to move the Attack somewhere else, with rumors this years presentation included moving the team to Savannah.  A source not wanting to be named said Marcel did a good presentation and for the first time in a decade may have got the attention of some NHLP executives.  As far as the Attack second round matchup, one of the biggest upsets in the last decade is slowly taking shape.  The Attack are leading 4-2 with the man games sitting at 13-10 for the Kings (24-16 Kings to start the series), with Byram the lone player today for the Attack.  Alaska was a 14 point underdog coming into the series.  The Kings should have 10 points after game twos are completed according to the CTR, and they have just 2.  Five of the Kings players are currently heading for four game sweeps.  For GM Andrew the Kings looked like maybe the team to beat, but his Panthers built team, an expected 14 points has a single point through their first 6 man games.  Every point is going to be crucial and Marcel is hoping Byram can get into the action in the lone game Saturday.

vs
Not 1/2 a Stumble Yet

There just isn't much change in the NHLP when it comes to franchises.  The Hurricanes of Carolina moved to Barrie Island in a long drawn out relocation process.  "If was years in the works" Stated Muddy Capone on the move, "But it was one of the best decisions the league made."  Barrie Island has become one of the more successful NHLP franchises.  With their second round matchup versus the defending NHLP Champions, up 6-0, the 1/2 Chance Stumblers have an opportunity of winning their first ever Championship on a finals of Carolina and Calgary if things keep heading in the right direction.  For the GM, celebrating his 15th season in the league, it would be Joel's first Championship.  It seems likely Barrie Island is moving on and very likely playing Montreal (Marcel) so matchups next round are going to be critical.  So far, so good.

---

vs
 Kuch Getting Things Done

The start is what GM Marcel was hoping for.  The Habs are up 6-3, not in control by any means, but keep pressure on GM Andrew's Whalers.  For Andrew the Whalers must answer Friday with a 14-5 advantage with his 3 to 1 players playing.  With Marcel already getting extra games from his two Blues, Calgary winning and the Rangers losing is only going to make an upset here all the more unlikely.  If Marcel maintains the lead here he is already looking forward to the Conference Finals versus Barrie Island (Joel) and the Matchup to not only put the Canadiens in the Finals, but win a Cup which is definitely a possibility with today's snapshot.

Pacific Division
vs
Bloody Start for Kings

The Los Angeles Kings down 3-1, all red, and now losing in man games early.  Just a horrible start for GM Andrew.  "GM Andrew is in playoff mode" said Muddy Capone, "Just a bitchy attitude when things aren't going his way."  Well, Capone has been around, so he would know.  Can you blame Andrew?  A huge 33-19 CTR favorite and the best built Panthers team remaining in the playoffs, a team now down 2-0 heading into enemy territory.  For GM Marcel a big three point game from Tkachuk to start game one has given him a little confidence.  If the Attack can stretch the lead out Friday, in a three on three player battle which favors the Kings 19-17 over the series, according to the CTR, we might just see GM Andrew in a little more foul mood heading into the weekend.  Stay tune.  Prepare to stay clear.

Montour Unlikely Start Has Dallas Reeling Early

Montour got Chicago off to a great start, an early 2-1 lead.  The Blackhawks who have Montour and Montour, his single point, two for GM Andrew, was enough to outscore Stamkos, Makar, Toews, Hagel and Weegar.  Stammer did point and Hagel missed an empty net, leaving Dallas in a big hole.  Andrew comes out with guns Gaudreau, Kreider, Strome and trocheck versus only Nugent-Hopkins.  This series could get ugly in a hurry if the Stars don't keep it close Wednesday.

West Division
vs
Much More Than McDavid

Without Point and Marchment GM Shawn is in trouble in even a bigger than expected way.  With a 3-1 lead GM Bryce sends out McDavid, Copp and Hyman versus no one to stretch the lead early.  For the Winter Hawks having their first four players in green, the writing is on the wall to the rest of the NHLP, there may be no stopping the powerful Portland team.  "McDavid is the icing on the cake" stated Muddy Capone, "But this team can win with Tampa or Colorado."  That fact leaves the entire rest of the NHLP walking a very thin line.  It doesn't appear an upset is in the making here for Seattle, so things are going to have to really go absolutely perfect for any other NHLP team to win at this point.  There is a long ways to go, but today's snap shot of things looks pretty damn good for Bryce at this point.  We know how the NHLP changes on a dime but right now things are all going the way of GM Bryce in Portland.

---

North Division
vs
You could argue everything has gone just about perfect so far for the two time winning franchises.  For GM Andrew his Blackhawks had 6 players play a game 7 and all 7 players moved on joining another "Hawks" team, Portland, with the only 7 player teams remaining.  Andrew is a 4 point favorite this round over GM Jr in Dallas, so every player might have been important if the Hawks are to win this round and maybe become the first ever NHLP team to win a third team Cup.  GM Jr narrowly escaped a late charge by GM Bryce, holding on to win a 35-34 first round battle and only losing the only player he was guaranteed to lose.  The Stars are vying to be the first team ever with three Cups, but round two won't be easy.  For Jr to overcome the CTR deficit longer series in Tampa-Florida where Jr holds a 11-6 edge and Colorado-St Louis with a predicted 12-3 edge will be musts.  The Calgary-Edmonton series slightly favors Andrew with this series decided on the 15-0 advantage the Blackhawks will get from the NY Rangers and Carolina series.  In that critical series Kreider, Strome and Trocheck face no opposition.  The series is calculated at 6.5 games, so there is a change a 5 or even 6 game series tightens this series.  Dallas was a CTR finalist pick as Chicago was not predicted to get out of round one.

---

South Division
vs
Both GM's Chad and Matt won battles in the first round with Toronto winning on the home team picked tie-breaker.  Both teams are down to 5 players each making this a tight CTR 2 point advantage for Chad's Leafs.  Neither team is going to get anywhere with man-games in this series with only the Rage with Domi and Lafreniere being uncontested.  Chad's slim advantage comes in Florida series and Calgary series 10-5 and 6-2 respectively.  These teams can compete with the second round stronger teams in the North and it will all come down to matchups, yet to early to analyze.
---

Atlantic Division
vs
What could have been for the reining NHLP Champions in New York.  GM Charlie lost his top four scoring players in game 7s, leaving not much hope to move on and compete.  The Barrie Island 1/2 Chance Stumblers should put GM Joel in the Conference Finals where with a Calgary advance just might have enough to go to the Finals and even win it all with Calgary.  If the Flames can advance Joel will be hoping for they meet the Avalanche next round which at worse case is a 13-9 underdog and best case a 9-8 favorite vs. GM Marcel's Montreal team.

---

East Division
vs

GM Andrew advanced his Hartford Whalers in a 7th game overtime when Gaudreau had to point or Hartford was out.  That massive series, 39-38 left Hamilton (Tyson) with presumably the highest scoring team ever in the first round to lose.  No team ever lost scoring 40 so 38 is likely the record.  Unlike had the Hitmen advanced, the Whalers are a serious underdog.  Montreal was a CTR Cup pick and with Kucherov still in, GM Marcel always has a hope.  It appears Montreal will face Barrie Island (Joel) next round.  After this round Marcel should have the best built Blues team remaining if both move on.  For Marcel Montreal could be unstoppable if the Blues win the next two rounds, likely giving GM Marcel a shot at his second Cup win.
---

vs
Pacific Division
It appears GM's Marcel and Andrew are going to split their second round matches with what should be blowouts each way.  The Kings clearly have the best Florida built team remaining but even the Panthers going all the way might not be enough for a Kings second NHLP Cup win.  Without Florida going all the way Andrew could still do it with the Rangers and while both should be enough to put the Kings in the Finals, one might not be enough.  Alaska is a 14 point underdog so this should be the end of the line for the Attack---

West Division
vs
The CTR has Portland (Bryce) a 5 point favorite with 16 uncontested points from the Edmonton-Calgary series.  Seattle (Shawn) gets that back 17-5 in the battle of the Sunshine State, so man games in those two series can change the outcome of this series and maybe the eventual NHLP Champion. The Storm appear to have the best Tampa Bay team left, but it is a razor thin call if that is fact.  Is Point even going to play for the Storm, maybe making this series a blowout without his predicted 5.  For GM Bryce he has the real shot of winning his first NHLP Championship, the second for Portland.  GM Bryce took a lot of heat for having points to give and hanging onto his Oilers, namely McDavid.  Was there a better option for a distance team available?  Yes there was.  Did Bryce make the right call in keeping McDavid?  Time will tell.  If the Oilers win and go to the Cup, there should be no realistic chance for anyone to stop the Winter Hawks.  Portland could even win if the Avs make it or even Tampa, with teams with players on those teams possibly out this round, namely Dallas (Jr).  The league loves the underdog Cinderella story and GM Bryce with his 7 man team and huge favorite to keep going is this years story so far.  Portland can have enough to win it all without McDavid based on what happens elsewhere this round.  However, if McDavid puts this team on his back and goes further, if it happens, the newest NHLP GM might be a first time Cup Champ to boot.
